As well as the add on wide angle and anamorphic lenses, it does have a decent virtual zoom with a good ergonomic operation using the thumbtack.
Its range is dependent on your resolution of course but for the purpose as a travel camera its pretty good.

It is a bit of mystery, especially with the option of the magnetic mount anamorphic lenses and ND filters.
Feels like there was much nicer stuff being made with the first one but you could argue that the GH cameras have followed a similar curve in absolute terms.

That was some display of Main Character Syndrome by Ronaldo last night though taking every single free kick and then the  penalty though.
It was very weak and potentially catastrophic from Martinez not to substitute him at half time of extra time after the penalty miss when he clearly had become an emotional wreck.
You could argue he got redemption in the end scoring one in the shootout but it was really horrible as a neutral watching him fall apart like that so God knows what impact it was having on his team mates.
The brilliance of Costa dug Martinez out of a big hole.
I wouldn't be starting Ronaldo in the next game as his body isn't responding to him any more.
The talismanic effect of having him in the team has been lost if he's seen to crumble like that and make it all about him.
France are not hitting any heights in this tournament so I think you have a reasonable chance of overcoming them but you can't do it with a passenger.

Obviously, England are being run by a manager that is so risk averse that here he is taking a bath so, the overhead kick aside, we are an insomniac's best friend and stinking the tournament out.

What should not surprise me in these boards is the fact people come here to comment the personal taste or choice of this or that shooter -- usually non-professional users (I mean the people publishing videos on YT, not exactly who addresses or writes here about it). This has little to no sense to me.
I'd understand it when aethetics is the topic. But sincerely, along these pages? When the reason to be here is the thread of this or that particular capture device?
The purpose is the discussion of the features and potentiality of a given tool, not the way one or another individual took it in or for this or that stated situation.

On this specific piece of technology:
    1) Is its sharpness outcome anything you'll be unable to overcome to begin with?
    2) Is its tiny sensor size and form factor a limitation of its own as far as IQ concerns?
    3) Is its temporal and spatial noise acceptable for the aim of its use, i.e., how it looks when exposed or/and how about its much desired low light performance too for people using it exclusively with available light?
    4) How compares with its predecessors and current competitors?
    5) What kind of integration is possible to extend with other add-ons, filter accessories, stabilization helpers, the case of a gimbal built-in here, how many other camera suppliers offer the same?? ; )

This is what matters in the end. All the rest is pure noise with apparently no fix to me ;- )

If you have good taste and know how to process the image in post, there are many trade-offs that can be made.
For example, 4K 10-bit 422 could be matched by 6K 8-bit 420 if the camera was used with the right ISO settings to generate enough noise in the file so that in post the downsample to 4K would re-create the intermediate values that are inaccessible by the 8-bit.
    Art does this with stippling.
Soon, AI will be able to resurrect your SD MiniDV tapes into 3D 8K 444 glory with only minimal error.  The ever-deepening naval gazing will create the ouroboros, assuming it hasn't already.

And as I was saying before I rudely interrupted myself, the A7RV was always lurking in the wings.
Fantastic stills camera with option of 60mp full frame super-detailed files but ability to shoot 26mp crop at a slightly higher res than 24mp FF cameras. That's flexibility!
AF is just best in class.
Rear screen is superb in both resolution and how it rotates and tilts etc.
All 3 Tamron lenses are native so all niggles re. performance, reliability and corrections etc removed.
It's tiny for what it is and so fits with my mantra of 'smaller, lighter, faster'.
My only criticism is it takes a stoopid cfexpress type A card, but hey ho, I got a 500GB for €270 so can't really complain...
    So in summary, happy days.
The proof of the pudding as they say is in the eating and that will be the rest of this season, but as far as I am concerned, I have now removed every issue I previously had to juggle or deal with, whether it be cameras, or lenses, or audio, or lighting or tripod heads sagging or gimbals having an electronic jerking fit mid shoot, all whilst sweating profusely on a 35+ degree Celcius French Summers day. Not that we have head any of those this year. Yet...
To conclude, anyone that is interested, feel free too ask anything.

    Hello 🤗
For those that are interested, finally, I reached 'peak camera' for my needs.
When I say 'peak camera' I really mean 'peak set up' which includes; camera bodies, lenses, audio gear, tripods, etc, ie, 'everything' I need to do my job.
My job is a multi-day coverage, destination wedding, hybrid shooter and has been for the last 24 years, the most recent 22 full-time and the hybrid part for the last 14.
It's been a real battle these last 14 years as a one man band to get that balance of kit that allows for 3 factors:
    A. Creativity, not stifled by...
    B. operating issues which could be anything from too many units, to too big & heavy, through ergonomics to...well anything that is more operational and logistical.
    C. Repeatable consistency at or above a certain level.
I haven't tried every combo known to man because that would be impossible, but far too many to mention, but as above, 100% confident I have now reached 'peak set up'.
As the title suggest, that is a combo of principally Lumix and Sony for bodies, Lumix, Sigma and Tamron for lenses, Rode for audio, Smallrig for cages/grips and tripods.
    Specifically:
My previous set up to date was:
    1 static video + 1 roaming/semi-static video + 2 photo
    It's now
    2 static video + 1 roaming video + 1 photo
So it's still a 4 unit set up, but with two considerable exceptions:
    A. Instead of 1 static and 3 cameras on my person, I now only ever have 2 on me, which is a big deal.
    B. Both of those units on me are smaller and lighter than they previously were, which adds even further in significance because smaller & lighter = faster, more creative and less fatigue.
I did want to go to a 3 unit set up and it's possible, but it's just that one step too complicated and financially starts getting very silly, so just a no.
I'm sticking with L Mount for video. For my needs, whether static or roaming handheld with IBIS and no gimbal, it just works for me. The output is very high quality and the log footage is very easy to work with and the file sizes not stupidly large.
A used pair of S5ii's are doing the business here. One I already had and has been my workhorse since it came out last year and the other just arrived with a pair of used (most of my gear I buy used if and when I can) battery grips as during longer ceremonies and speeches, a single battery gets me concerned whereas two I have no concerns over.
A brand spanking new S9 is inbound next month. Until then, the S1H will solider on until it arrives but then sadly, has to go as it will be surplus to requirement. Sadly, because it's the best camera I have ever owned (to date) for video and stills. OK, it does not have the AF of the S5ii, but otherwise kicks its arse everywhere. But gathering dust serves no purpose and it cannot do what the S9 can do at a fraction of the size and weight so...
And for stills? Well that's the Sony, obviously. A7RV. It was always an option lurking in the wings which is why even though I went back to Nikon with the Zf and Z6ii earlier this year purely for stills, I did so with adapted E Mount Tamron glass so that I could go either direction, remain with Nikon or go Sony, any time I felt.
That time is now and Sony won.
Z9? Too big and heavy and not 100% convinced by the e only shutter. Probably would have been fine, but it's a MASSIVE LUMP.
Z8? Nah. I'd rather have a Z9 as there are too many compromises with the Z8 IMO, but see above.
The Zf I have? Nope. Ergonomic pig to use.
Z6ii? Nope, too slow. It's like wading through mud operating that thing, unlike the Zf which is fast, but ergonomically shite.
Z6iii? I thought it was going to be but I am having a few niggling issues with the adapted E Mount Tamron lenses. They work well enough most of the time, but not ALL the time. They do require more processing work as they are not native.
Posted in error so with only a brief opportunity to edit, will have to continue in another post below!

It was like you were reading my mind as I was reading.
The other thing that people often forget is that film is a creative medium.  I know it's heresy and I'll flame myself after posting this, but it matters because if you're zooming while filming then your choice of compositions and even choices in how you move the camera etc will be made on the basis of what you see in the frame.
People forget that the tech influences the operator, and the operator controls the camera and also influences the crew and even the cast (if they're grumpy or happy enough), and those things are far more relevant to the actual end product than any technical whatever that might exist as a counter-argument.

Yes, Sigma Fp-L and Fuji X-H2
They have the very high resolution sensors for it to work at MFT crop
So you can put your 2x crop lenses on one of the above cameras and maintain 4K detail
I had that adapter made for MFT lenses to Fuji... It is a very small niche though, maybe not commercially worthwhile.
Even the X-H1 did a nice MFT crop in 4K

Clear Image Zoom is a crop at native resolution, so on a Sony camera 2x clear image zoom at 4K looks like 4K
That's the same with the FP-L which has a 60 megapixel sensor, so enough resolution to do 4K at Super 16mm crop factors.
It's very detailed and not a digital zoom or blow-up.
In stills mode only I think?

Emanuel reacted to MrSMW in Clear Image Zoom versus everything else
Sigma FP-L has a ‘zoom’ function.
It just crops on as they all do though?
Leica Q3 has ‘crop modes’ as do quite a few other FF sensor cameras.
I have my new (used) A7RV set up to shoot 3 different options:
C1 for compressed full 61mp raw
    C2 for 26mp medium raw
C3 APSC crop which is also 26mp, but tighter framing than the full frame 26mp medium raw of C2.
All working with the Tamron 28-75 gives me actual working ranges of 28-75 and approx 40-110.
I have think there is a clear zoom option but not looked at it.

A lot of manufacturers have some sort of variation of it but it’s the implementation of it that is key for me at least.
The Variable Scan Mapping of the LS300 was the one that really caught the imagination because you could map it to the zoom rocker so it was really intuitive. You can actually use a LANC controller for it instead and map focus to the rocker switch for a great solo solution.
Incidentally, you could do this with Clear Image Zoom on the Sonys such as A6500, A7Rii etc with cheap compact zoom rockers that plugged into the remote port too but I’m not sure whether the modern ones allow it?
For the Z8/Z9 and now Z6iii Nikon have their Hi-Res Zoom function and have the hardware MC-N10 grip to provide a tactile control.

There is always a lot of “durr but you can crop in post dude” reaction to this sort of functionality and, whilst this is true, there are plenty of applications where virtual zoom makes a lot more sense.
For something like the LS300, if you are shooting live or handing media off for as live then obviously it gives you the way to get a tighter shot in camera that wouldn’t be an option otherwise.
To paraphrase Nigel Tufnel, if you’ve got a 24-70 on the camera and you need the shot to be tighter …

The other scenario is not having to shoot in a “wasteful” resolution just to give you the option of cropping later.
With something like the 8K Z8/Z9 you are getting up to 2x hi res zoom and still be shooting in 4K whereas the Z6iii is a bit more limited in that it is only 1.2x whilst still being 4K but that might be all you need for that extra push over the cliff.
As I say, it’s horses for courses and will be of minimal use to a lot of people but it definitely has its applications where it’s an absolute boon.
It also forces you to make a decision about framing whilst shooting, which is anathema to the “I simply MUST have maximum post shooting noodling capability” crowd of procrastinators.
    Fucking cowards 😉

Yes, for gyro to work properly you need to be at 90 or 45 degree shutter and then add back the motion blur in post (Resolve can do it well). Another advantage of the gyro is that it reduces rolling-shutter artificats. Main drawback is that there's a crop.
If IBIS or gyro are not satisfactory, there's always steadicam, glidecam, or gimbal. I chose glidecam because I don't like having yet another device that requires batteries, and balancing on a glidecam is dead simple. But it's bigger/bulkier than a folding gimbal, and of course you can't adjust focus yourself since both hands need to be used on the glidecam; you'd need a wireless focus puller to work with you if you want to adjust focus. Not an issue for me as I only use wide lenses on the glidecam for maximum depth of field and try to maintain a constant distance from my subject.

Considering he was using 180deg shutter angle it’s actually not that bad.
Good thing about the gyro stabilisation like this in the BM and the Sony version cameras is that, unlike IBIS, it is non-destructive to the image so you can tweak it later.
That’s not only good for the now but it also means if someone does come up with a better method then you can re-process the files and rescue or improve shots.
With IBIS, those warps are there for good.

What a memorable show! The Waterboys version 2024 is a terrific must. Their performance on stage is one of the best gigs I've ever seen in my life... To hear this Scottish-Irish band playing hits such as (let's only mention a couple!) 'AND A BANG ON THE EAR' or 'THE PAN WITHIN' live is simply thrilling... literally. One of the best bands ever. Mike Scott is a star of the history of folk rock in the body of a man. The older the best, as I had opportunity to personally let him know he is like Port wine, today : )

BTW I have a chance to offer to this community... To those who will be interested to locally shoot their concerts, we can launch a footage archive of their performances in the coming years. PM me as you wish on this purpose of mine launched here now. I think these boards should be more mutual cooperation of this gang's gigs than has rarely been TBH :- )

And I will tell you the only beef against the usual mirrorless toys ; ) Bulky and weight. Light glass without cumbersome adapters is a bless... ; ) Osmo Pocket : D saved us a lot of times! Incredible tool!
All the rest has no challenge. Monitor, menus and BRAW have no competitor and are what a cinema camera should be.
