Go to video -> Sound -> audio setting -> PCM Recorder Link -> Camera REC volume. You need to have it set to "disabled". Now there's no more hiss, but you need to have your external recorder connected to the mic input as it is now the preamp and the camera does nothing (except record the audio it receives). Took me forever to figure this out. I thought someone might be interested.

Can we leave chatter about equivalence to another thread? Everyone has already made up their mind about sensor size.
    I'm interested in S5 news.

This is definitely taken by the Sony book. For years Sony was selling cameras only from the spec lists with terrible ergonomics, terrible battery life, overheating and the such and they reached No2..
Canon decided to play "dirty" and put everything they had on a camera, which isn't even that "expensive". I believe it is a good marketing strategy for them, but for me, it gives more points to Panasonic, as the most true and honest manufacturer out there.
It overheats? then make the biggest and heaviest m43 ever made (GH5) because it has to be a workhorse. We have to make a full frame hybrid video workhorse? put a fan into one if need be. That is an incredible approach, especially back in the Alpha and alpha days but even still...
Another point I want to make, is that there is a new business model out there, that they do not need workhorse cameras anymore.
Some people can just use any camera producing small clips, or youtube videos and earn their bread (and butter). For me, it is unacceptable that a camera may ,or may not, overheat on a job (even FS7 do rarely and its a huge thing on set), but I see a lot of the younger generation that have no problem with that.

I started with the unexpanded (1K of RAM) version of the ZX81.
Of course, we were happy then, even though we were poor.

Here in Italy we are in an almost total lockdown. Shops closed, pubs closed, schools closed, church service reduced, public events canceled, sporting events canceled, public transport reduced and so on. And this until April at least. We even need a valid reason to go outside in case the police ask (and they do), with valid reasons being work, health problems, purchase of food, visiting a sick relative, going back home and things like these. I have never seen my country so empty. You really do see not many people around, which by Italian standars is quite strange. You can also see people going around with a mask, which has never been a habit here, and people not giving a hug and a kiss when meeting each other, which instead has always being a common Italian habit.
I also think that this virus is still a flu, even though quite a strong one. And being a flu (that is low mortality, high diffusion), I guess the number of people being infected is way more than the number found with the test. The test doesn't give you a real number of total cases, just the number you found and a rough estimate on the population. Probably there are many people who got infected but never got sick, and others that, even if sick , were just having minor symptoms, like the ones normally associated to a flu or a cold. Otherwise it's hard to explain such an explosion of cases in the past 10 days.
Other European countries are just 2 weeks behind us and should lock everything down now, not in two more weeks. Spain is having a surge in cases now, 3000 already with a population half the Italian one in a country twice as big. This virus is not so dangerous by itself if you are not already weak  for other reasons (age, cancer, hearth problems, diabetes, etc.) but it can have a strong impact on the healthcare system.

Governments are too slow to react. Chinese were only one of the few to succeed to control it. Later but succeeded it. As Japanese too. For some reason cameras are usually made there, we can understand now why. The rest of the world should be ashamed, especially Europe. As European citizen, I am. We have no rulers, but a bunch of clowns.

OK for @jase or anyone else who wants to prod about in a bit more of a structured manner on their Lumix device, I have just knocked up this rough and ready Lumix Video Format Explorer app for Android.

Usual story, attach your camera to your device over wifi and then open the app and hit the CONNECT button and your camera should clear its wifi screen and show that it is under remote control.
If you want to see if the 709Like profile works on your camera then just hit the 709Like button and see what happens. Certainly does nothing on the GX80 but it seems to on the GX9 so its worth a go on similar later cameras.
The next 4 buttons switch the video format of the camera and the MP4ED appears to populate the GX9 with additional options but again, nothing on the GX80.
Next up, we have the SELECT FORMAT button. When you press that, you get this list (which scrolls to several pages).

This is the list of every format returned from a probe of the GH5 so select the one you want to try and it will return you to the main screen with that one now shown in the blue banner beneath the SELECT FORMAT and SEND button.
Obviously to send the currently selected recording format you then hit SEND.
Beneath the blue banner are the PREVIOUS and NEXT buttons which will select the next recording format in the list and then automatically send it to the camera.
The reason for the two different methods is obviously so you can use the list selection to get to a specific one you want rather than scrolling through and the PREVIOUS/NEXT auto method is better for stepping through regions of formats (i.e just the AVCHD ones).
Finally, the RECORD button is a bit self explanatory and switches between red and green depending on status.
The purpose of having the file name in the bigger banner is so that for testing you can point the camera at the phone (on a stand or propped up ideally) and then when you review the recorded file you will have a visual indicator of what file format you had told it to record in for easier confirmation.
If you send the camera some file formats it really doesn't like then certainly on the GX80 this can sometimes result it in de-populating its list inside the camera (i.e. you can select MP4 but there are no different formats listed) but this can easily be resolved by choosing a known working format from the list and sending it which will restore the list.
For the GX80 an example of this will be
    mp4_24p_100mbps_4k
As this contains the full list of all 202 GH5 format variants, I'd probably say this is the definitive last hurrah for anyone trying to find any hidden type inside their Lumix cameras and is obviously fastest and the most structured way to do it so will be less painful than having to paste hundreds of commands into a browser.
I think that this will be more fruitful for the latter cameras based on what seems to be happening with the GX9 so if you have one of those then using this you might be able to find more gold with that one a bit quicker.
Also, if you come across someone with an LX100 Mark 2 then this app will let us quickly establish if there is anything in there as I now have a sneaking feeling there might be.
Usual caveats regarding use of this app is that it doesn't send any commands other than those sent by the Panasonic app but obviously use of it is at your own risk.
Your Android device should auto install the attached apk file when you download it but make sure you have your security settings set to allow installation of apps from “Unknown sources“.
