Apparently the previous screen is no longer in production, which is why they've had to do this.

So other than some plug in stuff, the screen it deserved in the first place because all Sony cameras prior to the FX30 and A7RV have dog shit rear LCD's.

I was actually going to go with a pair of A7CR's over my single unit A7RV but for a couple of things, the dealbreaker being those rear screens.

So this is the mildest of updates at best hence the FX3A moniker though IMO they should have called it B and then everyone could refer to the OG as the 'A' model.

So what I heard is that the 'A' moniker is because there is a FX3 Mk2 coming, but they will continue selling the original/this one.

Why would anyone bother with that?

As a potential customer, are you simply not going to carry on with what you have and wait for the next gen, rather than trade it in with a big fat chunk of depreciation for this mildest of updates?

For anyone (like me) who avoided due to the rear screen, (or went for it but has it rigged up anyway so not an issue), surely you are not going to buy one?

Maybe I am missing something but makes zero sense to me.

It would make more sense to be able to send in your old unit and have it upgraded for a reasonable amount?

Either the next gen will cost substantially more or they'll keep selling the 3a at a lower price after announcing the next generation for close to the same price.

But your main point of "don't buy an FX3 right now" is fully valid.  It's a 4-year old model.  Other vendors have cameras that are highly competitive and arguably better.  Sony needs to understand that failure to innovate (or slowness in innovation) is how they took so much business from Canon in the first place - and if their best idea for a "new" camera is to swap the display on an old one, the pendulum will be swinging back in short order.

I expect the next gen will cost more, but still, why would anyone either not buy that or a used OG FX3?

It just seems like a waste of time to me, but hey, what do I know?!

Of more interest will be what Lumix pops out in this niche because lenses aside, an L Mount ‘FX3’ sounds more interesting to me than a Sony FX3.

The rumours are all over the place!!! Who knows what we’ll get. My same wishes apply. 6k 50 no crop, super 3 way lcd and top evf. Faster processing. Happy for a video centric camera but looking for under 3000€ and video/photo switch

The used OG FX3 might also cost less when the next gen is announced, even more so after a bunch of current FX3 shooters trade in toward the fancy new model.
