  5. Hey Seb,

You seem to have some issues with your telecine.

If you are doing it yourself and your target is 25p, then set your projector to 16.66 fps and record the screen using PAL 25fps interlaced. If your projector does not have precise speed control settings, vary the speed until the position where the flicker vanishes.

Then in post deinterlace and slow down to 24p if needed.

    Hope this helps

Thanks for the advice John. Here it's just a rough telecine, it will be professional done later, when we will have the budget :)

      PROJECT SUMMARY:

For 20 years (1993-2013), I got used to go with my girlfriends to New York, and set my love memories on film...
WOMANHATTAN is a film from my point of view as an obsessive director: the obsession of filming my girlfriends in New York, the obsession of magnifying them, the technological obsession of finding the camera shots that best reflected my feelings.
WOMANHATTAN is a trip back in time, before and after 9/11, where I take us to the heart of New York and its urban landscapes, my thoughts on the passing of time, on love and the possibility of being free one day from my obsessions, and living fully the present and my love life. To discover my world here is the teaser :

VERY SMOOTH FOCUS (repaired and oiled by a professional).
  9. I have a question about the flares at about 0:33 on your video... I noticed that in the right hand corner there is a straight, rainbow type, 45 degree angle flare. Do you see this to a greater degree when you shine a light directly in the lens? I'm wondering, because when I use any other taking lens on my Iscorama, other than the original, I get this straight 45 degree flare, if the light source is bright enough. If I'm using the original 50mm, I don't get this weird flare. I have some slight lens separation in my lens(but very little), so I thought this mite cause it, but I don't know. Anyone else have this issue?

I'm sorry I don't know, maybe a particularity of your lens

  10. It's nice to see your results with the lovely iscorama.  to me a wonderful tool.  the low light anamorphic king.  sharp enough at very fast apertures and no light loss.  When you finally pull the trigger on an iscorama I think you will love the flare factory modifeid helios44 I sent Andrew Reid (optimised to make iscorama a lot more rustic and lower contrast).

Thanks Richard, and yes I have to order one of your lens, but for the moment I save money because I'm going to shoot from next monday two weeks of Manhattan in anamorphic... :)

  11. that is cheating f4...
    try it at f1.4 or even 0.95 : )

regardless of what john barlow says a simple locked off tripod test with camera taking lens wide open shows the improvements. of doublet close up over single element.
reduced spot size on a doublet correcting light ray path giving more clarity to the image.
in fact i just tested a +1 kinoptik doublet it destroys the single element angenieux.
chester moore hall invented the doublet in 1740 the design has been copied ever since if it was not needed or if single element was so good then doublet designs would of died out long ago.
doublets are the high end route.
tiffen and schneider use single element window glass called white water not optical bk7 in the close up they make.
they rely on people stopping down to improve performance.

achromatics require higher end optical glass and quality spec and build.really
stopping a bad optic down will cure most problems opening wide or one stop down from wide open shows the power of a good achromatic doublet design.

    optical law transcends vimeo pictures

Thanks for your poetry :) Badfully I had the 0.4 five minutes and did not think of using it at fast aperture.

  12. I visit my brother, niece and sister in law, and I met in Toulouse Olivier, a anamorphic lenses collector. He lent me for this week end one of his Iscorama. It was the first and hope not the last time that I have this lens in my hand. It's working very well, sharp, and usable for closed shots without a diopter.
