  1. Hahaha, I DID say CM1, above. But the codec and processing has issues on that one. And controls have been limited. But, as a Smartphone, it is almost garbage. Unfortunately (the Samsung's have superb usability, and the screen and interface is pretty good). The 4k Video is limited to 15fps for some extremely curious reason. I just checked all the Pics From it, again, and they seem very impressive for a Smartphone. Thanks so much Mattias. I may pick up one or two, if I could lay my hands on them.
  2. Your Wish has come true Andrew. I guess, it's gr8, since the Sony A6300 already does 6k scaled down (though not 6k photos, or 6k video). I am guessing its the Same Sensor that does duty on the GX8. I wonder if they have improved on the dynamic range and video codec. Somehow this 2k, 4k, 5k, 6k race is irritating more than anything else. I watch stuff on a 4k monitor, and it looks so fake. Films looks like animation.
  3. I have been without a camera for a while, and I am been busy with many things, none even remotely related to photography, videos or filmmaking. I do miss it a little, but, I know it can wait. Though, I do need a camera now, I suddenly realized that form factor of most cameras is too large to stuff into a pocket, and not too portable either, unless you wanna carry a separate bag with it. And, I hate carrying around that has to be lunged around. I like tiny cameras that can be hidden in pockets. For the longest Apple have been the Gold Standard in Marketing, and iPhones have sold themselves as the Only phone one should possess (regardless of its video or image quality). I suddenly realized, that I miss having a phone that shoots Photo of the quality comparable with mid range point and shoot (not the 1" Sensor Cameras). It would be so easy to just stuff two phones into jeans' pockets and walk around (I use two phones anyway, so its not an issue). And if I wanna do filmmaking, I could just hire a camera, or get a cameraman, with his own camera, among host of other options. The Samsung S7 is out, and it has superb autofocus, and great low light for a smartphone. If the image quality is even 25% better than the S6, it will be Class Leading (again), and with the right apps, one can shoot pretty slick movies, on it. The S6 already has very impressive photo quality, extremely impressive flash, stellar video focus capability, with continuous subject tracking, and great 4k video. I wonder if anyone else here feels that Smartphone Makers should use better Sensors (Higher Res and Better Low Light meaning atleast upto 1600 or have an f1.4 lens, which could be stopped down with ND Filters, and atleast 16 MP large sensor resolution pics where each pixel isn't so easily visible) like the Panasonic CM1 (but with better video. Sony just introduced a new sensor that does duty on the Sony Rx100 iv and Rx10 ii. I wish some Smartphone would use that sensor. The Samsung Sensor seems extremely promising, yet 12MP seems quite inadequate. What do you guys think? Is there anyone else who like travelling super light, and wish a Smartphone would replace a Mid-Range Point and Shoot? Maybe for $1000, but with a Huge Sensor?
  4. Could you give a breakdown of ticket price and film revenues. As in % cost breakdown. Am just curious.
  5. I spoke about it Long ago. Also mentioned the much better Log profile on it than both the Panasonic and Sony cameras. And that the new firmware that came out, addressed most of the issues the camera had before.
  6. Most publishers are the greedy ones. Authors don't usually have issues. call the author.
  7. Actually I guess we're both wrong. He did say a 35mm sensor ("The Micro Four Thirds mount physically fits a Super 35mm sensor. This has been proven.") But retaining the M4/3rds mount.
  8. GoPro needsto seriously correct prices. Right now it's overpriced (for the 4k). Wait until February 21st and then take a call.
  9. Online streaming does make people wanna buy DVDs/VOD if the video and sound quality could be better, and also watch it in theatres, if that's an option. Incidentally most of the Oscar nominated films have still not made it to Theatres in India. I sympathise with the online streaming guys (since the same films aren't available in any format, for purchase either).
  10. Whoa !!! What's wrong with Everyone on EOSHD??? Andrew didn't say a super 35mm sensor. Only a 35mm size crop (with a M4/3) lens setup. Sensor will be the 1.86 crop like on the GH2, not the smaller 2.0 Crop like on the GH4. There could be a Panasonic built-in equivalent of the Metabones lens booster. Whatever is needed basically for a wider frame.
  11. Wait for Samsung S7. You will be pleasantly surprised. The S6 already does 4k Far Better than any iPhone (or anyone else). Plus it takes superb stills for a Smartphone. But wait for the S7. I don't want to say more.
  12. True. Yeah, my Bad. Also, Andrew, the Sony made 20Mp M4/3 does 27fps at full res. So, I guess, with the right processing power, it would be easy to do full pixel readouts. At 20 MP. 6k It's IMX269 http://www.sony.net/Products/SC-HP/IS/sensor2/products/index.html
  13. Stricter Screening at Film Festivals. I have seen copies made by judges (they have strange watermarks still left on them). Piracy happens IMHO because: 1. There is not enough strict checking of viewers (mobile phones, along with all other devices should be banned during screenings. People can deposit them and take them back after the screenings). 2. Watermaking should be made compulsory for all Judging Copies (not for the public screenings at festivals). 3. Films are over-priced. People want an excuse to break the law. Over-charging by distributors and studios gives them an excuse. That is why, one feels more sympathetic towards the smaller, far poorer Indie Filmmakers, than for multi-billion dollar studios. Piracy is a crime against both, but the Indie Film Makers are worse hit (they may make a single or a handful films in their lifetime). Films should be priced Much Less. Like 1/2 or 1/4th the Price. People would watch a good film 2-10 times, rather than just once. And rather, than watch a bad film even once. But if you pay $2-3 for a film ticket, instead of $8-9, it would pinch you far less. I feel, once would watch a good film priced at $2-3 times, and that could help separate the bad from the good (films). 4. Film Copyright should have a shelf-life. Making them outside Public Domain for Perpetuity is Monetary terrorism. Creators die long before the companies have stopped milking the projects. I want to add, that very often it is Difficult to get a film DVD or something else (now that iTunes is there, I am guessing it isn't really an issue) to watch every film one wants. I know a director who asked one of the studios for a DVD of a film they made in the 70s (or was it 60s), which only hit theaters, and there were no VHS or DVD versions of the same. But he is influential, and most of us have to content oursleves with iTunes an dother channels, if they stack certain films. I guess.
  14. Would you buy this camera? Panasonic GH5 for $1799, November 2016 6K video and 24MP stills Super 35mm mode for 6K video without pixel binning 2x crop Micro Four Thirds mode for DCI 4K and Ultra HD Compatible with all Micro Four Thirds lenses 200Mbit/s H.264 codec and V-LOG 2.0 Forthcoming Micro Four Thirds Premium / Plus lenses for the oversized sensor Full frame look with Metabones Speed Booster 4K RAW to Odyssey 7Q+ (please!!) interesting. You've said a lot of great things in the Article. I read some article (or comment) of Nino Leitner (or was it someone else?) where he said that his friend and he discussed that Panasonic should make an in-built equivalent of the Speed Booster, itself into Panasonic Bodies, for the added benefits (wider field of view and more light on the sensor). Panasonic could collaborate with the Metabones SpeedBooster guys. I am sure nobody minds a few more millions for collaborating Panasonic has not been building its own sensor (like almost everyone else), and depends on what Sony churns out. That's why, DJI also uses the GH4 sensor, as does Olympus and whoever else. Sony released 2 new sensors for the M4/3 format recently, one was a 16MP and another 20MP. Not too sure of their specs, since the full data sheet was not released. So, I guess there aren't too many M4/3 sensors options out there. 6k = 19+MP at 24fps or more. I am not sure a DSLR sized (smaller actually) body would be able to handle that much workload, without grossly overheating. Maybe even having other issues. Also, the file sizes would be noticeably larger (than 4k), especially at 4-2-2 10-bit. The Codec on the GH lines should be 10-bit internal, on a smaller version of the Yagh body (maybe 1/2rd the Size with CF Fast Cards). 4k RAW to Odyssey 7Q would be great. Panasonic have advantages over the the other regarding not overheating, much longer battery life (especially wrt mirrorless pack), and smaller lenses. Internal 5-axis stabilization would be excellent. Even better photos, with more resolution (I hope Sony has hidden a 24MP M4/3 sensor for Panasonic somewhere, though it seems unlikely, for now). Not sure how much better low light can go on the Sony M4/3 sensors.
  15. Extremely long and a little cryptic too. But, interesting. A few of my friends make some good decent from Google AdSense on their sites. Youtube channels are doing pretty well, and I guess, if people are able to advertise well, and More Importantly to keep the budget low, there is no reason why they can't make money from them. I feel, people should explore revenues beyond AdSense or even FB and try getting in-branding partners and paid advertisers for spots too. These ADs could be embedded at the start, or somewhere else. I think Webseries will be huge in less than 5 years. In most places around the world.
  16. I agree. Except for Google Cardboard, IMHO All other VR Equipment will Fail. It's like 3D Cinema. It has Very Limited Appeal. Except with limited screenspace on devices like Google Glass (that Do Not block out outside light and other stuff).

Have you used a camera with a touchscreen. Until I used one, I didn't realise the ease and necessity of having one, either. Almost like a Laptop with touchscreen. It's a completely different experience. And on cameras the focus point is So Much more precise. And much faster.
  18. And Now GoPro is completely discounting it's lower end range. If that's True, GoPro is already dead. It's top end range is in the $399 - 499 range. That's exorbitant for an action camera especially: 1. With such Small sensors. In the $500 range yiu can get a host of great point and shoot and smaller semi pro cameras with lense (during discounts and used ones). 2. Such average lenses. 3. No built-in stabilisation. Not even digital. 4. A host of way too many competitors. Especially the newer, smaller Chinese and Crowdfunded ones. TBO honest, I never thought Sony, Panasonic or anyone else could dethrone GoPro from the action cam market. But thw Xiaomis andCrowd Funded ones may actually do it, if they aren't already. Really sad strategy team in GoPro. http://m.dpreview.com/news/6451740776/gopro-to-discontinue-three-cameras-and-exit-entry-level-market

I am surprised companies equate the touchscreen with lower end products. Also, Canon has the speed control om focus on it's autofocus cameras. I wish touch screens also has the focus speed controls. They could effectively help smaller Indie Crews focus far more easily and perceptively.
  20. There are far more innovative GoPro options out there. The GoPro expanded too much as a company in terms of size, and very little in terms of innovation and competitive pricing. Despite so many resources and so much experience at hand. There is absolutely no reason that they cannot make much cheaper and better action cams. At the end of the day, the sole reason GoPro came into being, was because they had super affordable cams, that could withstand some element of punishment. They now make far more expensive cameras (especially compared to the Kickstarter and IndieGoGo Funded and Chinese Made ones), that offer very little above the older ones. As a matter of fact a friend of mine is part of a startup that is bringing out an action cam in the form factor of a watch. Basically GoPro needs to get back to having a Lean team, and having salaries related to profits (I am guessing the Top guys take a few millions in salaries now). Otherwise it will be another Kodak.
  21. The LX100 actually has pretty shallow depth of field opened up at 24mm.
  22. I stared at the Image for a little while, and Voila !!! I feel the FS200 has arrived !!! With Vlog. Which is superb, since it had some issues with sharpness and codec. I wish the lens were Faster though, like an f2.8 (or f2.0) Zoom, since M4/3rd have issues with low light anyway. And a servo zoom. The M4/3rd range only lacks that IMHO.
  23. The Advertisement reads "Mobile cinema acquisition is about to change… forever. " "Mobile Cinema Acquisition". I wonder what it means?
