@Liszon that plugin looks like it works really well. It looks like Tito created a free version of that plugin:

Yes, that method is good too but you can only use it in After Effects. I don't trust Dynamic Link so I prefer Premiere, others probably want Resolve, the Distortion Unit does both.

Sage, what's your take on the GH5s' colour science, how much it differs from the GH5? Are you planning to do an Alexa-matched profile for that too?

The limitation of the BMPCC Speed Booster remains that it is optically designed for a 1"/s16 image circle (which why it can have the extreme 0.58x factor) but won't be usable on any bigger sensor. The image circle of the GH5s is considerably larger than s16.

Nah, what happened is the BMPCC has an extra glass in front of the sensor so they had a different optical formula when designing the dedicated SB for it. I had a regular 0.71x SB as well and when paired with the Pocket I had a very uneven sharpness across the frame. Probably it's the same low performance what Andrew is seeing on the GH5S since the 0.58x SB wasn't made for it.

I'm not a fan of DNG.  Huge messy files that Adobe software STILL cannot handle properly.  Give me ProRes or something like what is in the GH5 and I'm happy.

I know, Adobe's support is shite..

For me DNG is about flexibility. I either use Resolve to do a quick white balance and output 12bit DNxHD or get Raw4Pro out of the tool shed and make CineformRaw then quick adjustments in Firstlight metadata before CC but I don't blame anybody who prefers to keep things a bit quicker.

  5. None of these cameras are "end game". There's always room for improvement. Moaning isn't necessarily bad, it's like a very well publicised bug hunt, firmware fixes came out thanks to that. Being reasonable is important though. Don't be impossible. "Babies" are more like impulse buyers, they don't know what they actually get into. "Oh this needs rigging, oh there's noise if I underexpose" etc. Zero research.

  6. I think we are lucky if we get 10bit 120p in FHD/2K, but if that's multi aspect I would have no reason to complain. 4K/60p/10bit internally would be badass but I doubt that, too much too soon after the original GH5. Owners would go nuts.

That advanced HDR sounds like a lot more reasonable and "prosumer friendly". They need to sell those HDR TVs somehow, showing off nature docs with over saturated colours and interpolated magic motion on the shopfloor won't cut it now.. they have to give you toys to create content with.

I am the only one not getting crazy with IBIS?

I used to do a lot of run and gun news gathering on HDV and even though the Sony HVR-Z1 had some sort of an electric/optical stabilization I always had to "Mercallize" the footie in post to make it look more static. Then I had a Pentax K5 for photography, that had a basic video mode where the 3 axis stabi was also available and I was amazed how good that can look without any post tweaking. If I would still do the same videography the GH5 IBIS would be a very handy time saver. Also I remember other editors worked horribly with the warp stabilizer, it would have been a relief to know what I hand over will need no butchering.
