This from Michael Hession at Gizmodo. It really is a great idea – he has used the stills burst mode (the fastest ever on a DSLR) of the Canon 1D X to piece together a short video at 14 fps. The video has the dynamic range, resolution and overall quality of photographs. It is a massive step up from the video mode but of course 14 fps is shall we say – a retro frame rate.

However I actually think it is a valid style. It has a certain appeal, a certain old Super 8 magic to the motion – but from a far larger sensor.

Dan Chung (watch the comparison video) has had a play with the long delayed Canon 1D X, the flagship pro full frame DSLR which was announced last year. Dan’s find is worth paying close attention to because it seems the 1D X’s image quality in video mode is exactly what we were hoping for from the 5D Mark III.

Canon have announced the $6800 Canon 1D X designed for professional news and sports shooters. It is far more a successor to the 1D Mk IV than the 1DS although officially Canon say it represents the merging of the two lines. Really, the 1DS replacement will be the 5D Mark III with a higher megapixel count.
