There really should be a special word for this, not hacking or modding...this is really about consumer empowerment...crowd-something I guess...crowd-hacking..crowd-modding...crowd-geeking...whatever it is, I want more of this trend, dammit!

Now we gotta hook the hipsters so that EVERYONE starts doing it. :D Quick, - put this thing on instagram with a #swag hashtag!

HDMI cannot send raw data, just video, only SDI carries raw.
There is a way to get around this by wrapping the raw data into a signal that fools the HDMI protocol into seeing it  as a video feed, but this would require Nikon doing that trick (which is just theory and nobody else ever sent raw over HDMI) plus they would need to produce a dedicated external recorder than can identify, decode and record that signal, there are no external recorder that do it on the market. So no, HDMI is not a possibility.

Actually, Apertus experimented with raw over HDMI when developing the Axiom Beta.

Yes many people experiment it, but HDMI raw is not going to happen soon unless a manufacturer develops a new camera AND a new external recorder with that specific feature.

Point is, no HDMI raw is available now, not cameras or recorders, so raw over HDMI is not a possibilty for Nikon hackers or ML.

Well, it seems that for today's reality, it is possible to output 10bit 422 or 10bit 444 from som Hdmi Signals.

So , if a nikon Live view outpasses this signal and, if it can be sent via HDMI, an external recorder like Odyssey 7q+ would be able to record 10 bits 422 or 444 HD at least (and not 8bit 422 as it is already possible on nikon d800, d810 for example), wich would be a crazy good deal for any nikon owners.

But, as Raw 12 bits seems possible with an internal SD Card on these machines, we can really be much more amazed about this all discovery.

Everyone saying it is not  done yet is perfectly right, but it shouldn't hide the first steps towards it.

What we really should enjoy is that more and more people manage to "upgrade" nikon products via third parts programing and when you know how powerful their dslr allready are you can only be happy about such news.

If curious rebels stopped persisting against the impossible we would still think the world if flat, not have airplanes, let alone space stations. We need to remember that human progress has ALWAYS been about rebelling against the word 'impossible'.
