  1. Nice vid, sharp anamorph lens too. What c-mount adapter did you use with this? And did you modify the c-mount lens as well?

     

    Thanks raf702. I have a Metabones adapter, and yes, the rear barrel of the lens is limed, because it was too large for the adapter to be fully screwed

    Yes I have just received the GH4 this morning :)

    1st test : why not put my 60’s baby Hypergonar anamorphic 1.75X lens in the 4K cinema mode ? :)
    Fast filming, run and gun documentary style, focusing improvisation

    Doing 4K is for me like in 2006 when I went from SD to HDV. A huge orgasm ! Viva GH4 ! :)

    on Qioptiq LINOS Mevis-C C-mount lens 35mm f1.6 (most of the shot were taken at f2)
    No diopter, no CC, variable Cokin ND filter
    EOSHD guide cineV preset settings

  3. So, I have an Iscorama and a collection of vintage lenses (including the DSO Flare Factory).  I've been shooting on the GH2, but would like to upgrade.  Of the latest crop of affordable cameras (GH4, BMCC, A7s) which would make the best pairing with my set up?  Thoughts?

  4. Here is a movie done with the SLR Magic Anamorphot 50, a 1.33X anamorphic lens.

    All the details are subtitled in the movie, here are the material :

    SLR Magic Anamorphot 50, 1.33X anamorphic lens
    1-On Sony A7 with Konica Hexanon 40mm f1.8 pancake lens
    2-On Olympus OM-D E-M5 with Nikon E Serie 50mm f1.8 pancake lens and Lumix 20mm pancake lens

    Some of the shots done with the focal reducer TurboLens, a cheaper version of the SpeedBooster
    Some of the shot done with SLR Magic achromatic diopters (0.33X and 1.3X) and Tokina 0.5X diopter
    ND variable filter
    No color correction

    Sounds like it would be great for faster Diopter changes. Few of my concerns (besides a hundred bucks for magnets) are possible vignetting? I know I get some vignetting when I stack diopters on my isco 36, full frame.  

     

    Anyone have any experiences with these?

     

    Yes me, it's working perfect ! I have also put it on variable ND, so I can put the diopter alone, the ND alone, or the diopter + the ND.

    It's enough strong to carry all this, even with my heavy achromatic diopters.

    A friend of mine gave me for few days the Zhong Yi Lens Turbo M43/Nikon, a cheaper cousin of the Speed Booster from Metabones :

  9. There's a combination of factors here, from the sensor to codec and how all the highlights are being handled.  They seem a touch more harsh at times, in certain scenarios here, than what I'm seeing on the GH2 + Driftwood patch through a more vintage Nikkor.  

     

    I'm liking how the Anamorphot is a bit quicker to flare, with sharper flares, compared to my Century Optics adapter.

     

    I'm going to have the pancake 40mm Konica F1.8 Hexanon. Apparently it is working good with the SLR anamorphot, more tests soon. 


  10. Im in a bad situation right now. I need to find myself a stills camera, as the C100 will maintain as my camera for shooting vids, but that axis stabi kills it for me. Thats just amazing. On the other hand RAW files from the A7 look amazing. Would that Olympus be cheaper I'd really think about forgettin sensor size and go with the crop. 

     

    Ive watched the first 5min and the Sony a7 looks a lot softer to me. Also the flares aint that good. 

    And I might say this cause I owe one, but that look just aint no Iscorama look. :)

     

    Seb, you have both cameras... what would be your recommendation? Should I go with the Olympus or the A7? 

     

    The 1st minute is OMD, then Sony A7 up to 4:35, then OMD then A7 coming back at 6:55....

    The choice is very difficult. Personally I prefer the A7, especially for it's stills, but the stabilization of the OMD is tremendous...

     

    Apparently the video mode of the next OM-D generation is better, you can read the post of EOSHD.

     

    I think the best camera isn't out now, maybe the upcoming 4K from Sony will have the stabilization ? Apparently the GH4 does not have it :p

  11. Ah a talented filmmaker! There's some great stuff in here and i love the warmth and feel of the piece (beyond just how it looks). I'm still not keen on the flare but I think that's always going to be a personal preference - for me it just doesn't have a place in something that's more a drama or documentary - unless it's there to represent something. I've got a Century that does me just fine so I'll stick with that for now - but the SLR Magic is a more interesting space to watch now. Does the LA7200 still offer the possibility of a wider taking lens - if it does then perhaps all of the lenses can sit together in one bit 1.33 happy family.

     

    Thanks Dave :) As far as I know the LA7200 goes from 17mm and the SLR 20mm... So the difference is not important.
