Alex ma Posted November 29, 2013 Share Posted November 29, 2013 Hi all , i recently bought a canon 5d mark ii (used condition) and 2 canon lens , the 50mm f1.8 and 28 f2.8. The thing is that i am really not sutisfied at all by the performance when i am shooting landscapes. The quality is really poor. I spend a lot of time editing just to improve the quality of the shoots but i am still really unhappy with the results. I checked out lots of videos in vimeo and youtube to see if this problem comes from the permormance of the lens but i am still confused. If the performance problem comes from the len , which one you suggest to buy especially for landscape shooting ? maxotics Posted November 29, 2013 Share Posted November 29, 2013 What ISO, shutter speed f-stop are you shooting? Are you shooting RAW? Did you know that at very high f-stops, like 22, the quality actually deteriorates? Anyway, what level photographer are you? No zoom lens is going to match a prime lens optimally set up. Using your 28mm at say f8, at 100 ISO, 60th/sec+, on tripod, shooting RAW should give you excellent results. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
andy lee Posted November 29, 2013 Share Posted November 29, 2013 the Canon 24-105mm f4 is as sharp as any prime lens I own , it has aspheric elements and it is an Industry standard lens used by Pro photogaphers all over the world. I have shot extensively with this lens over the past 5 years now on my Canon and I can say it is a stunning lens highly recomended The Carl Zeiss 28-70mm f3.5 Vario Sonnar zoom in C/Y mount is also a superb lens very very sharp with aspheric elements - cheaper than the Canon and in my opinion sharper and renders nicer contrasty images Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Alex ma Posted November 29, 2013 Author Share Posted November 29, 2013 maxotics: Well i shooted at F22 , 100 iso speed , about 60-80 shutter speed , i took the shot like this because i wanted to have the right exposure. I just bought nd filters and i ll have them tomorow , i knew that at F8 - F11 you get the sharpest image but i didnt know if it will make so much difference , i ll check it tomorrow. I just started when i took the camera (5 months ago) no experience before andy lee: thank you very much for the information ! Didnt know about yashica :) I know the compration is awfull but ... i read that 5d mark ii can only shot 300 raw frames continiously (with an 1000x card) , is that true ? jgharding yes i already see the difference and it is huge. Especially in grading , H264 is easily messed up. For the time being i need to improve my shots before going to raw shooting i ll have a test with the nd filters and better settings tommorow. One more thing , in post production i edited in vegas pro exported in avi uncompressed file and then grade it in AE and finally exported (i didnt see any loss of detail for there) Thank you very much for your respond , any other suggestions will be really helpfull. This is your answer. The softness of the Canon DSLRs is actually an advantage for close-ups of people as it's flattering but for wide shots of landscapes it's probably not the best camera to use. I didn't think that the little clip that you linked to was awful just not great. The two lenses that you have are good & sharp particularly if you stop down at F/8 or F/11. Stopping down to F/22 is not such a good idea as you can get diffraction artefacts when you have the lens stopped down at F/16 & beyond http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/diffraction-photography.htm Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I am still shooting H264 cause to shoot in raw i need a better cf card and an upgrate to my pc that i cannot afford right now. I ll keep my lenses and i ll money to upgrate for Raw shooting . The BMPCC has much higher resolution than the 5D3 unless you shoot RAW with the Canon.
