Kowa 1.5x is a dream lens. How do you find it against the Bolex?

Both are dreamlenses. The Bolex gives more flares and the Kowa give some clearer images. Both are extremely sharp, but I cannot say which one is more sharp. I took some pictures from buildings and the Bolex did look sharper. There are also differenses between several Bolex and Bolex Möller lenses. But this is what I see so far. I am happy with the Kowa ;-)

  2. My third lens is the Kowa anamorphiC 35 - 1.5x. The other two (Bolex 16/32/1.5 and Iscorama pre 36) I sold already. These three lenses belong to the top of anamorphics at 1.5x. They are different from each other but I like the sharpness and clearness of the Kowa. Perhaps this thread will give others to share ideas and footage. Here my first test, paired with the Voigtländer Ultron 40mm and Samsung NX1. Enjoy!

  3. I liked the Redstan for the Bolex 16/32/1.5x very much. I recently bought one for my new Kowa C35. When I buy a new lens, I first look if Redstan has a solution. Don't save money on clamps when you buy expensive anamorphics ;-)

  4. I bought recently a step-up ring. Noticed that a step-down ring is very solid and has a lot of thread to screw a redstan adapter at the taking lens. But a step up ring does only have a few lines of threads. Does that hold an adapter as a Kowa C35? The question is, are there brands that have solid build step-up rings?

Unfortunately I have never owned an Iscorama 36. The Bolex is sharper and then the Kowa C35 is sharper then that. Isco with warm flares and Bolex with purple and blue and Kowa has blue and magenta. All are good for different projects. There is no perfect lens, which is why most people have multiple. Cooke? :)

Hard to let them go. Your set up looks like it's easy to use and provides a lovely filmic looking image on a digital camera. What else could you want ;)

@Ian Edward Weir, that's why you have a collection ;-) ... There are no perfect lenses, every lens his own character. Perhaps I will have also a few collected in the future to play with. The Kowa 35C 1.5x for sure.

  6. The Bolex is a bit sharper then the Iscorama 36. When I focus at my NX1, I clearly see with focus guidance more green with the Bolex. Doesn't mean that the Iscorama isn't sharp, but with dual focus on the Bolex, you will have sharper results. The Iscorama is easy to handle and prduces very nice warm flares. Like to see the comparisson of the 3 lenses by @Ian Edward Weir

I thought you really dug the Bolex. Now that you have the Iscorama, what do you think? You also did not have a Hard Core DNA with the Bolex correct?

That's for me the reason @Edward. I really like the Bolex and I am sure I will regret. I was thinking about a Hardcore DNA, but I don't need him anymore. I don't like traveling with lens supports, rods etc. The Iscorama was only 10 minutes on Ebay.... because I bought him for lower than 2K. Otherwise I kept the Bolex. I am sure the buyer will be very happy with this little gem and perhaps he will post some footage here. Keeping 2 lenses was no option for me.

It feels like I switched footbal club, from Ajax to Feijenoord,... or Manchester United to Liverpool.

  8. I own the Bolex since a few months an I really like him. I use him with the Voigländer Ultron 40mm at my Samsung NX1. I have the one with bleuish / magenta flares and that one is what I have heard very rare. I consider buying the hardcoreDNA, but then I need also a rig for the weight of the combi. But perhaps I switch over to the Iscorama 36 to keep it compact for point and shoot. The sharpness of the Bolex is amazing!

Yes, I mount the Biotar with NXL. I use this sequence: NX1 > NXL speed booster> EF/Exacta > Biotar > step up ring > Anamorphot.

The NXL it's focal reducer, the Biotar 58mm with NXL get the lens about 62mm without lost light stop.

    62mm?

  10. I have installed the hack NX-KS recently, before I had the Vasile version. I filmed in slowmotion and 'only' in 20Mbs. Is there any possibility to set the clip at a higher bitrate? and perhaps in 4K?

Perhaps this is duscussed earlier, but I could not find the topic.

  11. I can't find a post so quickly about this item, so perhaps discussed earlier... Does anyone has experience with anamorphic and steadicam together? I have a Pilotfly H1 and I consider buying a stronger one like Beholder EC1. The H1 is perfect for my NX1 and PZ16-50mm, but not for an extra Bolex 16/32 lens. Anyone?
