  2. OK so not officially banned as such, but make it near impossible to be competitive in the US. I suspect that although Tesla seem to be everywhere in the UK at the moment (when I was there recently) and increasing in France, companies such as Xiaomi are going to begin to supplant them soon as they are considerably cheaper. I imagine that will hurt Tesla financially and the US economy and be another example of how these trade tariffs are going to backfire. But pure speculation on my part. I don’t claim to be an economist.
  3. Would it be worth quoting Genesis 1:3 as this would solve the high ISO need… (with apologies)
  4. I’m actually thinking of in lowlight staying in Vlog and trying to keep my ISO at 2500 as much as I can. VLOG seems to have really solid under exposure latitude and AF seems to work at 4/5 stops under so instead of shooting at 12,800 ISO I could stay at 2500 ISO and raise exposure in post. The idea is that then PDAF stays enabled and gives me usable autofocus.
  5. Formatting is being super weird right now ignore post
  6. It's not a guess. Trump's kid is a major investor in a US-based drone manufacturer. If they actually cared about security, they would have performed the audit that the law required (and that DJI was demanding that they do) instead of refusing to perform it.
  7. There is a 100% tariff on electric vehicles from China, so BYD is not sold in the US. EVs from Europe have a 25% tariff (based on what I could find out). Tesla is being given relatively free reign. I don't think this will actually help Tesla in the long run as it allows them to operate (in the US market) without really being competitive (on the world market). Tariffs can be useful to help some industries grow but Tesla kind of started the EV boom and they should have had enough time to develop their production so that they can compete on the world market without subsidies or tariffs.
  8. Have they banned Chinese car imports? Surely that is a far bigger industry and threatens home grown products like Tesla? Their car company BYD makes more cars than Tesla now and at much cheaper prices…
  9. Some first impressions of the G9II; finally starting to shoot with it but will have my first very demanding shoot this weekend. I did some filming at a worship conference early this week. Image is thick and grades well. Lowlight is clean up to 3200 ISO and gets very noisy very fast. So far I shot on the super efficient mp4 4k 72mbps. When really pushing ISO at 6400 and 12,800 image seems to soften. This might not happen once I try the all-i codecs that have substantially higher bitrates. One thing I noticed, this camera has hybrid PDAF and Contrast-detect AF. At high ISOs the PDAF seems to turn off or become severely reduced...i start to get autofocus pulsing and it is not as responsive. It is not HORRIBLE and is still likely better than a gh5, but its not the snappy reliable PDAF that this camera normally operates at. I need to do more extensive testing, btu it seems up to around ISO 2500 or 3200 you can expect good AF performance, but seems to worsen from there. I will be shooting a big concert-style christian event this weekened and the venue has lots of contrasty DMX lighting which looks beautiful but is def a lower light scenereo. I am toying with shooting in CineD V2 in lowlight. What seems to happen is when I shoot in a flat 709 PP, I can lower my ISO and get a comparable exposure. I know that LOG needs a higher ISO in lowlight bc its capturing a much wider dynamic range...and once you grade LOG if its exposed well the noise differences vanish. But with CINEd V2 i can lower my ISO probably 1 to 1 1/2 stops and get a good exposure. Im thinking in terms of how the sensor behaves, it would allow me to more frequently keep the ISO at below 3200 which in tern means keeping good autofocus performance since it seems to again worsen above 3200 ISO. I am also thinking that since the picture profile will be more contrasty, if i need to crank my ISO ever the autofocus would be better because it is analyzing a more contrasty image. I think it will still grade well; it is still going to be 10 bit and i suppose the extra V-LOG DR is not terribly necessary in low light. Plus, the codec is still 10 bit so colors should manage well; i would run the footage through the same node tree i used for Nikon Z6 Flat 8 bit, which basically is modified CSTs in/out of Davinci Wide gamut with modifications to artificlaly smooth highlight rolloff.

  11. He will no doubt do some chicanery that feathers his own nest. Some sort of bogus licensing where DJI have to pay for the use of one of the raft of Chinese held patents that his daughter mysteriously got granted there during his first term. Of course, vanity will also dictate that they have to change the name from DJI to DJT for which they will also have to pay a licensing fee.
  12. This is something I don't see people mentioning enough. That era, right before the gen2 S series cameras, they were nailing color science in lumix bodies. I'm keeping my eye on used prices, sensor streaking issues n all.
  13. I'm considering changing my GH5 to a G9II after testing the S1II and finding that the image is still nasty and digital looking. I've not had extensive testing yet as an A camera, I can potentially get a loaner for a weekend but just out of curiosity, how are you all finding the battery life and overheating (if any) for long takes in C4K?
  14. I don't understand how the US expects to solve potential security problems caused by these products if they allow them to be operated as before. My guess is that there is a longer-yerm perspective and they want to hinder DJI and other manufacturers' sales in order to allow American companies to take the market and a soft transition would mean the customers can fly their drones until they crash them or wear them out, and then replace with new US products. My guess though is that the US companies will never make competitive products for the consumer market and the government policy can change as soon as they realize that. It should be simple enough to verify that the code on the device does not transmit data to China without the user's permission and DJI could easily host any flight log analysis within the US rather than send it overseas. This is about something other than security IMO.
  15. i'm not sure what the government could do to shut them down, but DJI's app uses/needs GPS and I could see them threatening to fine/sanction DJI if they don't geofence out non-approved drones. But at this point, I don't think there are any existing DJI products that aren't approved.
  16. Very witty. If WW III starts, photographers with drones can then make films about it, so drones may be very useful. I would imagine the operation of unapproved drones can be shut down in the US territory based on GPS data, so IMO it would be pretty risky to invest in equipment that is not approved.
  17. Just get them delivered to greenland and wait a couple of months ?

    Nikon Zr is coming

What comes to this R3D NE trim not working in REDCINE-X PRO at the moment I wrote a support ticket to RED, to which they kindly replied in two days with this: ”Unfortunately, the R3D Trim export option in REDCINE-X PRO 65.0.20 is not compatible with R3D NE files. The error message ”Invalid source clip” is expected behavior when working with .R3D files originating from the Nikon ZR. As a current workaround, you will need to transcode the footage to another format such as .mov or another preferred wrapper if you want to create a new clip of a specific length.” The good news is, this problem is forwarded to RED’s Software Team for consideration. They also said: ”Please note that while we value all requests, we cannot guarantee your request will be implemented. For updates on the progress of a request, please refer to the Firmware Release Notes as they become available.” So it seems Resolve may be our fastest hope to be able to save trimmed R3D NE clips from ZR, as currently it can already export R3D NE as R3D NE without trims.
  21. Digital zoom is definitely an underrated feature of these higher resolution cameras. On my GH5 I used the 2x punch-in on my 17.5mm F0.95 to get 35mm and 70mm FOVs, and on my GX85 I used it with the 14mm F2.5 pancake lens to get 31mm and 62mm FOVs in a pocketable form-factor. The crop function on the GH7 is different and a bit more restrictive. You get continuous zooming, but only to the point where the resolution you've chosen is at/near 1:1 crop into the sensor. So, if you've got the 14mm lens on there and you're shooting in C4K, you enable the feature and it pops up a box on the screen saying "14mm" and you can zoom in more and more by pushing or holding a button and it goes from 14 - 15 -16 - 17mm, but it won't let you go further. If you're in 1080p mode then it goes from 14mm to 38mm. Conveniently, if you disable the mode then it goes back to 14mm but if you re-enable it then it goes back to whatever zoom you were at previously, so it's easy to set a zoom level you like and then jump in and out of that FOV. My testing didn't indicate any IQ issues with it, in 24p mode anyway, so I think it's probably downscaling from a full sensor read-out. Not only is it really good for getting more FOVs from primes, but it's also great in extending the long end of your zooms too.
  22. Also the crop zoom function is so cool. Turns my little DJI 15mm 1.7 into a 30-40mm FF equiv. Just wish I could map the crop zoom to the lenses focus wheel when in af
  23. The IBIS is so good that I’ve found that with e-stabilization low which barely crops in, if you have a really good heel toe walk the ibis can rival e-stab on high. It’s that good.
  24. I have this camera since its release in late 2023. The G9II is lightweight, has better IBIS and video details rendering (in 5,7K/Open Gate only) than the S5II, S1II and S1RII (with non raw modes) and lenses like the small 20mm f1.7 II are really fun to use with this camera. I'm not tempted by the GH7 because the 5,7K/Open Gate mode of the G9II has very nice detail rendering, so I don't need the Prores Raw of the GH7. But to be honest, I think the best image out of the box comes from the GH6, colors are the best I've seen on a Panasonic camera. The GH6 with the 25-50mm is something else, even my S1RII doesn't look as good. For now the cameras I use the most are : The GH6 with the 25-50mm (insane rendering) and the 25mm f1.2 (pretty nice and soft look at f1.2 even if the colors are a bit muted). The G9II with the 20mm f1.7, the PL 12-60mm and 100-400mm. The S1II with the 35mm f1.2 DG II (only in Prores Raw). The S1RII with the 50mm and 24-70mm S Pro. The Z6III with the 50mm f1.2S/35mm f1.2S and sometimes the Batis 135mm f2.8 and 35mm GM (only in N-Raw).
  25. 2021? More than a decade later. Well, too late for me then... :- )
