  1. If you are recording internally it only outputs 1080p on the HDMI port unless I misread it? That being the case if you really need SDI out purely for monitoring (or recording the 4:2:2 HD signal externally) then one of BM's micro converters will do the job for you for about £35.00 As per the BMCC etc there will be cages that will trap the HDMI in place to the camera and at £35 it won't be that much of a hardship to epoxy the other end of the HDMI cable into the converter permanently. BM cameras can be remotely controlled through SDI (they even make an SDI Arduino shield specifically for people to create their own controllers for the cameras and their ATEM switchers) but I doubt that it will be doable via the converter unfortunately so that would've been a good use for having a native SDI port for me. But, as I say, for purely monitoring purposes then the solution is there and inexpensive.

    I hate big cameras

FWIW I do frequently see Amiras being used in that same NFL role at larger football (the real type ) events here in Europe. Its always single operator with assistant very much in the role of general helper (though his exact beverage dispensing duties remains unclear) and shooting what you would probably describe as cinematic ENG for want of a better description. CinENG as I'll now call it!
  3. There are plenty of ways to get HDMI out to a wireless viewable form on a tablet or phone. BM also provide full documentation to enable developers to create their own apps for remote control. So, with this camera at least, these aren't issues.
  4. Most Tascams are covered because they use the same remote port but I was just wondering if anyone has either of their wifi controlled models?
  5. Yeah, at least I don't have to waste any time on Roland it would seem ! Most of the Tascam ones can be controlled by the RC10 remote so thats all covered now, the SoundDevices stuff is too and the Zoom just seems to be done through voltage change so that won't be too much of a hardship. On the camera side its going to be LANC for Sony, Canon C series and BM, wifi for Panasonic, Bluetooth for new BM and probably some sort of simplistic shutter release type for Fuji, Nikon and Canon DSLRS. I just need to make it a bit smaller than the current prototype that you see me working on here.
  6. Unless its Cersei. No one is going to have the balls to tell Cersei to get off Snapchat
  7. I'd have no trepidation saying I was using such a fine piece of equipment ! It uses the same USB keyboard protocol as the MixPres so it would be able to be remotely started and stopped in sync with the BM camera.
  8. I have to say I was rooting for you for it being on the Atomos side as I'd imagine you'd get a better response time for a fix. I think Atomos is the currently the only game in town for recording DCI 4K60p as well so its not like you can switch to another recorder. Finger crossed they get back to you.
  9. Yes, thats right. Don't worry, its absolutely completely ON topic as finding the magic numbers that start and stop recording on the Marantz is exactly what I need as I don't have access to one
  10. Try something like this then to speed things up. Will step the voltage up every second. Change it if its too slow ________________________________________ // Zoom RC discovery using a PWM pin int PWMpin = 10; // Change this if using different pin void setup() { Serial.begin(19200); } void loop() { for (int i=0; i <= 255; i++){ analogWrite(PWMpin, i); delay(1000); //Vary this for faster stepping Serial.println(i); } }
  11. Excellent. I don't suppose you have an arduino do you?
  12. Thanks for this. Something caught my eye from an Amazon review of the remote regarding additional functionality which I suspect might give you a clue as to why you can get it to record and pause a recording but not do a full stop. If you add a potentiometer to your circuit you will probably be able to find that missing function
  13. Simulating the Marantz RC600 remote would be in order then. Did you use a regular 3 pole 3.5mm plug or a 4 pole as from what I can gather the RC600 uses a 4 pole ?
  14. This was with the non responsive to Canon C100 trigger thing in mind. And the non GH4/GH5 Lumix cameras that aren't listed on their compatibility list. I don't see any BMD cameras on there either, I don't suppose you'd happen to know if they work and are just not there because they haven't officially tested them?
  15. No problem, I can add support for the MicroBot button pusher. No, seriously, its an actual real thing!
  16. Quality of the mic pre-amps, more channels, dual level recording, compressors and all the other reasons you'd use an external recorder? The control box is attached to the recorder and speaks to the camera wirelessly (wifi on Panasonics and Bluetooth on the Pocket 2) so keeps you cable free if you have a dedicated sound recordist or the camera is on a gimbal and you want to keep the recorder off it. Yeah, the DR70 could do with a grown ups mode where phantom power can be switched on without it reacting like you want to put a toaster in the bathtub.
  17. That uses the RC10 remote so you are in luck and I can let you sync record/stop with your Pocket 2 when you get it. Not that us old fellas would ever need such a safety measure as we'd never forget to put the audio recorder into record would we <cough> Yep, that uses RC10 as well so it can be synced to the GX80 recording. The Saramonic is a maybe as something could be done via its headphone splitter.
  18. And if you have "Other" please let me know here in the thread Thanks
  19. I'm adding sync record to my hardware controller(s) so that when you press Record/Stop it will simultaneously start and stop both the camera and the external audio recorder so that you A) Don't have to do it yourself B) Have better matched files to make post sync easier (i.e. no bunches of 30 second video clips with only 1 long audio clip because you left it running) and, of course, C) So in the excitement of putting the camera in record you don't actually end up forgetting to put the audio into record . If you have any of the Tascam recorders that can be controlled with their RC10 wired remote then you are covered as I've just finished incorporating that already. For everything else, I'm just trying to gauge the popularity of them so I can prioritise them accordingly. At the moment, I'm just looking at ones that have a wired control input (tenuous but doable for SoundDevices and Roland) but IR isn't totally out of the question. If you have a few recorders then feel free to select them all. Thanks in advance.

    Lenses

Cokin do a little adapter to use their A series filters with compact cameras that might be come in useful for you for this problem. It attaches to the tripod mount of the camera and has various lanes you can put it in to move it front and back. I suspect it might not be long enough to put the filter far enough forward with those lenses but its trivial to extend it out with a piece of aluminium etc. A Series filters cover equivalent of up to 67mm filter thread so will be fine for anything up to there and the holder takes 3 of them. Obviously, once you have Cokin A series filters you get access not only to their workman stuff like NDs and grads etc but also to their classic 70s and 80s soft porn toolkits !
  21. A pair of the flat type over ear headphones with enough grunt could do the trick as well where you just cut the left one off with a pair scissors. We could market it as the Van Gogh solution.
  22. Oh, the internal speakers... [EDIT] Erases link to 3.5mm stereo to 2 mono jacks cable and inline attenuator. [EDIT] Though come to think of it you could fake it by using that cable to come out of the headphone socket (which I presume mutes the internal speakers) and then attach the right split to a tiny speaker.
  23. Yeah, it ends up with people having to remember loads of key combos like they're playing StreetFighter or Tekken ! I prefer discrete switches per function if possible. The ideal would be to have two rotary entry wheels like DSLRs on the index and middle finger positions for aperture and ISO. I think the record switch should actually be on the thumb position. I dunno. I've got the handle apart at least so thats progress !
  24. Wow, those type are usually $100 cheaper than that one! I'm looking to put quite a few more switches on so I'm interested in what people would find most useful. I don't want it to end up like an F1 steering wheel but I think Record One Shot AF Aperture Up Aperture Down ISO Up ISO Down WB (step through rather than up down) Would be a good starting point and not get too cluttered. Focus is maybe better as a different module. It would also incorporate sync record start of Tascam recorders and I'm looking at similar for the Zoom ones with wired remote too. Mainly got an eye on the Pocket 2 with this as well so it will likely be bluetooth for that one.
