  1. I love the Rayzr 7. I mostly use that with the Aputure 300d and 4 Quasar Science bulbs to light almost anything, with bleached muslin and ultra bounces.
  2. I'm interested in seeing what happens with the flexible OLED screens.
  3. I've thoroughly enjoyed using the GH5s with Kowa Prominar 40mm. Lightweight and tons of character.
  4. You things have gone south when you have to explain your jokes, and make a video on why they're funny. ?
  5. It’s not the end of the world, and James Gunn will be fine, as well as the cast. They’re wealthy enough to never have to work again. However, I feel audiences suffer with this shit. It’s going to get to the point where financers are not going to risk putting money into a potential ticking time bomb, or studios will water down everything to appeal (and not offend) to EVERYONE.
  6. This was total bullshit. EDIT: James Gunn's firing was total bullshit.
  7. SmallHD 501, SmallHD 501, or SmallHD 501. Plus the swivel pan/tilt mount.
  8. FS5ii is an interesting camera. The new Venice color science looks really good in an HDR or REC709 container. Pair it with an Atomos recorder and get ProRes Raw. I'm planning on trying it out with an EF-E SpeedBooster and some full frame primes.
  9. 2x with open gate 4:3 is wonderful. It's like going from Super 35 to full frame.
  10. DC Camera already has the Atlas Orion anamorphics to rent for $150/day. https://www.dc-camera.com/product/lenses/anamorphic/atlas-orion-anamorphic/atlas-orion-anamorphic/
  11. Ron Sim is a good dude. I have 3 Leica R’s that he modded for me, and he’s always been on top of quality control. I haven’t tried the NDs but I’m guessing if he puts his name on it they’re top quality.
  12. One analogy I thought about: If you're a live music audio engineer, it would be like a client asking if you're recording in stereo. Stereo is almost a given, but it isn't the gold standard of audio quality.
  13. I thought about this too. Although it's almost impossible to hear the difference in 96 and 48. 4K does improve image quality if you're looking for pure detail at close range. I'm going to shoot 4K anyway, but I'm trying to create a quick comparison when people are under the assumption that image quality is quantified ONLY in MP's. HD is good. 4K is amazing. 8K is best! I tell them about dynamic range, sensor size, grain structure, but it's such a long boring conversation.
  14. I've been trying to explain to musicians that keep coming at me with "4K camera" is required, or "I know a friend who has a 4K drone we could use" of how tiny 4K actually plays into an overall image. It's definitely a marketing strategy that's taken ahold of consumers. What would be a good analogy in music terms. Not just consumer end, but producing, recording, buying instruments....?
  15. If the Ursa was full frame I would for sure. Not too interested in more K’s.
  16. I used Metabones PL to MFT. Where do you live? I can give you some good references for rental houses that ship individual anamorphics. It’s pretty much the same situation in Chicago where they want you to rent the set.
  17. Tripod mostly. I used handheld on a sandbag out of a car window for the following shot. Thanks man. Actually I wasn't implying a transition of time. I wanted to make it hyper-dubious. She just shows up out of nowhere with no warning!
  18. Aerials were actually stock footage. Not exactly sure which camera was used.
  19. I rented a Master Anamorphic 50mm for another project on the Helium, but walked over to Chinatown in Chicago with a couple of friends to shoot this little short with the GH5s. All at 3200 ISO.
  20. I recently shot a very short film in Chinatown (Chicago). I decided to use the GH5s for discreet purposes. All natural lighting. Zeiss 50mm Master Anamorphic. 3200 ISO VLog L. https://imgur.com/a/FTy8OtI
  21. Yes. I just shot on the Helium 8k and it is definitely working overtime on 8K anamorphic. Looks great at lower ISOs though. Here is a frame w/ the Master Anamorphic 50mm. There's no noticeable heat but the fan is working hard.
  22. If you have $99 to spare I highly suggest watching Ron Howard's Masterclass. He has a few dedicated sections on blocking. It's invaluable if you ask me.
