  1. There's no 4K HDMI output on the 1D C unfortunately!! Capped at 1080p.
  2. The catchily named "LG 31MU97-B" is in fact not a submarine but a 10bit IPS 4K DCI display with 99.5" Adobe RGB colour gamut. Is this a better option than the 5K iMac display? I think it could be... Read the full article
  3. That's exactly what I noticed at Photokina as well. All the actual customers are at Blackmagic. All the suits were over at Canon.
  4. Yes it's functional. EOSHD is more about the artistic / cinematic side where a workflow is a labour of love that takes months and a shoot is Kubrick like with 100 takes until the magic is captured. I have little-to-no interest in the functional side. I have my shot getters... FZ1000 for example. Don't need the XC10. That's just my opinion though. Your post Eduardo is pretty bang on in describing the other side of the coin. EOSHD as a blog is my opinion, it's only my perspective and others who are looking for the same tool. The XC10 is a bit of a fob-off by Canon because they are aiming at enthusiasts not just journalists and implying enthusiasts will love it... ahem... most won't.
  5. "EOSHD posts about it and suddenly everyone knows" Not true! Was never on the blog. A forum user started a thread. I kept it open and replied. Didn't want to censor it. I am sick of it now and so is nearly everyone else. Thanks for locking the thread Rich. You're a talented guy Ed... but please for the love of god... can we have the old Ed back shooting those amazing NY videos.
  6. That's genuinely impressive. Let's see how it performs in the real-world but looks good. How DO Blackmagic do the prices they do!?
  7. Really, amateur garage? WTF? Did you even watch the video in the article? Baffled by the negativity on this thread.
  8. Has everyone had their say now? I'd like to move on from this and lock the thread. It's depressing.
  9. That shot is spellbinding. It has a 1940's technicolor look to it. Almost unreal. If you are going to push colour this much in post then it just has to be raw. Full frame helps a lot here too, with the separation of the foreground subjects even though there's a lot packed into the shot, it's quite wide. I think it's time for me to dust off my 5D Mark II again for raw (5D 3 is going to be sold soon so can't use it) and see if the 1D C's log can do the same fascinating 'extreme' colour grades, without falling apart. If this shot looks rubbish to you, it's time to get a proper monitor that can do colour right.
  10. That's exactly why I think the Canon 1D C will likely be the last 4K DSLR from Canon.
  11. Guys!! The camera is basically built and working. I've seen the footage and the finished sensor boards. He is just ramping up to mass production now. It exists, it's not one of those Kickstarter head in the clouds things.
  12. True!! Would be very boring. At least for us. Not if you have $1m production budget to spend on cameras
  13. INSANE price. 3900 euros... wow. Why aren't they valued more? I don't get it. One of THE best images under Red and Alexa.
  14. Impressive. Wonder why not more have been talking about it.
  15.   There are some truly remarkable upgrade options for backers of the fps1000 project on Kickstarter, including 4K Super 35mm and also an ultra-sensitive Micro Four Thirds CMOS. The original fps1000 Platinum with Micro Four Thirds mount which I backed was £899 and is now due to ship next month! Read the full article
  16. If Jimmy does not buy that 1D C at £2500 I think he should do his friend a favour and put him in touch with a few people on this forum... Only fair
  17. Of course it's a vague source, do you really think they want their personal info online?
  18. Jimmy, just fucking buy it. If you don't I will!!!
  19. Good point there... pro stills and enthusiast stills photographers want to take stills from 4K video and Canon doesn't have that option on their biggest lines - 7D and 5D.
  20. I received an email from a NAB show visitor today who had spoken off the record to Canon and was told the company believes a 4K 5D Mark IV would completely overshadow the recently released C100 Mark II and so wouldn't happen, but that Canon LOG would likely go into the camera to allow shot-matching with the XC10. So to segment specs based on price, Canon is allegedly sticking to 1080p on future DSLRs. The exception is the 4K XC10 which isn't a competitor to the C100 Mark II or C300 Mark II as it features a tiny 1" sensor and fixed camcorder-style zoom lens by comparison. Read the full article
  21. I understand why this topic creates so much anger, Ed. If for example god forbid someone close to me would have been a victim, I'd have strong feelings about it and would want to campaign. Imagine if our mums or sisters would have been beaten. We'd want to do something about it. And if we perceived a criminal in our midst in the DSLR community we'd want to bring about justice. We can't. We don't have the facts. We don't have the remit. We don't have the due legal process. We only have social media and Facebook and some allegations against someone who many consider a friend. So until those allegations are proven by law or dismissed by law, campaigning in the filmmaking community isn't going to wash. It is just going to lose you many friends and supporters and get everyone down. PS - my mum's advice was the same... and she is the biggest feminist I know!! :)
  22. Dynamic range in the acting or in the camera?! I think Gale did a good job with it. The rest, especially the audio is not at the same level... but not exactly unexpected for such a quick shoot promo video. There are a lot of uncomfortable pauses in dialogue, as if the director and actors hadn't had enough time to get into the material.
