  1. Yup, that's the one. Couldn't agree more.
  2. What's even more interesting about them is the fact that they are placed on the lower tier of the price spectrum, just where both of us like to aim. ( : Cineluxes aren't that popular (don't know why, to be honest), so it takes some time to find one in good condition. There is just so many things one could know about all these adapters.. It's a deep, dark pit.. I tried to stay up-to-date for about a year, but then I realised it doesn't help my creativity in any way. That's why I decided to keep it simple (one cheap scope) and be done with it. ( :
  3. Not only that! Some people dislike blue flares, whereas others would do everything (no kidding, even to the point of removing lens coatings) to get them. To each their own. (( : I myself got rid of two anamorphic adapters only because: 1) they didn't flare enough, 2) and if they did show some occasional flare, it was ugly greenish. Right now, I own a beautiful Schneider Cinelux that gives me amber/magentish streaks. ?
  4. Great comparison. It's nice to have everything tested by one and the same person - a lot of variables drop out. The only thing I don't like about Sirui is how easily it flares. Street lights causing all those streaks? Come on.
  5. Oh, yeah! Finally! Congrats on delivering it, must've been quite wearisome to wrap it up. I'll definitely take a look at the guide. 7/10, not that bad. (( :
  6. Could you film this with your phone? Just so we can see, what's going on and when.
  7. Have you already returned it? What seemed to be the problem? Maybe instead of suggesting a new monitor, we'll try to help you with the one you own?
  8. Just like their new gimbal, this one is also going on IndieGoGo: "Cinematize your shots!" ? Is there even a verb like this?
  9. Eterna is the easiest to work with and control on set. What you see is what you get. No need to work on it in post production. HLG gives the most pleasing results (at least based on my experience), but it's not that easy to get your exposure / white balance right, if you don't use an external monitor with correction LUT. I don't like F-Log. (( :
  10. This may be of use to many of us. ( :
  11. Maybe you didn't read it carefully enough? It's clearly stated in the original post: You can use a Soviet lens you already own, however I'd encourage you to buy a new one for this challenge in a focal length you don't already have, this way you will still learn something from the challenge
  12. @kye, to my eyes, this Industar looks even better than Helios. It's contrasty, but subtle at the same time. Firstly: hats off to all participants. You did a really great job. Not only finding a use for many (unfairly) forgotten lenses [I'm a fan of recycling, hahaha] but also showing that in experienced hands they are as good as many of their modern counterparts. As to why I didn't enter: It's partly due to me being me - an introvert person who does not feel right pointing a camera at strangers unless: a) I'm on holiday and try to capture overall ambience (but then, I'm just a simple tourist - not really harmful), b) they (strangers) take part in an event I wanted to document (usually things connected with street art or photography). And partly because of our Polish law: we can take photos / videos of people in public places, but if we were to publish them, then all the hell breaks loose and problems start to arise. You can't publish pictures without the consent of the people shown in them, in case they can be easily recognised. Sure, Germany has almost identical laws (or is it us copying Germany), but what is totally different is people's attitude to it. Most Germans I met were self-aware, but trusting and open-minded. They weren't afraid about what you might think of them, of your judgement. They seemed authentic and proud of it. That's why I think they are more likely to appreciate you photographing them, since they don't feel offended by any means. Whereas here, in Poland, I feel that a photographer is usually considered as some kind of an intruder. Our nation is kind of insecure and we pay a big attention to how we are perceived. If you just take snaps of buildings, walls, etc, you may be spared, but God forbid if you point your camera at actual people. I just can't forget my first attempt to street photography. I set out quite early (~9 AM on a peaceful November Saturday morning) and after strolling a little I managed to find a quite interesting composition. I leaned against a wall and waited for the perfect moment, for the perfect passerby. Not more than two minutes passed, when some lady approached me and accused me of taking photos of her home. She demanded I show her all of my photos or she calls the cops. I couldn't show her anything because I didn't even press the shutter once, yet. I tried talking my way out of this situation, but she thought I was a making a fool of her and somehow hid the images in a secret folder. Very unpleasant experience. That's why you didn't see any entry coming from me - I just had no proper occasion (well, at least to me) to take the camera out. I'll definitely post something, but can't really say when.
  13. Just another thing you mustn't forget to charge..
  14. This setup looks nice! One of the best you can get, IMHO. You should be okay with Helios + 0.64x SB in terms of vignetting. Both Cinelux and FVD-16A won't affect sharpness / contrast of the taking lens, so if your copy of Helios is sharp wide open, then you're good to go. Keep us posted. ( :
  15. Didn't know you were a gamer kind of dude, Andrew. Nice place. o; Great impressions, looking forward to seeing more!
  16. I like the overall tonality and ambience, but the talent's skin looks a bit off to me. It's a bit pale and at the same time too pinky / magentish / reddish (especially her nose).
  17. It's a shame he virtually stopped making new videos, I found them really informative, even if you were just starting out. Same goes for Avery Peck. Which I find even more surprising, since he promised to keep uploading new videos regularly..
  18. May we, Poles, enter the competition just because we're Polish? ? We're almost as close to Mother Russia as to Switzerland. XD (not counting Kaliningrad)
  19. I'm not impressed - quite the opposite - to be honest. Looks very digital and over-sharpened. They didn't even bother to set correct shutter speed in the Mikio Hasui video, not to mention blown-out taxis in Ani Watanabe's impressions.

    Lenses

If you are not afraid to open the lens, then try this:
  21. Here are Martin Scorsese's words: [the magazine in question is Empire Magazine] Surely, people are outraged. But, in my view, he is quite right. He took care not to hurt the MCU creators by saying: 'as well made as they are', so I don't see why he is accused of being insulting.
  22. Reading these may prove to be a good starting point:
  23. ) : Sorry to hear it, as I quite enjoyed the first one, too! EXACTLY. To be honest, my serious movie watching started only after moving out of family home and breaking the 'bedtime' chains, hahahaha. In 4 years time I managed to get through (and really enjoy) some of the most important/memorable moving pictures and somehow develop a taste of mine. But, as you can see, there are still some titles I haven't watched yet. ( :
  24. Matrix Trilogy. I've never really got a grip on the story (no surprise; when it was first released I was 8 years old, hahaha), so I decided to watch and understand it for the first time. ( :
