In a way it is just the same as it has always been - you do a shoot and until you get the data off the card it is at risk of failure.  Whether it takes up 1mb or 1gb it is still either backed up or it isn't.

I've been using the SmallHD DP7 and loving it, but it's pretty heavy. Using it on top of my GH4 with a hot shoe swivel head is clunky. It falls down all of the time. Comes loose. You name it. I searched the market for anything that would attach both sides of the monitor allowing for swivel, and a sturdy grip. Found nothing. I decided to build it myself out of parts found on eBay, and B&H.
Here are the links to parts I used:

This could also be useful for the A7S and Shogun combo. I'll admit that this isn't ideal if you need to mount a microphone, but if you're going handheld for video only it's sturdy as hell.

I don't think its unethical. Just look at Software. Companies will make LITE versions, or PRO versions. Obviously there are features disabled in LITE for a lower price. You could say the same about Cameras, and hardware.

Yup.  It's freaking ridiculous too.  This is the main reason I put up with the other video limitations of the OLY cameras.  The 5 axis feature trumps pixel peeping...if you're actually using the camera to shoot stuff other than a test chart.

Let us know if you find a better solution for mounting the Shogun. I use a hotshoe at the moment with my DP7 and it's always moving b/c of the weight.

I shot this music video for The Fold using the GH3, and a couple of car exterior shots with the Blackmagic Pocket Camera.

Lenses: Panasonic 12-35 2.8, Rokinon 35 & 85. Black Pro Mist 1/4 filter on most shots.

I used an Ice Light for a couple of shots where I had no access to power, and it totally screwed me. Check out the motel scene, and  you will notice rolling bands. I later figured out if the intesity of the light wasnt at 100 then it created the bands.
For the most part I was totally pleased with the GH3, especially with the 60p.

So, I started with the 12-35 on the GH3 thinking it's the perfect all around lens. It sort of is. Very sharp. Light. Compared to the Sigma lenses and Zeiss lenses it looks very sterile though. I started using the Sigma 18-35 when I could use a tripod and fell in love. When I needed to go handheld I just used a monopod. Now I use the Sigma almost 75% of the time.

Shooting LOG with the BMCC has been so much easier after I bought a DP7 monitor that supports LUTS. Being able to see scopes and exposure of the frame with a LUT added has been a lifesaver.

To expand on it, let's take 24 frames or one second at film rate.

With film you have 24 full images, motion blur is kept in each image, not smeared netween them.

With ML 5D raw, Alexa Pro Res, Red Raw, Blackmagic cameras etc, you have 24 distinct images, individually compressed either losslessly or mildly lossily. Motion blur is kept within each image.

With AVCHD and other Long GOP CODECs, the I-frame image is divided into pools of pixels for analysis across time. only some frames are whole, the I frames, the rest refer the different pixel pools to the I frame and usually to a frame in the middle of the group too. In order to remove data the codec only moves what it has to. Your one second may have only two complete images, the rest are created as best can be from the other frames, with huge changes causing pixellation and blocking due to so little data headroom.

On top of this, the red-channel resolution is quartered, and the blue channel halved in 4:2:0, so the spatial resolution for movement is cut down, as well as the temporal resolution.

In short, the plastic movement you get from many implementations of such long GOP CODECs reflects the methods use in compression.

Motion blur is also smudged and blurred by chroma sub-sampling (4:2:0:) and by interframe compression.

Not yet. Seems to have been a shot in the dark. Accidently published a beta version too soon?

A histogram would be very good.

As others have pointed out, instead of changing the design of the menu, they should have rearranged the order, like putting WB and ISO on top. Can't be hard to change this ...
