ABOVE: Lumix GH2 team members at Panasonic With the 5D Mark 3 expected to have 30+ Megapixels, we are seeing video DSLRs severely compromised by densely packed sensors with poor light gathering abilities. Even camera phones are racing upward with 14Mp on a tiny sensor producing terrible results.
Whilst we wait for a Canon / Nikon mirrorless, a German man has appeared at CES with his own. In this controversial YouTube clip, WVIL appears to be a smart phone or tablet connected to the cellular network. It looks like a Samsung Galaxy S with a customised camera-style hand-grip. It is probably running Android and has a custom app to control a lens unit with a sensor.
A lot of bullshit surrounds the DSLR community and a lot of talk, but so what? Some people are worth listening to and some aren’t – that’s life.
Since the T2i hack turned out to be an idiot-bomb, we move our attention onto where the real action is. 2011 is going to be an interesting year. UPDATE Though not yet 11pm EST on New Year’s Day, it appears the hack is a hoax. Nothing stacks up right now, according to Philip Bloom. This stuff about Canon offering the team $650,000 is nonsense. It’s bad that someone can abuse the trust of the community and string us along with some kind of fraud (the end-game of which we can only speculate as) but we shouldn’t loose too much…
