FYI, the face ID failed in the keynote because the phone requires you to enter your passcode once a day.  They'd forgotten to set up the demo phone for the demonstration.  It wasn't actually a failure of face ID.

Yes I know most probably that was the lock after the first boot and it needed the pass key. We should wait and see how its going to be in real life, but still not a valid point! The thing is Apple is calling Touch ID to be a gold standard (They said it during the keynote) yet it fails to include it in it's flagship phone! The annoying thing is they don't believe on what they say either so why should I?.

Probably next year with more advanced technology they will bring back the Touch ID and will cook different story to cover this story.

P.S: I am not a Apple hater! I have both iOS and Android devices for my job. I just don't like it when they think we are stupid.

  2. After seeing all the keynote and seeing how that Face ID failed, right now I'm thinking more seriously about LG V30.

I don't need Face ID and I can't accept it that it is easier and more intuitive to use Face ID instead of Touch ID. Instead of spending millions on making emojis animated! they should have implemented that Touch ID somewhere in the phone!

  3. If you can stumble upon one yes, AMD Vega is better performer when it comes to computing tasks. But consider Vega's are going to consume more power (I don't know if matters to you) and because of cryptocurrency miners you might not be able to find any Vega with MSRP price.

  4. I have the very same card (128GB 1000x) and I had absolutely no issues with it ( Knock to wood). Most probably something else has messed up in the process of recording. I didn't see if you mentioned but did you try to see if GH5 can read or reformat it as well? Did you check your footage in the camera before taking the card out?

P.S: Lexar is owned by Micron Technology among worlds top memory producers.

I order a lot from them and they have very good customerservice but it seems that it takes longer to get new Panasonic camera's in stock, I ordered my g80 in October last year and they still have no stock of that camera. Not sure if they will have the same problems getting stock quickly from the GH5.

I preordered my G80 from CVP in October as well but I received it 8th December.

I cant believe 43rumors used the headline "The new G80 firmware doesn’t seem to fix the IS issue on all lenses" for that video. Anyone who's used a telephoto zoom with optical stabilisation has seen that "recoil"  effect. You can't expect a zoom of that range to be totally stable handheld. Ridiculous. I don't even have/intend to get the camera and I feel annoyed. Poor journalism and all that..

Exactly! as @jonpais said in the other topic:

43 Rumors posted a video showing that the IBIS still sticks when panning with the Leica DG Vario Elmar 100-400mm f/4.0-6.3 lens, but who cares - i'd never spend $1,800 for that crap lens anyhow. If I were a sports or nature photographer, I would however invest in the gorgeous Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 300 mm f/4.0 ED IS PRO, whose image stabilization reaches a remarkable 4.5-4.7 EV, according to LensTip.com.

Edit: I should add, in all seriousness, that a good tripod is worth its weight in gold, and I can highly recommend the iFootage Wild Bull T7 carbon fiber tripod. I've been using it for a while now, and it is sturdy as hell, handsome enough that it gets nods of approval from people on the street, and is able to handle up to 40 kg payload.

Quite a bit of difference in focal length. The 42.5mm is much more restrictive I'd say, but is great as a portrait lens for example. With 30mm you're in more of a general purpose area doing a bit of everything rather well. Both have a great look to 'em though, so I'd say mainly it's focal length you've got to think about. Don't actually know about the Sigma, but the Panasonic 42.5mm isn't too terrible to use for close up shots (macro) either. Plus, before we had OIS primes restricted to Leica, now there's Lumix ones, with OIS, including the 42.5mm, so that's a real blessing. If you have a 25mm already, maybe you can skip the 30mm for now and go for the 42.5mm. If you already have a 50mm, then maybe get the 30mm. All depends what you can use the most and lends itself for your kind of shooting.

Yes I do have the 25mm f1.7, thanks for the answer. as I don't have any lens in 40~50mm range I think also its logical to first go for 42,5mm. the 30mm one just have really good price and its quite fast lens, thats makes it tempting.

I've heard the AMD cards have a problem on hackintoshes in that they don't work on wake- they need a restart. I'd love for that not to be true, that's what I read on tonymacx86. The GTX 970 might be a solution, but it'll be outside my budget. Are you running the R9 280X? Can that handle 4k footage on the GX80?

Well for R9 280X the only downside after release of El Capitan is you will lose sleep/awake which the workaround would be disabling sleep for your system but not the monitor. If having sleep/awaking working properly is important for you, your only option is nvidia! 960 970 both should do fine. No I don't have it yet but soon, with PCPX considering you have i7 3770, should handle them (GX80) just fine.

  9. 28 minutes ago, John Matthews said:

Sure. It's an i7 3770 (not K), using HD 4000 integrated graphics (this is the problem). Recently, I upgraded the SSD to a 500gb Samsung 850 EVO. IMO the system needs a proper GPU. The 1050 is probably the one I can afford, but there still aren't any drivers for OSX yet. When I put it together 4 years ago (can't believe it's been that long!), I suspected it would last 5 years max, but I think I can get another 4 years if I put a good GPU in it. Thoughts?

It looks good, Im upgrading my CPU to core i7 4790K (hopefully will overclock it to 4.5) and also my GPU to an AMD card. If you are planning to use FCPX for editing I suggest to get an AMD card, the most recent one that works OOB is R9 280X, you can even find them second hand for 100~150€ if not AMD then probably GTX970 or GTX980. I don't think we would get support for 10xx series any time soon!

  10. 2 hours ago, John Matthews said:

I agree. I'm also using FCPX, but on a hackintosh. It also does very well with proxies, but I like to have WYSIWYG and it can't handle 4k until the 1050 or 1060 are supported in OSX. Also, proxies can take quite a bit of space; so, you need to work on fewer projects at a time. It works, but I would like a no-compromise system I guess.

Whats your hack's spec if I may ask?

Yeah, it's a bit unfortunate...Just when you thought Panasonic could do no wrong.  Maybe they should slow down.  This dual stabilization system looks unrefined.  Rushed.  I really hope they get the GH5 right.

I wonder what went wrong in production or whats the difference between G80 and GX85/80 as GX85/80 doesn't suffer from this issues!

at around 2:25 you can see the lens zoom is quite stiff, which is not ideal. At 5:20, he shows the thin paper bag the camera comes shipped in.

Well, I'm not planning to get the lens (I have preordered body only), and my G7 was exactly in same paper bag when I unboxed it can't see how that can cause an issues but I hope in case this issues is apparent in all G80's, firmware update would fix it otherwise thats not good!

@Hanriverprod Thanks for sharing the video. Several other users reported the same problem over at YouTube. I guess I'll hold off buying the G80/85. I was watching an unboxing video this afternoon, and the 12-60 zoom that came with the camera wasn't smooth, particularly around the 25mm mark. That's another reason I'd avoid Panasonic lenses altogeher, though the G80/85 looks like a great camera once they release a firmware update for the jerky behavior. In that same unboxing video, the reviewer showed how the camera appeared to be wrapped in a thin piece of paper, which made him wonder if it had been properly packaged. I hope your problem gets resolved.

Can you share the video link?

That sucks, I could pick one up within 10min if I wanted to.

Well yeah it sucks!, apparently here in Finland in some shops have it in stock! but I got a good deal from cvp! couldn't pass it, not to mention free battery grip if I manage to get it!
