  1. Matt says they are seriously considering 10 bit 4-2-2 Internal. That would be Huge. And maybe moving to Faster Cards too.
  2. BMPCC records on SD Cards. This on CFast (correct me if I am wrong). That itself is a huge deciding factor. Plus processing power can make a Huge Difference. The Panasonic GX85 and GX7 have the same sensor, but vastly different processing power, and hence the 4k.
  3. It does 4k @ 60p. It does higher frames rates upto 120p (though NOT at Full Res).
  4. Like I said before, I am also a lawyer, among other things. I went to sleep somewhere in between reading the starting clauses. hehehe. I would wait for the product to hit the shelves. But, it does seem promising. I would wait for someone famous to take the plunge, and then see the results and take a call. Actually, their clauses are a parallel to public platform funding (IndieGogo, Kickstarter etc). America has a very curious system of civil suits. Corporations are fined in millions, and even in billions, in damages. Though, I feel, a lot of those corporations genuinely deserve it. Maybe that is why they have this agreement (from many clauses indicating therein).
  5. I knew this was coming. The only question was when. Also, I wonder if they solved the issue with the interlaced and progressive feed, that exists with the Full HD Video Assist.
  6. I don't know why nobody has thought or asked this: 1. If it is modular in the manner that it is, how study is it after connecting it the way it is. I hope it doesn't suffer from misalignment, breakage etc. 2. I wonder how fast the modular connection port transfer is. Since it doesn't have a common motherboard, I am guessing the reliability of ports is far more important here. I am guessing that the basic camera (that is sold) will have most functions, and the modules will add more, or improve existing features. Someone mentioned that it won't work without the extra sound module. I am not sure that may be the case. It says, "AUDIO ELEMENT Your camera "expands its audio capabilities" when you add the Audio Element. Features include 2 mic inputs with phantom power, balanced analog output, and 1/8” stereo headphone jack for monitoring." Sound quality Improves (due to the preamps), and monitoring is available with the sound module.
  7. 13 Stops of Dynamic Range at 120fps is actually pretty cool. Also, the whole Modular Components bits is actually path breaking. I think its a superb idea, and more than anything else, I am dying to know how well it is implemented. A lot of people on Facebook were suspicious of the pricing. But, remember the BMPCC was $499 once. If these guys mass purchased similar sensors (maybe with higher frame rates, though), they can easily justify the price. Also, the components keep adding to the price. I love what I see. I am dying to get one to use.

  9. They are obviously a company. I didn't have time to go through with the registrations of Patents filed, but this did turn up. If I had a few hours, I could have found out all the Patents they registered.   10. I have been saying this for the longest. While dual pixel is superb, the speed and accuracy of focus, may have nothing to do with dual focus. Why? Well because most high-end cameras (and many mid-range ones too), can easily manage with the speed and accuracy of focus, considering the number of focus points on the sensor. As a matter of fact, if Panasonic allows better focus transition algoriths in its cameras, it will do a very good job of focus pulling with a smartphone/ phablet/ tablet. Also, the speed in photography is something that lenses and cameras work with, together. With better transitional software, I am sure a lot of cameras can pull focus far better.
  11. I always feel that there is a Huge Gap between the Marketing and Designs' Team at Panasonic. Not sure if this feature is available on other (non-Panasonic) Cameras, but the Panasonic GX80/ 85/ 7ii seem to have upto 7 frame AE Bracketing. That seems pretty amazing. "AE bracket3, 5, 7 frames in 1/3, 2/3 or 1 EV Step, Max. ±3 EV, single/burst Aperture Bracket3, 5 or all positions in 1 EV step".   13. The GX8 has a more recent sensor. I am guessing the issue with processing may not be with the sensor at all. It may be with the available processing power as well as not stepping on to the market of the higher end cameras. If that is the case, then the GH5 should concentrate on something like 4k ProRes or 10-bit AVCHD or something on those lines, instead pf moving to 6k. Though 6k would be excellent for post photo and other photography needs. Also low light can seriously improve on the Panasonics/ M4/3rds. And this again I feel may not be an issue with sensor alone. Also, from the look of things, the GH5 may be moving more into the $2000 range. Which would, frankly be justifiable.
  14. I agree. I think we should make an online petition for having a Log Profile (Cineline D and V) on the GX85.
  15. This whole Craft Camera thing outlines some very interesting facts, namely: 1. That there is STILL a huge market for newcomers, especially in the $1000 price range (give or take $500), especially for cameras that have RAW or ProRes, and reasonably high dynamic range (12+ stops). 2. If they have Global Shutter, then that's like a Huge advantage. 3. Like I said on some other thread, the BlackMagic line opened up the professional market for others, and at this price point, the market is still pretty much waiting to be flooded with more cameras. 4. People can learn from the mistakes of everyone else, and stick to the basics, namely, a universal mount size (M4/3 or canon). 5. Have decent sound on board. It doesn't have to be excellent. 6. The form factor isn't that necessary, as long as it doesn't weigh a ton, and it is made for having accessories. 7. Early adopters and crowdfunding platforms really help. 8. Letting Film-making Blogs test it, also helps in a huge way, especially with regard to publicity. 9. There appear to be so many codecs that people can pick up, literally off the shelf, so I wonder what stops them from picking up ProRes or Cineform (some versions are free, apparently, so I guessing that should be explored), apart from the various versions of RAW. Craft's Vague Website, with absolutely no information, only makes things more suspicious, I guess I have always wondered how expensive M4/3 and APS-C sized sensors cost, as well as cameras, to mass produce.
  16. Saw the video. You're right. The focus is strange. Almost causes fatigue to the eyes.
  17. I bought the Shure for $255. Here, it is either unavailable, or in the $450+ price range. Like I said, if "Dual Mono", and a "very wide pickup pattern" is not an issue with you, you will love the preamps, and the ability to record a backup track (you can save it at 10-15dB lower than the one going into the camera, where cameras have headphone inputs). I hope that helps. I didn't realize (/know) that Martin Wallgren had such easy access to Panasonic. Then, maybe, we should All contact him/ troll him, on Facebook and Twitter, and ask him to take it up with Panasonic. I also suspect that the HDMI out is a dud, possibly even worse than the one on the Panasonic G7 I wonder if we should start Another Thread, for the purpose of letting Panasonic know, What they Should add to the GX80/ GX85/ GX7 ii, in terms of Firmware.
  18. Andrew, there is some Glitch wrt to Uploading Pics from a Smartphone. I had to use a laptop, just to be able to Upload this Pic. Anyway, I don't know why people continue to create confusion, when everything is outlined so clearly. Please read and watch everything, and stop misinterpreting things. And, thanks ntblowz

  20. I find the Post Focus feature on the Panasonic cameras far more sensible. And the post focus thing is not the stand alone feature.

  22. I dunno why, but I find Lytro to be a very shady company. I find they over-advertise and then produce mediocre products.
  23. I have the Shure LensHopper VP83f (what a bloody long name !!!). It has great audio quality, but it isn't a shotgun mic. My friend and I joke that it has a mysterious pickup pattern, that nobody has been able to solve yet (or that it is a Rode Video Mic X, that actually records in dual mono). The mic on the VP83f is extremely sensitive, and the preamps are very good. I guess, if someone can do sound separation in post, it can be used for recording rainforest kind of documentaries, considering how sensitive the mic is. Considering that most people who use the Cinelike D, and who push the setting to the minimum (-5), claim that the video starts falling apart in grading, I find that pushing the settings to minimum, in the 'Natural' Profile may be a better option. I am curious, though, to know where else the GX85 has cut corners. It has multi-exposure for photos (the G7 has 4-5, unline the 2 on other cameras). The GX85 also has a lot of them. I feel, that there is poor coodination between the Marketing Team and Technical Team of Panasonic, and that is one of the reasons may features are not highlighted or advertised.
