  2.   No uncompressed 10bit 4K over the GH4's micro-HDMI port, you need the 10bit HD-SDI box for that.
  3.   Frame is 16:9 regardless. There's no 3:2 or 4:3 anamorphic mode on the GH4 unfortunately! Still to much of a niche for the majors to consider, or even Blackmagic whose sensors are 4:3 native aspect too. Should be an easy thing to implement, it's a shame they haven't done it yet especially with it being such a popular pro shooting format. Hawk anyone? Maybe Vantage and Panavision need to have a word in Panasonic's ear rather than leaving it to me?

  6. The 180 degree shutter is way too low for a lot of handheld camera work.   Also you can get away with really high shutter speeds like 1/2000 for exposure without NDs if the scene is relatively slow moving and locked down on a tripod.   The negative effects of high shutter speeds are a bit misunderstood, it's not always a bad thing to ignore the rule of thumb.

  9. 2 months isn't really a long time. Makes no sense either, to go announcing pricing before you know what the competition is up to. If I were Panasonic I'd wait until NAB to announce the price and immediate availability.   Immediate availability... something Blackmagic could try one day?
  10.   Exactly why a Video EOS range is needed. Still a hybrid of video and stills, with EF lenses and large sensor... but something 7D users cannot get their knickers in a twist about.

I would like to see how Nikon's 1970's SLR technology fairs in an era where pros are shooting stills on 6K video cameras and consumers are shooting DSLR quality stills on smartphones.   Time for Nikon and the rest to get with the times.   I tried the Fuji X T-1 yesterday. Total claptrap video mode. Moire, aliasing, no manual control, basically THREE video related options on the whole camera. No 25p, no 24p. Just NTSC frame rates and a load of banding from a 1/250 shutter speed. No AF while shooting even! They seem chronically allergic to improvement when it comes to their video mode, no matter how high end the camera. Also I still remember the dirty looks a Fuji product manager gave me at Photokina 2012 when I spoke to him about video, in complete contrast to the more polite product manager at Leica.   It is as if they see us as a real pain in their bottom.
  12.   With the D800, senior Nikon people conducted a foray into the video market and asked many pros about what camera they need.   Did someone somewhere along the line deem it all not worth the effort?

How are people reaching the conclusion that the AX100's image is better than the GH4?   First mistake is to judge it from YouTube!   Second mistake is to judge it from marketing videos!   Third mistake is to compare from different shoots! With different amounts of talent behind the camera!   Final mistake is to forget about the lens! Will the AX100 look the same as a GH4 with a PL adapter and Cooke cinema lenses? NO! Indeed will the AX100 at F2.8 or F4 look like the GH4 with a Voigtlander 25mm F0.95 attached? That lens on the AX100 is sterile, no life.   Also I'm expecting the GH4 to be way ahead of the AX100 in low light. 16MP on a larger 2.0x sensor vs 20MP on a 2.7x crop one. Maximum aperture on the AX100 is F2.8, max aperture on the GH4 is F0.90 with Speed Booster.   The AX100 is a camcorder and it will look like a camcorder, but in 4K. Like the same sensor in the RX10 and RX100 yes it can do nice images and I am not writing it off, but got to compare like to like. It is not an interchangeable lens cinema camera and you will not be getting a Super 35mm look from it with that zoom lens.

  16. I decided to get my hands on a Nikon D4S at a local store in Berlin, to see if the much hyped 'new image processor' gives a real improvement in video quality. Nikon have made a lot of marketing noises about this 'HD-SLR' and video. It's a camera which according to their management "started out as a small update but became much bigger". Hmm. This isn't a comprehensive review of the D4S, rather it seeks to answer one simple question that Nikon themselves so far have been dodging. Has video got better on it? Read the full article here
  17. I do agree something like this is needed at EOSHD as well. I love to talk about ideas and get inspiration from people for shoots.   21. Sensitive times! Mention Russia and *bang* your forum turns into personal-view.com! Just for the record, I was not being in the slightest bit negative about Russia in my anecdote. It was meant to be funny. Without Russian forces we could not have won WWII. They were entitled to help themselves to as much German technology as they could find in 1945. A shame relations between the West and East have been so diabolical since.
  22.   That's 5D2 raw with the Mosaic Engineering AA filter. Not bad hey? Volker has a great eye.   Haven't compared the BMPC 4K to much yet. It's tough to compare a 4K camera to a 1080p one. They are different. Like comparing a 50mm lens to a 25mm lens :)
