  4. That said, if a new one comes out, my YouTube feed will definitely let me know - and there's not a lot of interesting conversation to be had around a new action cameras. "So this one is a bit better than the last one and still has an obscenely wide angle lens? Cool. Cool cool cool." (That and since I already have a couple of 1" edition Insta360 One R's (upgraded to the RS brain), it's also really unlikely that I'll be in the market for a new action cam any time soon, not unless someone comes out with something crazy good - 5.7k not-so-wide angle with a "Leica" lens on a great big (comparatively!) sensor is more than enough for the above mentioned gimmick shots)
  5. Your site, your rules, of course! Though I would say that depending on the definition of action cam, I've used them on set any number of times - even more now that the Osmo Pocket 3 is so good. But even for the more GoPro style... Someone's going to open up an old wood furnace door and peek in? Chuck in an action cam. It gets covered in soot? No biggie for an action cam. Director wants POV of a fist hitting someone's face and their POV as they fall to the ground? Action cam. Director wants to get the wheels of a car rolling through the mud from up close? Action cam. Really, just about any shot that I think has a high chance of breaking a nicer camera or where a better camera simply won't fit, I'll just drop in an action camera. Half the time, the shot never gets used, but the other half the time, the director loves it. There's no way in hell I'd use any current model action cam (except the Pocket 3 if that counts) to shoot more than a cutaway/b-roll bit, but they keep getting better and it's easier and easier to match their footage in a way that's not too jarring. There are a lot of creative uses - many of which are arguably gimmicky or hacky, but that comes down to a matter of taste.
  6. The used OG FX3 might also cost less when the next gen is announced, even more so after a bunch of current FX3 shooters trade in toward the fancy new model.
  7. And what about gopro as odd cinema camera replacement to shoot dwarfs extreme barrels sports😬
  8. The rumours are all over the place!!! Who knows what we’ll get. My same wishes apply. 6k 50 no crop, super 3 way lcd and top evf. Faster processing. Happy for a video centric camera but looking for under 3000€ and video/photo switch
  9. And the prices will be doing a Status Quo as well. Unless you are in America of course.
  10. Turned down my invite and refused the NDA. I'll follow it online and the rumours, with the rest.
  11. I just think action-cam stuff belongs on a different website, and a different forum. EOSHD is about mirrorless cameras, cinema cameras and occasionally the odd smartphone. It's not about extreme sports shooting.
  12. I expect the next gen will cost more, but still, why would anyone either not buy that or a used OG FX3? It just seems like a waste of time to me, but hey, what do I know?! Of more interest will be what Lumix pops out in this niche because lenses aside, an L Mount ‘FX3’ sounds more interesting to me than a Sony FX3.
  13. Either the next gen will cost substantially more or they'll keep selling the 3a at a lower price after announcing the next generation for close to the same price. But your main point of "don't buy an FX3 right now" is fully valid. It's a 4-year old model. Other vendors have cameras that are highly competitive and arguably better. Sony needs to understand that failure to innovate (or slowness in innovation) is how they took so much business from Canon in the first place - and if their best idea for a "new" camera is to swap the display on an old one, the pendulum will be swinging back in short order.
  14. Why would anyone bother with that? As a potential customer, are you simply not going to carry on with what you have and wait for the next gen, rather than trade it in with a big fat chunk of depreciation for this mildest of updates? For anyone (like me) who avoided due to the rear screen, (or went for it but has it rigged up anyway so not an issue), surely you are not going to buy one? Maybe I am missing something but makes zero sense to me. It would make more sense to be able to send in your old unit and have it upgraded for a reasonable amount?
  15. So what I heard is that the 'A' moniker is because there is a FX3 Mk2 coming, but they will continue selling the original/this one.
  16. One could make the argument that it should be the Sony Beta FX3. 😉
  17. So other than some plug in stuff, the screen it deserved in the first place because all Sony cameras prior to the FX30 and A7RV have dog shit rear LCD's. I was actually going to go with a pair of A7CR's over my single unit A7RV but for a couple of things, the dealbreaker being those rear screens. So this is the mildest of updates at best hence the FX3A moniker though IMO they should have called it B and then everyone could refer to the OG as the 'A' model.
  18. There are so many fine shots here. On the point of the 14-140mm, I've just picked one up with a G7 (yes, getting back into M43 because it's so much fun). I've seen so many great shots with it, not so much because it's a super high IQ but simply it's such a nice lens for composition, especially for travel. Here's another set of clips from James Morrissey with his GH2 (I still have mine too):
  19. Usually, action camera footage is crap. This doesn't mean the device itself is. Neither the possibilities we can get from. The fact the lowest price the more wider the basis of the users' skills is. A bit like audiences. You extend the range you'll lower the quality of your outcome, no many options ;- ) - EAG
  20. Apparently the previous screen is no longer in production, which is why they've had to do this.
  21. Might be a bit embarrassing if everybody starts running amok with action camera footage... Lots of youtubes out there done with action cameras. Still i think that there are many possibilities that can lead to making more informed content available and should they outgrow it, their already at the right place to ask questions.
  22. The best cam is the one you bring and can shoot with. No other camera industry segment has so many upgrades as this one from so many sources. Finally, a place here where we can post it without feeling or sound intrusive in the middle of our sacred college of filmmakers. EAG :- )
  23. Oh and can someone buy Lumix a 2025 calendar because it’s May 😱
  24. So an FX3 with a higher res screen.
