I really hope you guys are right and all these technical explanations that ensure great results on paper end up making the G6 a true continuation of such great image quality, only improved.

Updated the article, there's a mirroring option which allows the LCD to stay on whilst outputting to a recorder so you don't actually need a monitor.

You know an LCD screen is not the same as looking through a viewfinder...
Also, they've been using measuring tape to focus for over 100 years of film, maybe more than their eyes.  :)

You should be working with an array if you're 4K (or serious 2K or 1080P).  Individual drive sizes aren't really an issue as much as throughput (the real elephant in the room is back up and archival).  Individual drives aren't going to support much more than compressed formats.  This isn't something you're going to effectively build internally and never has been.  Internal arrays of a couple drives aren't really meant for, or ideal, for this.

So this begs the question, should you even be going 4K?  Odds are the realistic answer is "no" and so you're creating problems for yourself that already have solutions for those that actually need it, which is almost nobody except big event, commercial, theatrical.  Regardless of what the churn in consumerism tells you you need.

hint: maybe one in ten, if that, blockbusters you've ever seen has been finished at anything but 2K.  Sony and the rest are lying to you.

I understand YouTube compression and those videos' softness has nothing to do with it (though I deeply wish it did). That can only come from either a bad encoding on the uploader's side or indeed the camera's true capabilities. Watch any good GH2 video uploaded to YouTube and you'll see there's no such softness in them, in spite of YouTube's compression. Here's one, for instance:

Still, I'm rooting for this camera to be what all of us are hoping.

I guess this particular lens would cover the S16 frame because it's designed to project over a 1" sensor which is a little larger. I was looking at the exact same lens as well...

Sigma EX 10-20mm F/4.0-5.6 is worth looking at I used this on the BMCC camera and it works well at the 2.3 crop of that camera so at 3x it will work well too
    - it does have some distortion at the edges
but it is a very useful zoom range great outside in daylight  with nds
you dont mind that its not a fast lens then
with a canon to micro 4/3 adaptor you can just use it wide open

"I think I'm going to pick up a C300 for $16,000 instead of the $4,000 4k BMC," said no one ever. Cannot believe a 4 grand camera outclassed Canon's ENTIRE cinema line. What a joke. Time to step it up Canon. You now actually have to try hard.

I think it would totally change the thousands of DSLR short films you see on vimeo these days. Instead of being shot wide open, with shallow depth of field and most of the important subjects out of focus, they would be shot wide open, with shallow depth of field, most subjects out of focus and badly framed and feature loads of smooth flying shots.

    Just joking here! Kind of...
