  1. I agree on the first part Sony also protects their higher end lines regarding video stuff like XAVC I at 600mpbs like the FS7 has will probably never trickly down into an A7s body. Sure the 8 bit codec at 100mbps is thin but the 4K image quality is amazing, class leading dynamic range and definitely sharper and more detailed 4K than out of the 5Dmk4 and M50.. Maybe im used to the 6K and 5K oversampling from Panasonic and Sony but the M50s 4K looks like its upscaled 1080P. Ive never had an issue with the menus on my Sony's maybe its because I spend a lot of time behind my cameras so I just get used to it? Sony lenses are not horribly overpriced, they are all brand new offerings to the market. Most of the equivalent Canon lenses have been on the market for over 10 years so the prices have dropped. Look at the brand new Canon EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM ($1,600) The G master equivalent is $1,800. The recently announced Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II USM is $1,300 the Sony 70-200mm f/4 is $1,300 The new 70-200 2.8 is $2100 the Sony equiv is definitely more expensive but its also corrected for Focus breathing and its par focal. You'll be surprised when the new mirrorless lenses prices drop they will be right in line with Nikon Z and Sony E mount prices. Going to autofocus.. 7:57 Sony seems better to me in his test. Every brand has its pros and cons I used shoot Canon, switched to Sony and was REALLY close to getting the GH5 when it first dropped. Just have to pick the best system for needs is all.

    A7III noise

Make sure your not under exposing and bringing the shadows up in post.
  3. 18 - 55 kit lens isn't even worth the time to get it fixed, if the lens had good image quality then sure.
  4. Z90 is decent in lowlight, not as good as my A6300 though. If your okay with a larger form factor the Panasonic AG-UX90 might be good.
  5. I shoot sports (really just Lacrosse) and here's whats in my Kit! Camera - Sony PXW Z90 Audio - Audio Technica AT875R with an Auray deadcat for my on camera shotgun mic, Sony UWP D11 for my wireless Lav System, and a pair of Senal SMH 1000's for my headphones. Peripherals - SmallHD Focus SDI and a pink Blue Star EVF cover Stabilization - Tripod (Manfrotto 502 on the Benro A373T Legs) Misc: 1 Foot SDI cable, 1 Foot XLR cable, SDs cards Bags/Case - Pelican 1510 Case and the Sony LCS BP3 Backpack Overall I've been loving this setup (Focus SDI is a very recent addition though) With the Z90 I getreally good video autofocus, XLRs, Built in NDs, 4K, 120FPS slow motion, 10 bit 422 in HD, and I don't have to fiddle around with lenses. The audio quality is good enough for someone that doesn't have a dedicated sound guy. Everything packs down nicely and the overall Kit isn't huge. I plan to upgrade the Manfrotto 502 because IMHO I don't think its a good head.. In the Coming future I would like to add an FS5 or even a FS7 if I can get it for a REALLY good price so I can get that super 35 goodness ? So what do you guys shoot Documentary wise and whats in your kit? Please add picture like I did below.
  6. Yes I would like to see more lenses like the Sony 18 - 110 F4 and 28 - 135 F4, Lenses made with video in mine 1st but also more budget friendly.
  7. Yeah that audio makes me wanna cry.
  8. It helps to have options though, something you never even considered might be a fantastic choice for your described uses.
  9. Okay you've said that like 6 or 7 times now..
  10. Personally at this point I am all in with this current auto focus craze, I've owned the Sony A6300 for 2 years and the Sony PXW Z90 for 7 months. The auto focus on those cameras is unbelievably good. As long as you set the correct drive speed for what your shooting and choose your focus area. Getting shots in focus and keeping them in focus is something I simply don't have to worry about. I can spend more time on composition/framing and exposure. Also I shoot sports from the sidelines so manually focusing is really difficult for that type of scenario. I do have some decent manual focusing skills and every now and then I practice manual focus for when I finally upgrade to an FS5 or an FS7.
  11. Slog 2 clips bright reflected white at 109 ire not 107 and I've never heard of Slog 3 clipping at 109 ire, even on the FS7 and F55, have a source for this info?
  12. This just showed up in my Youtube feed lol -
  13. Ive learned so much from Youtube over the past few years. The term "YouTube University" shouldn't be taken lightly.
  14. "Years ago I bought a manfrotto 500 something and it would always ruin the shot if I let go of the handle" That's because you didn't properly set the counter balance on the video head, another factor could be your camera setup is to lightweight for the head.
  15. Last time I checked Canon said they would sue ML if they tried to release more builds hence why there's been nothing for the 80D, 5Dmk4, and 1DXMK2. Canon still wants you to spend $7K (C200) for good video features.
  16. If you shoot with Sony theres a program called Sony Catalst Browse and that program IIRC shows me my focal length and whole bunch of other useful info like the picture profile that was used, color space, bit depth, ISO and more. Not sure if it works with Panasonic or Canon.
