    Well, well, well...
I have just managed to buy an absolutely mint condition used LS300 for just under £2K and will take delivery of it next week.
I'm mildly excited at this development.

@Arikhan Wish it did!! We can't ask the world for such a cheap camcorder!
Kudos to JVC thought, they are really trying, I wish they have a new offering in NAB in the 5000euros price range, which interests me most.

    @Arikhan Where it says internally?
"Version 4.0 provides 4:2:2 (8-bit) 4K recording at 24/25/30p onboard to SDXC media cards."
"The GY-LS300CH will also now have the capability to output Ultra HD at 60/50p via its HDMI 2.0b port. Through JVC’s partnership with Atomos, the GY-LS300CH will operate seamlessly with the new Ninja Inferno and Shogun Inferno monitor recorders, triggering recording from the camera’s start/stop operation. Plus, when the camera is set to J-Log1 gamma recording mode, the Atomos units will record the HDR footage and display it on their integrated, seven-inch monitors."

I've just got the Atomos Ninja Inferno as the first part of the equation before I got the LS300 to go with it but I was holding out until after NAB to be certain.
I suspect with the recently announced updates for the LS300 that it will very much remain a current camera and that this new one will sit above it in the range so might not be for me anyway.
If it creates enough buzz though it might give the LS300 a shot in the arm as well to create awareness that JVC is a viable alternative to the usual suspects if you need something flexible.

To be fare, like all cameras including the fs5 there are some negatives that one should identify to be able to work around them.
But when you do you get a hell of bang for the buck.

Ive always worked fulltime for companies or governmental agencies. Any freelance Ive done has always been for the fun of it.
All my stuff and the YouTube have been for personal projects and to keep my shooting and technical "know how" up to speed. Ive never "needed" to use personal gear for work. Even if I sometimes have because it was good stuff
I will still have a camera for stills and what not. But lately I haven't owned any good video shooter since they arent very good with stills. An xt2 would be nice but the xt1 is just far to affordable.
Any who, went a bit OT there.
If anyone is thinking about the LS300 all I can say is that its a great camera.

Its been a very long time ago but i produced over 100 30 min TV show episodes with one 3 chip JVC camera and never had a problem with it. Then i moved into Sony DV and DVCPro doing over 100 more shows with that before getting a bum deal on a show i was working on and i sold everything and got of of video and went in to Photography full time for 15 years. Getting back into video i love what is available now and what can be done so easy now.

    Agree.
But I did shoot around 3 paid gigs with the GH4 - nothing special at all. I concluded that need a I better image in this price range. A6500, original A7S, NX1, Nikon D750, EM ii, Canon Mark iii... these images impress the people you are filming. It usually looks better than what they are used to seeing (if you choose the right environment, style and grade for each). You have to battle with the GH4 footage to get the same results in post under most circumstances, except sit down, well lit interviews. But the others can impress with native profiles and native lenses.
The GH5 image looks great, compared to the GH4 - but in my view its not demolishing the others regarding breathtaking shots I consistently see with a camera search on vimeo narrowed to the last 30 days. NOTE - some shots are stunning, especially portrait/close ups w. bokeh
However, they have nailed the camcorder/dslr hybrid of 2017.
I would love to see an image comparison test with the DVX200 4K (similar price considering add-ons, lenses) to see if we are finally ready to admit we want camcorders back.

The first of these videos were internal recordings. I do not thing that this camera has 10bit capabilities at all, as it isn't just a firmware/software thingy.
At one point (soon), I assume we all be needing 10bit, TV industry pushes it slightly for now.

Honestly, Mattias' LS300 footage is better than anything I have seen from the GH5. With this update, this camera is epic. I don't love the form factor and I have no intention of buying one, but it really is unmatched at this price point.

    "GY-LS 300 CH"

JVC KENWOOD Corporation implements function enhancement by upgrading the version of "GY-LS 300 CH" for commercial use 4K memory card camera recorder currently on sale from JVC brand.
With this function enhancement, it is possible to output a frame rate 60p signal at 4K shooting, and in combination with the corresponding recorder, it will realize operation as a recording system compatible with the mainstream 4K broadcast standard for broadcasting business in the future .
In addition, this version upgrade is available by downloading the firmware "Version 4.0" (released from May 29 th) from our website and (free of charge) and installing it on the camera body.

Additional function by upgrading "GY-LS 300 CH"

Operation of recording system linked with external recorder is realized by adding external output of 4K / 60p signal corresponding to 1.4K broadcast standard

"GY-LS 300 CH" currently on sale has gained popularity as a camera system for 4K / 30p recording, but by applying this firmware, domestic broadcasting company companies set it as the standard of 4K broadcasting Also for 4K / 60p signals, it enables output from the main unit HDMI terminal. ATOMOS integrated monitor recorders "SHOGUN INFERNO" and "NINJA INFERNO" correspond to the recorded 4K / 60p signal recording * 1. In addition, the camera side is equipped with a dedicated REC trigger enabling recording control of "SHOGUN INFERNO" "NINJA INFERNO", realizing operation as a portable recording system.
※ 1: As of March 24, 2017. An optional SSD memory is required for recording.
    2. 4: 2: 2 sampling record of 4K / 30p, 4K / 24p possible on SD card

Up to now, sampling at 4K recording was only 4: 2: 0, but with this version up, 4: 2: 2 sampling recording of 4K / 30p, 4K / 24p is possible on the SD card mounted on the camera It becomes ※ 2.
    * 2: In the 4K 4: 2: 2 recording mode, the image output from the HDMI / SDI terminal is HD signal only.
    3. Additional function addition

    · It is possible to use it even when the camera operation by web browser is 4K / 30p (or 4K / 24p) recording. (Conventionally available only when recording HD).
    · You can use the network function * 3 by connecting the machine to a computer or tablet via a network and using a web browser.

    * 3: In the 4K network function effective mode, the image output from the HDMI / SDI terminal is HD signal only. Also, among various network functions, streaming function can not be used.

Atomos looked like they'd got great timing releasing the new Ninja Inferno at the same time the GH5 became available but its even better timing with this upgrade of the LS300.
For a total price of $3550 from B&H these two make a massively specced package.
JVC did packages with Samyang lenses and if they've got any sense they'll do a bundled version of the LS300 with the Ninja Inferno.
Everything about the LS300 on the front end is there (Super35 sensor, 4K,LOG,flexible mount,ND,XLR,dedicated controls) as are the clever features like Variable Sensor Mapping and the brilliant Prime Zoom function and mating it with the Ninja Inferno now takes care of the rest of it as on top of all that you get 10 bit 4K60p direct to edit ready ProRes on affordable media and a no compromise professional monitor with all the bells and whistles thrown in.
Thats a hell of a system for $3550.
Its probably not going to be attracting the same sort of user (or buzz!) as the GH5 (to which you could of course attach the Ninja Inferno and get all the back end stuff) but for people who really need a solid camcorder for broadcast work that can also be used for digital cinema then I can't see any better options than this.
But they really need to up their marketing game and let people know about it.

    Thank you.
For the J-log, you follow the JVC's instructions? (put on Premiere, adjust image as to be inside 0-100, and then apply the log?)
and when you say "expose very little to the right" you mean over expose? because we tend to under expose a bit.
Sorry for the questions, but there aren't many JVC owners on the forums to talk about it!

@Philip Lipetz In my country (where everything is more expensive than the average European or N. American country) the LS300 is 2958euros, and B+H with the rebate is(was?) almost 2460$, while GH5 isn't here yet, and with the XLR thing, ND filters, and the such, will be more expensive than the LS300, and the LS is a true camcorder, while other similar solutions go north of 5000euros.
Also, they add 4:2:2 4K/30p on the card, which is enough for most I guess.
I believe it to be the best value for camera video camera. Is it perfect? of course not, but if a Canon C100mkIII had the same specs and features, would have at least double the LSs price.
If I remember correctly you do record performances? Imagine 2-3 such cameras, with the same settings and accessories, would be perfect for someone doing such work. A dSLR/mirrorless has a lot of video handicaps, even the amazing new GH5, I am reading that battery times are halved, from GH4, and what I liked in GH4 (and my NX1) is the great battery life for a mirrorless camera. For the cost of one FS5 you get 2 cameras that do the job (plus the offer a shotgun mic in the package! which is quite bad..but still, unlike Ursa, you have everything to start recording immediately).
@Alt Shoo Do you own one? do you know anything about the J-log post production?
Edit: Just to be 100% fair and precise the slow motion function of this camera is almost a joke, that is 100% the most annoying thing and needed fixing as I can't see myself needing that 4K/60p anytime soon, while the heavy crop of the slow motion renders it unusable. For simple 100frames we are using my NX1, and for more we are renting FS700s, which are very cheap to rent right now. I wish the new update has done something for this issue too.

    Here's a basic formula:
When possible, take away all the light and carefully add light tuned for the story and emotion of the scene. Look at how often everything is dark, or overall not very bright in classic films. Paint with light. There are tons of books on this subject. Shoot at night and wet down the street. Set the frame rate to 24 (or 23.976), shutter 1/48 (or 1/50). That's for normal shots, you can go all over the place for emotional effect of the scene. Protect highlights so they don't clip and pay careful attention to exposure to keep skin tones in the sweet spot for your camera. Study film behavior for highlights and adjust your look in post to match the highlight and color response of film. Film generally never gets super white. Use a diffusion filter of some kind. Blur a little in post if necessary and add full resolution film grain (blur may not be needed if diffusion is used). Make sure there are no digital artifacts such as aliasing or Moire. Use depth of field to help tell the story by helping the viewer focus on what's important in the scene. If your camera has rolling shutter, make sure to move the camera in a way to minimize it. Try to make the scene a little 'unreal', in a way you would not see in normal everyday life. Like in a dream.

I think in this day and age Gear matters a Hell of a lot because, just like your A7s, there is a lot of cameras that can be bought for less than 2000 bucks, that a skilled person can make a film, documentary, Band video that you can look back at 5 years from now and say damn, that is really not too bad.
This crap where you use a piece of shit camera is just that, crap. If you want to do this stuff pony up 2k for a camera rigged and just do it. There is too many great used cameras for 2k to make excuses. You are wasting your friends, paid actors time, and yours with a friggin Canon T3 in this day and age. Make a commitment to do the best you can do gear wise, give up smoking, drinking, eating out ,and buy a camera that stands the test of time. OK, off my soap box LoL.

Just remember, you don't have to spend a fortune on lighting etc... & you don't have to buy the brand new stuff.
You've got a great [cheap] camera in the BMPCC & buying a cheaper one will probably cause you to spend more on the other stuff in the long run.
The whole point of that guy's video, is that he has a camera & instead of buying a new one, he spent some money on lighting, sound etc...
So, you've got a really nice camera, with great dynamic range (you don't need to shoot RAW, the ProRes HQ is amazing!). Why not go to IKEA or somewhere similar & buy some China Balls for lights & if you can get your hands on some old filament light bulbs great - or you could just put stronger light bulbs in & shoot with natural light with some boards. You can buy some secondhand cinema mics for under £100 & a simple analogue field mixer, which you can plug into your BMPCC & get great sound with the right lead.

Sorry Jon, I think you missed the point of my post! He has a good camera, he might not need to sell it to buy a cheaper one to fund his film. What else has he got lying around that he can sell? Sell your iPod, get a cheaper phone...whatever, fund your film that way.
It's true that story, light etc all count more than the camera. It's seems his problem is not the camera, as he has a good one, but funding.

I'm not sure it's a good idea to be selling and buying new equipment all the time. You'll probably lose money that way. You have a great camera in the bmpcc, why don't you stick with that? Do you have anything else you have lying around that you don't need that you can sell? It's amazing how selling stuff we don't use can add up to a bigger sum quite quickly.
