1. Have you tried it? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/953/gh2-patch-vault-most-popular-patches-in-one-place Why don't you try it first?
2. Weird. But it only happens on your PC computers? Perhaps your Premiere install is messed up.  Not sure what else it could be since everyone (even andrew I think) uses Premiere pro these days.
3. both programs can edit the footage download the demos http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/download/trials don't forget to try Adobe Premiere also
4. I know what you mean, but detail of what?  detail with what lens?  detail for how long?  detail in what lighting conditions?  IMO Seaquake is probably the best for detail using Leica M lenses (I rent from lensrentals.com) under controlled lighting conditions for short periods of time.  Quantum V7 is close however and Driftwood is tweaking it as we speak to make it one of the best "all around" patches available. Have you tried Seaquake or some of Andrews hacks?
5. the uploaded vimeo sample is a lot better: WHY - Nikon D4 Release Video Enjoy!
6. The problem with Andrew going through with such a test is that there are THOUSANDS of variables.  Should he test motion?  Should he test dynamic range?  Should he test for shadow detail or highlight detail?  Should he use a macro lens to test for resolution?  (and then he would have to test all the macro lenses available since they all behave differently with different hacks) Should he test on different memory cards for spanning and clip length?  Should he test for color depth and color accuracy?  Should he test for skin tone by hiring a half dozen actors / actresses?  Get my point?  Andrew could spend MONTHS prepping and shooting a test only to have it 100% worthless once a new patch or tweak to existing patch comes out. For example, look at what happened to the 2011 Zacuto DSLR / Big Sensor video shootout.  The test is less than six months old and is nearly completely worthless.  Both the Red and Alexa have had huge upgrades to firmware boosting and changing picture quality.  The GH2 wasn't included in the test (but obviously hacked ones should have).  The Canon DSLRS now get a slight boost in picture quality from the Magic Lantern hacks.  And new cameras - Red Scarlet and Canon C300 and Nikon D4 - are out and were not included in the test. The best way to see what hacks you like is simple. Find out what you shoot the most.  Load the hacks onto SD memory cards.  Loading them onto your GH2 between takes.  Go out and shoot those subjects - come home and look at the footage.  That way you are using YOUR subjects, your lighting, your memory cards, your camera, and your lenses.
7. Just seems like a PC problem. Follow all these steps and make sure you have a strong quad core with at least 8 gigs of ram and a cuda enabled video card. http://tiny.cc/mhbyy Hope it helps.
8. Simco thanks for posting that sample - it is soft and waxy (youtube perhaps...but then again I have seen sharper GH2 samples on youtube) - but interesting none the less. As for the video modes, everything I read leads me to believe that HDMI out is really the only way to get a decent file from this camera.  I think many of us are spoiled with hacked GH2 units - GOP1, in camera recording, swivel LCD, the ability to use any lens.  Even these newer 6k DSLRs won't have many of these essential features.
9. Here is the final specs for HDMI out: " HDMI lets you view footage on an external monitor or record uncompressed 8-bit 4.2.2 footage directly to an external recording device. Even take 2MP stills simultaneously while filming. Attach the ME-1 Stereo Microphone and record high fidelity audio with minimal camera noise. On-screen audio level indicators and a headphone jack help you monitor and adjust audio in 20 incremental steps. " Again potential is there....but the camera is also 6,000 dollars so.....hmmmm. Is this enough or is the D4 the "dabbler of many, master of none."
10. Final specs are out. 24mb/s video but uncompressed out.  Hmmm.  Potential is there, but an external recorder (good one) isn't cheap and if that is required for the best quality then we are at half the price of a Red Scarlet package. So I don't think the D4 will win over any video fans imo.  Bummer. What am I missing here?  Would there be software to tether the D4 to a laptop for uncompressed out?  I love Nikon, someone? anyone?
11. This is where I bought mine. http://www.ownuser.com.tw/e_paypal_panasonic.html Wonder where Andrew got his?
12. They all have trials.  Download and try for yourself.  While I love Lightroom, my neighbor loves Capture One Pro 6, and his friends all love DXO.  Image quality is very similar between all of them (though some cameras - Nikon for example - do better with their own software - Capture NX). Gotta start downloading and trying. If you have Photoshop CS5.5 you already have RAW conversion software (same image quality as Lightroom).  And renting Photoshop monthly is cheap. Cheers.
13. Andrews patches are a good place to start as well: http://www.eoshd.com/gh2-patch-vault#c2 Cheers.

Lens Whacking

Just downloaded it and watched it - some REALLY good shots in that clip! Thanks for sharing!  Bravo!  More please!
15. Might be different.  Someone with experience with the new Magic Lantern (Andrew the obvious expert) hacks would have to chime in because I don't know how intensive the new boosted bit rates are on that Canon. Cheers!
16. Don't laugh but this lens is fun (i have used it) and gets great reviews (for the price). http://tiny.cc/ng0ql Cheers!
17. Ah the Voigtlander 25mm.  Your blog is the reason I bought one and will buy a second since my neighbor won't give it back (bhphoto out of stock atm - adorama has them however but I have bh gift card).  Using the 20mm F1.7 Panny now but it just isn't the same.  Miss how close I could focus with the Voigtlander and its bokeh. Of all your videos I always enjoy your footage shot with the Voigtlander 25mm the most.  This video of your is stunning! Funny that when BHphoto first started selling the lens it was $899.  Now they sell out at $1199.  *sigh* http://youtu.be/9FoxmO5OETM
18. 1920 x 1080 at 60p (without insane compression) produces a ton of heat.  Its the one thing manufactures are struggling to overcome with large sensor cameras atm.  Notice how the Sony a77 turns off in body IS to reduce heat - and my friends NEX5n struggles in the Vegas heat (can't record more than a few minutes) when shooting 60p. Even the $60,000 Arri Alexa (my personal fav camera for skin tones and DR) took a while to get high frame rate patches / firmware. Notice what happens to the Red Scarlet when the frame rate goes up: http://i41.tinypic.com/35b5ekw.png The other thing to remember about new Nikon DSLRs shooting video (specs are rumors right now but we might know more Friday) is that there is little doubt that Sony makes the sensors - thus Nikon are somewhat limited to what they are capable of despite their Expeed and on chip converter tweaks. I do think that Adobe Time Warp and Twixtor updates (even the new Sony Vegas does a good job) are getting better and better at creating slow motion from low fps files (though nothing does beat 60 or 120 or higher fps settings). No doubt that 2012 will be a great year for video DSLRs - but I have a feeling (as I diid last year) that it will be up to hackers to get the best out of cameras like the GH3, Canon or Nikon DSLRs. Shame the Sony 5n is so difficult to hack - that camera has TONS of potential if the bitrate was boosted - though again heat is a major issue with the Sony 5n. Cheers and happy new year!
19. Any red owners know if Epic has improved low light with firmware upgrades since its release.  I keep reading how even the Scarlet might have advantages (not speed or resolution however).
20. Agree with B3 Guy - run Seaquake Though imo the lighting in that sample (all scenes) was so poor (not trying to be mean) that the camera and video hack won't make much difference.  Invest (rent perhaps) some Kino Flo Diva lights or Rosco Litpads for your shoot.  When you underexpose skin tones (like in that sample) the results are mushy with poor color tone.  Another cheap way to light rooms like that is to use some Paper Lanterns with CFLs hung around the rooms.  Will make a big difference. http://www.paperlanternstore.com/ Have fun!
21. If you want the best quality video (using highest Driftwood settings) the 95mb/s Sandisk cards are the only way to go. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/824139-REG/SanDisk_SDSDXPA_016G_A75_Extreme_Pro_16_GB.html Even though the GH2 doesn't officially support the UHS-1 spec, these Sandisk cards use higher speed chips that work well with what Driftwood and Vitaliy are pumping out. The thread linked to above is VERY old and while some of the 30-45mb/s cards will work with "some" patches, they won't do well when stressed. Don't cheap out on your cards - you will regret it.  No point in saving $20 or so here or there when the card might be useless if a patch comes out that requires something faster.  Reselling cards on ebay won't get much of your investment back. Cheers!
22. Best $500ish tripod / head video combo I have tried are: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/822105-REG/Sachtler_1002_Ace_M_Fluid_Head.html or http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/827212-REG/Manfrotto_MVH502_546BK_Mvh502A_Head_546_Tripod_Padded.html Othman - the Manfrotto 502 bridge head (new) is around $200 and has great drag control.  Perfect for DSLRs or if you want to support heavier items try the larger 504 or 509.  Stay away from older Manfrotto heads (as philip bloom will support) and stick with the newer bridge type. Best of luck!
