  1. Did you try the Z6 yet? I posted footage and so have others and the Z6 produces what the S1 does in quality from what I've produced for clients. The S1 might blow away the Z6 in the long run but right now if you compare the image output in 4K they look very close in a lot of ways. You wouldn't go wrong with either the Z6 or S1. For price the Z6 is the way to go along with 12 bit RAW Pro Res in the future. (no way Nikon doesn't make that happen).
  2. No, No GH camera. Blackmagic yes. As far as script goes the same bad ones will show up if you film Blackmagic. Why do cinematographers and DP's not understand what goes into a great story / script? You could also give Quentin Tarantino that same bad script and he makes a masterpiece. It's everything associated with a film that makes it. Of course the RED owner is going to blame the script and the writer blames the RED (DP). I learned long ago that most creative / cinematographers and crew usually settle for "is that what you want" or "they approve a shot or take when real studios wouldn't". You don't really sacrifice anything. Someone has to be in control to say that "not good enough, do it again".
  3. Frame rates and bitrate. Why not?
  4. It's the other models Sony hasn't updated that is the biggest let down. Even this camera could have had more on the video side.
  5. It is a weird full frame mirrorless market. Up until the fall of 2018 Sony was the only one in this group. You're right on Nikon bringing the goods on the next Z camera. I think with the Z8 or Z9 along with the D6, Nikon will above the rest for part of 2020. At least from quality of product released in the market. Nikon and Panasonic seem to be the only companies willing to give value and quality without holding back on specs. I think the Nikon Z line has gained sales since January and not lost them. That's not usually how it works but Nikon improved the AF and people started looking past the wickedly dishonest You Tube reviews.
  6. It was all connected. TV's, cameras and all in 4K. Even across to You Tube. It benefited everyone.
  7. That camera is a glorified iPhone for video. Sony needed a smaller cheaper camera to promote it's EYE AF and get to market. You do know when you buy a Sony you're paying for hype and that cost you at least $300 more then it should. Andrew you are 100% spot on. Finally someone is being honest about You Tube and big companies like Sony. On one hand people want to speak their mind and tell you to go to hell if you disagree or you give them a bad vibe. People are so defensive to the truth that it feeds the influencers because the general public doesn't trust each other. Why? Because of the influencer. The minute Joe public watches a You Tube video is when they 100% believe the hype. Now hype is not all bad because that's how brands are built and it's enjoyable when done well and the right way. Hype is bad when it's lies and dishonest opinion about other brands. This can be seen with Sony and it's influencers and the direct public opinion about the Canon EOS-R and Nikon Z6 when they were released. Sony single handedly caused the decline of full frame mirrorless sales from the fall of 2018 until today. They caused Joe Public to wait, wait for what Sony was coming out with. Canon and Nikon are just now getting the word out that those two cameras are relevant and are an real option. They are also relevant because of what Sony has not done. Marketing and hype is a great thing until they lie about other companies. Nikon and it's Z6 started this whole 10bit 4K full frame stuff anyway. It's a great video camera in 2019 for what I do. I posted video from the Z6. I would love your take on it and how awful that Z6 footage is.
  8. 4K tv's weren't introduced a generation too soon. That's crazy and no revisionist history says what you claim. Think about it. 4K tv's gave us RED and other cine cameras. 27 in displays that weren't 1080p Blueray content Cutting the cord and movies and tv content is viewed ONLINE. 4K tv's is not the main way people watch content anymore. Please, please keep in mind that 4K is just 1080p on a larger screen. I'm not sure why you and the ones who liked you post don't understand 4K is just a larger version of 1080p. It was a natural progression from 1080p to 4k from consumer to professional. The same can't be said for 8K. Not enough demand and broadcast is not ready for it. Yes you are right. I'm going to sell my Z6 and gear and shoot my next tv commercial with this camera. Thanks Sony.
  9. The A7III and GH5 are the two cameras that raised expectations for us. Panasonic has come forward with the S1, S1H and that's awesome but Sony has not. And we are still waiting for Sony to catch up. No need to blame people for giving Sony the "what have ya" for releasing a irrelevant camera when we are waiting on Sony's next big promise.
  10. Andrew speaks the truth about Sony. If the gloves are off with every other company then Sony is no different. Sony was leading the way giving up great products. Now who knows.
  11. Thanks @Kisaha Yes the sound guys had some experience and gear but not the results. My experience is people get lazy and when someone lets me down I go and figure out how to do there job. The same goes for audio. I'm the one who's on the line to the client, I'm the editor and director and audio has to pass my test first. I use to think audio would be fine and you hire an audio person and get what you get. Not anymore. We were shooting green screen with wireless lav and boom mic. Can you direct me to the best wav / wireless set up for outdoor set ups? What would you use?
  12. I wish you the best in the future. Sucks about the gear. Nikon with 10 bit 4K out looks good for now and 12 bit RAW will be nice to play around with. (If I get the Ninja recorder). I've learned a lot about the Z6 and it's CS. Mainly don't trust what it gives you and calibrate or adjust manually. I used 8500K in the outside guitar guy video for the first time. The Z6 doesn't have color shift were one area is off balanced that throw off the other color. I shot footage last week that looked just like the C200 CS. Not just skin tone but that nice shadow color that the C200 gives you. I want the P4K for it's reference camera value and it's a good step into cinematography. I love to push gear and get the most out of it. Audio is my blind spot.
  13. Was you gear covered and insured from theft. File a claim. @webrunner5 what can we do to help you out and help you replace the gear you had? Here's a few notes about me. - I go balls to the wall right now - I do national tv commercial but need to do one a month or more as a goal. - My Nikon Z6 let's me shoot the in-between clients and has already saved my thousands of dollars in rental cost. - My Z6 matches up with C200 footage that we needed a crew, lights and stabilizer to pull off. - I love the look of the P4K and will pick one up in the future. - My FS7 DP shoot 3 days with pink dots n his sensor and that's a lesson learned - You are under estimating the Z6 and what it cam do. - I am keeping up with the times and technology. The Z6 was the right step in the right direction. For Now. - I honestly have no clue if the Nikon Z6 is the system to build anything off of except it might be my personal camera - I know and have heard of a lot of DP's that invested in the FS7, C200 or BM Ursa Mini Pro 4.6K and are trying to sale those systems because they need full light packages because every shoot can't be a big production. No one shows up with the FS7, C200 or BM Ursa Mini Pro 4.6K ready to shoot on a lower budget. You have to light these cameras up to get them to look right. So it's not just the camera set up. - Most DP's and videographers aren't the creative let's go land the job and handle the job from script to screen. I am that guy. - I've rented the RED set up with high profile DP and it worked out great. No issues and the client was 100% happy with the end result. I carried insurance and the whole 9 yards. - My goal is to land big clients and buying a cine camera and gear won't be an issue. - I'm learning on the camera side. I'm a director, editor, camera and creative director. - I'll put my creative director talent up against anyone. - My whole goal with the Z6 was getting a B-camera that matched the C200 and FS7 on real shoots so I wasn't renting those cameras on certain jobs. So far this has worked out. I posted footage from the Z6 a few post back. What did you think? Here's a callout to anyone willing to help. I need help finding the right audio gear to use on the middle end productions and higher end productions. Audio is the one part that I haven't been happy with on any production that I was involved with. I have hired multiple sound guy and the quality is not there.
  14. Not a 8K A7 Sony series or Canon or Nikon FullFrame. Stop moving the goal post to meet your theory. You were the guy who said we don't need 4K because 1080P is fine. You also push the C100 all the time. Now you claim 8K is coming and will be the norm in 3 years. How far have we come since 2016 ?
  15. I don't think consumers are asking for 8K. I din't change my opinion at all. People still complain about 4K and dealing with it. Consumer demand is not for 8K. 3-4 people on this thread is not the consumers that create demand. No a bigger video file only means it's a bigger video file. Bad 8K video will still be bad. 10bit 4:2:2 in 8K will be so difficult to do on a FullFrame mirrorless camera. We can hardly get 4K 10bit 4:2:2 and you want 8K. 8k video on smartphone. https://momofilmfest.com/samsung-ai-8k-video-recording-smartphone-chip/
  16. We are getting 6k sampled down to 4k now and that's it. The quality is not what we want across the board. P4K is great, Nikon Z6 does a great job and the S1 looks great. And the S1H has to come out to give us better video then the previous models I mentioned. With this the S1H might not be better then the P4K or the S1 or Z6 in image quality, feature yes. Why does anyone want 8K with horrible rolling shutter, bad DR and cropped sensor read out? Does anyone remember how we got here and the lack of improvement to 4k video in the last two years? Again the P4K is great and Nikon Z6 pushed companies to finally open the gate and give us 10 bit full frame. Other then that I want these companies to improve 4k before they jump to 8K. Some of the old timers here say go get the C100 because who needs 4K anyway. Now 8K is something we need?
  17. Way to go on the big purchase. What were you using before the S1 purchase?
  18. Not for broadcast tv. You Tube. If Sony can't get 4K video to work at a close to cine level then a Sony mirrorless camera pushing out 8K will only be worse. You have a ton of issues that come with 8K video and 8K is not what consumers are asking for in a camera or tv display. The jump to 60fps and 10bit becomes harder to do with 8K and you should know this. So no 8K is not coming before the Olympics except maybe in a an entry level camera. Do smartphones do 8K yet? So there you have it.
  19. My comparison comment about the Z6 was questioning what you get with the A7R IV that's an upgrade over the Z6. I don't have the S1 so I don't have a reference point. The responses back seem lacking in value and none of them would make me jump back to Sony. It wasn't meant to be defending but given my previous comments I know where you're coming from. Lol. Here's some Z6 footage. This wasn't a gathering that lent itself to filming but I wanted to test s few settings. I was also trying to move around more then usual to see how the AF tracking would work and IBIS. How do the colors look and come across on everyones monitors? I have a couple of 27 in IPS screens and a Wacom Cintiq 21. The Wacom Cintiq 21 either has perfect color or the two 27 in monitors are correct.
  20. Nice to know people can bully other and then are so sensitive they have to put people on ignore. You defended the S1 and Lumix for not having good AF in this thread and then expect me to know you use Canon DPAF. I am all for anyone using MF all day long, I could care less. This message board is suppose to be were people share experience and comment back and forth about gear they used or might use. It's actually hard to find any conversations about tech or gear on this board because old school guys bring up cine gear and anything new is garbage, that includes the latest AF and expecting a $3K camera to have it even if it's Lumix.
  21. Maybe because the days of going and testing a camera in store are long gone and people want to know how cameras compare before they spend $2K or more on a camera. It all matter when some cameras have color science that you have to correct or AF that doesn't work very well or does the life long Canon shooter move to Sony and give up all the Canon glass he's purchased. It also matter in a message board like this to look for information beyond You Tube influencers because they some time have an agenda. Is the bmpcc still worth looking into? That's the original Blackmagic pocket camera right? I know very little about that camera.
  22. Like a painter it gives you a range of values to paint with. 10.5 will be different with each camera band depending on what 10.5 values they give you to work with. I don't see the progression from high to dark in the sample above and would rather see it on a grey scale. One thing I did study in college was art. I go by feel. If someone technical would like to explain DR and how they measure it that would be great.
  23. So the S1 has 10.5 stops of DR? WOW! Panasonic is running the spec deception on us again.
  24. My DP filmed a 3 day gig of mine, while I was directing, with pink hot spots on his sensor. And he was a seasoned DP.
