Out of pure curiosity I had a look at this forum's posts (I'm completely satisfied with the 16:9 standard.. sorry), and the huge lumps of glass reminded me of something I had seen in my own home. We live in an old cinema, and in the projector room I dug out these two anamorphs (jpg hopefully attached?). The pinkish one is american and has some sort of mirror system, the other is german, seems exceptionally well made, and is marked Cinemascope on the rear side. Both are mounted in heavy cast iron brackets.

I'll be interested to hear if they have a market value, and would consider selling them if someone would have pleasure using them...

Bruno, you prove my point... talking about what you would like, that you don't want to endorse their business model etc... Then simply don't buy their camera!! They choose what to make, use their business model and I'm pretty sure they knew they had to cut a lot of corners to make the product that cheap... It is their choice. Bringing the most important factor, the video quality, down to a very affordable level is quite an achievement in itself, and should be applauded. It is quite an improvement to the similarly priced DSLRs. All the extras would have cost more for sure...

Good I'm not the only one to react... I'm amazed to see all the moaning, demanding and complaining. WHY didn't they do this, do that, and no global shutter, and why didn't they just make a $3000 Alexa but with raw that doesn't generate huge files, 240 fps in raw.... NOW!

I saw a nice video some weeks ago (but unfortunately can't find it again) with a guy strolling around London with an unrigged BMCC and a light tripod, a big battery in his pocket which he plugged into the camera to recharge it from time to time... no nonsense, no moaning and complaining... just getting some nice footage and enjoying shooting... It actually is possible to shoot with the BMCC!

I try to see things for what they are, not for what they aren't. The BMC has a lot to offer for the price.

Don't forget there is an aspect of good ergonomics with this camera... no need for a rig, a very full set of features and good sound department makes it very pleasurable to work with... and it can in the right hands produce stuff like this:

I'd also like to point out that by saying you can't fit people in is a ludicrous statement You should be using lenses designed for the format your shooting on and scale your thinking and lenses down accordingly. As for sensor and out of focus background what are we talking about here the difference between ONE stop?

Calibrating projectors is not a new issue either... When we bought our old cinema/house where we live, I had a talk with the aging projectionist who used to run the theater (now unfortunately deceased)... he told me that for moody, romantic movies he used to change to older, less sharp projector lenses and defocus the mirror behind the arc light to get a little vignetting, just to set the mood... For crispness he would dig out the Möller lenses, get the light as bright and focused as possible ... but as he said "if we get a badly copied movie, nothing helps"... The quality was best in summer, when his wife would wash and bleach the cotton screen...

    @markm
nobody even talked about camera color filter array before sony start to use it as a marketing tool...
i dont remember that anybody ask that question when arri alexa , red epic or any other camera announced...
why? because its not important ...when u make raw camera u use wide gamut dye (not that for rec 709) ...
and more bits camera have, color gamut is wider ...
so u basically ask do i get four wheels when i buy a car ... :)
so dont ask question if dont know what are your asking ..
    its ignorant...
ps:and when sony state that they going to use f65 camera color filter on f55 what they really say is that they decide to cripple f5 with wrong one ....

where that fascination with color filter array come from ?
its probably classic Bayer pattern as in arri alexa , red epic or 99% other cmos cameras ...

just look at the image and if u like colors great if u dont buy another camera ....
