  1. The C70 is $3000 more with no RAW of any kind. The built in monitor on the Pocket 6k Pro is also a lot nicer. An optional view finder is quite nice too. I doubt you'll get more dynamic range out of a C70 than a P6K. I've heard C200/C300 owners say they don't think the C70 footage is any better. Not saying the C70 isn't great but its not the best by any means especially at its price point. 10 stop ND's, RF mount, and 3+ hr battery life is awesome tho.
  2. Yeah an external recorder isn't really too big of a deal. Not much different than using an external monitor. I did a test the other day to see how fast the rolling shutter needs to be so that its not noticeable. I found 7.2ms, which is HD S35 crop on the Panasonic S1 is not noticeable even with whip pans, that's with a 35mm lens. So the A7S3 which is like 8ms or something should be quite good. 12ms which is 4k S35 crop on the Pana S1 was quite good but not quite there. 20ms which is full frame 4k was pretty bad. Thats of course doing pretty aggressive pans which isn't something I do much in the first place.
  3. Yes that is why I began to think dynamic range and latitude were entirely different things. Because the testings by CineD didn't seem to translate to reality. The 11.8 stops of dynamic range doesn't add up from what I've seen from the Pocket. Yes the Arri has better dynamic range but the A7S3 or C300 MK3 or even C500, I am not so sure. I could upload the tests though I am lazy lol. The URSA just falls apart in the shadows due to fixed noise pattern which renders footage unusable even with neat video. It also clips highlights faster. Prores RAW is great though for most work I'd end up just using internal recording which is why its important for me to have that unprocessed image internally. I mean if RAW is not needed an image with NR and sharpening is probably fine but I am a stickler for that kind of thing for no good reason.
  4. XT3 with 18-55mm will get you the best image at this price point. The 18-55mm gives great stabilization for handheld work. Shooting with fully manual lenses will be a jittery mess unless you are shooting pretty wide. If you are willing to go used you can probably get an XT3 for around $800, lens for $300 or so, and that gives you cash for some accessories. IBIS is nice on a G85 but the image isn't nearly as good. Depends what you want.
  5. Different color science. Could replace the FS700 if you don't need 4k. An external recorder is really essential to get the best image out of this camera. Its probably not going to hold its value well but if it works for you an generates money that's all that matters. The view finder is often broken or faulty on used models so I assume it's a problematic part. Not essential to the function of the camera though. I like the ergonomics on the F3, though the menus suck hard but you already have an FS700 so you know that.
  6. Yeah man, its not worth it unless those bodies are gonna generate more cash. I mean you could do a pretty nice vacation with 5k.
  7. Thank you for the explanation. That was my previous understanding though less technically minded. What led to my confusion is dynamic range measurements. The Pocket 6k has considerably more shadow and highlight information than the URSA 4.6k even though the URSA is measured having more dynamic range by CineD and BM themselves. I know because I've tested both cameras and the difference not even debatable. The P6K killed the URSA. I've found the highlight recovery tool in Resolve to be very useful unless you are recovering skintones or really critical stuff. In regards to the FX3 I am definitely interested if they get rid of the nasty internal processing.
  8. Forgive my ignorance on this subject. Dynamic range and latitude have always confused me. But my understanding is that Dynamic range is measuring the brightest and darkest regions that retain detail in an image. This doesn't take into account shadows and highlights that can be recovered in post. If the highlights/shadows can be recovered then what is the disadvantage, is it just because it requires more post work to get the image where you want it?
  9. Ran out of time to edit my comment above. Rewatching the video the S1H has an edge in the highlights and a pretty noticeable edge in the shadows. Would be easier to see on a non compressed YouTube video of course, but it's noticeable. I think the rolling shutter benefit on the A7S3 can't be downplayed. The price of the S1 is hard to beat though. I was debating using it as my main camera with a Ninja V if the job calls for it. However a RED Scarlet recently fell into my lap so I've been toying with that. I'd probably get a Pocket 6k, despite my hate for the body. I really don't want to deal with 6k files though. I can shoot to the Ninja V in S35 4K which is something I can't do on the Pocket 6K. The S35 crop on the S1 is also a wider FOV than the Pockets.
  10. HockeyFan12 linked it above. I am talking latitude demonstrated in over/under tests. I've seen the S1 against the A7S3 with internal 10 bit and the S1 or maybe it was the S1H holds highlights better along with less noisy shadows. Yes it was the S1H, though with the latest firmware update I don't think they'll be a difference. In even beats the A7S3 RAW. There is a difference between latitude and dynamic range of course. The Pocket 6k can recover highlights amazingly well. I'd get the P6k but I don't want 6k files. I'd rather shoot internal 4k 10bit on my S1 or record S35 4K raw to a Ninja, something I can't do on the P6K unless I want a small sensor FOV.
  11. I kind of doubt the WDR will be of much use but that would be awesome if my hunch is wrong. More so just doubt Sony would allow their lower tier camera to have a big advantage over the FX9 or even the Venice. For me even the A73 has excellent dynamic range its just gimped by the 10 bit and awful processing. I know the Alexa is the bees knees but I've seen it pitted against the Pocket 6k and the 6k actually recovered more highlights with the highlight recovery tool in RAW. Yes the highlight recovery tool is cheating but the point is these new sensors aren't that far off. The The Panasonic S1 can recover more information in the highlights and shadows than the A7S3. I am really happy with it to the point where I no longer feel left out like I did with a GH5 or XT3 or whatever other camera. Worse case on the S1 is I need a little bit of fill light for crazy dynamic range scenes. Being able to shoot 4000 iso and get clean images is a huge luxury. I can light a scene with a 100 watt light bulb even after pushing it through diffusion. I mean yeah it would be nice if I could swing like Deacons and never use fill light, which he's mentioned that he never uses. Luxury of having an Alexa. For me having a 1 pound camera that can be powered for hours off a 50 gram battery is an almost unbeatable luxury. For me the two things missing are 12 bit internal, END's, and lower rolling shutter.
  12. Hmm is it usable WDR or just the type where it only works on scenes with little motion. Honestly though the A7S3 and Panasonic S1 dynamic range are amazing. The Alexa is only really capturing a stop more though the latitude is better. Of course the Alexa is not using noise reduction so it’s probably more like two stops if you’re just looking at the highlights. The FX6 is my favorite camera on the market right now. END is more valuable than a little more dynamic range. Plus being able to get clean 6400 iso.
  13. Pretty lame. Only attractive thing is the option to shut off NR if that is there. The A7S3 is damn good at not over heating.
  14. I am assuming the XLR Module can be placed directly on top of the camera bypassing the top handle. I love my Panasonic XLR Module. Its a game changer for me. Sony's IBIS at least on the A7S3 is actually really good. Panasonic goes the route of making the footage super stable but at the cost of weird warping if there is too much movement or if the lens is too wide. Fuji has those issues but a lot worse. Sony IBIS is much less stable looking but it can handle a lot more movement without looking odd. Basically the Sony looks more like natural handheld footage while Panasonic IBIS looks more like you are using a tripod.
  15. As long as the rolling shutter is low S35 is fine with me, especially if its a 6k 24mp sensor. With Sony auto focus a lot can be forgiven. Interesting release though.
  16. Yeah I honestly don't care about stills either but NR/Sharpening is important to me. Even though my clients couldn't care less. 4k 120p, full frame, and internals ND's, plus Sony auto focus would be amazing. As long as they allow to reduce the Fookin noise reduction.
  17. I think hybrid shooters might give up a mechanical shutter over not having an VND. No EVF is a bummer though. Hard to say though. Every hybrid shooter I know dismissed the A7S3 due to the 4k sensor. I personally shoot almost all my photography with the E-shutter, though its not ideal for sports unless they get the rolling shutter down around 10ms or below. The only thing that is keeping me from switching to Sony is their awful noise reduction/sharpening.
  18. The rumor is the A1 sensor which also does 4k 120 same as the R5. Makes sense as they already have the A7s3. But that would beg the question what differentiates it from the A1

    R5 vs R6

If you are in the PC realm H265 is still a hog but yeah the new MAC's breeze through it. One of the big reasons I got a new MacBook Air. H265 is quite nice. Quick render times and small files sizes with little compromises unless you are really pushing the footage.

    Panasonic GH6

Most people using the P4K are adapting other glass to it. That is where M43 is still super useful, you can pretty much mount anything to it. Of course any mirrorless camera mount is pretty much like that.
  21. Just being that its a high MP sensor sets it apart. Photographers were steering clear of the A7S3 due to the 4k 12mp sensor. People will flock to this. Looks to be the first camera that will really appeal to videographers and photographers with very little compromise between the two.
  22. Lots of people say Arri has an analogue look and that is what the majority of big stuff is shot on. But then again most content is coming from YouTube rather than Hollywood so your point is true.
  23. T7 seems superior for PC uses but in terms of camera recording the T5 is superior. At least from what I've seen.
  24. I don't know I'd be happy with an Alexa Mini LF sensor personally. 😅
  25. People definitely blur their images to match film especially when shooting on cameras that add sharpening. Using pro mist filters is super common to get a softer image. I think the disadvantages of film are well recognized though the visual ones are sometimes sought after.
