How hard would it be to remove the block on the NX1 so that the Samsung Camera Manager app functions while using manual lenses? Would be great to have wireless live view while using non Samsung Glass. Thanks everyone!
BTW, for anyone interested in developing, I am posting the link for accessing all NX1 firmware files again for ease of access. I usually grant access pretty quickly when a request comes in. Access the files here: https://drive.google.com/a/cmcfirm.com/folderview?id=0Bwt0uzFgEoRkQ2ZLOUJOM295UGM&usp=sharing
The entire firmware history (v1.01, v1.10, v1.20, v1.21, v1.22, v1.30, v1.31, v1.32, and v1.40) for the NX1 is now archived in that link:
Happy to help and really am impressed by what you all have accomplished thus far!

Wouldn't that mean the nx500 4k at -10 sharpness doesn't have the oversharpemed look people talk about?

$1199
doubt it, but might also, later on, release a complete resolution mod à la my bitrate mod.

Riego, the solution would be having 6.5k video and then downsize it off camera with a tool of our choice.

regarding the sharpness: i'm starting to believe -10 = no post sharpening, like someone else suggested. i did some tests with many details and sharpening -10. i couldn't find any interpolated edge sharpening, which is usually visible by ringing artifacts. my consumption: the oversharpening some are seeing is a result of a downsampler, probably bicubic ... is there a way to change this? i don't know.

I really don't want to start a debate about Samsung so I am going to just say that that is your opinion and my opinion is that samsung makes many fantastic products with leading edge technology.
I also believe your statement about "Most of what they do is pretty shite or a sneaky copy of X" could be said about almost every company that has ever existed including apple, Cannon, Panasonic, Black Magic, etc. They all copy each other and they all make alot of shity products that is what competition is all about.

I am for MJPEG but imo, the noise reduction in video mode is far more important now as its completely cancerous. Its impossible to film above 800ISO in 1080p without having a video footage that looks like its from 1997.
2160p can do about 1600ISO before it looks awful, the NR seem to cause serious issues in destroying details in dark areas too. Which means you cannot underexpose at all before ending up with ruined images with lost details and the camera overexposes quite easily and balancing this literally requires a degree in science...

People asked about possibility to switch between EVF and LCD during video (apparently not working on NX1). Since I have NX500 I cannot really switch anything but what is described here works as described
st app bb [lcd|evf|tv][on|off|osd|video]
For example, to show only clean video on back LCD: st app bb lcd video
To show only OSD (without video): st app bb lcd osd
To turn it off completely: st app bb lcd off
To show everything as normal: st app bb lcd on
Now, someone with NX1 could try and report back if these things work and if this can solve the problem of switching the LCD/EVF during video.

This is still true. the final file HAS 180MBit/s so they ARE used. This is no fill up data or anything like this.... well i can't proof that, but i'm pretty sure there is no such thing as filling data in mp4 containers... only television packets use filling data because they have to use a defined constant data rate.
sorry, that was a lot of "filling data" but "filling data" is the only way i know to make bits disappear

resolution [show, name] means you can use resolution show or resolution name.
Presumably resolution show would list available names to be used as "name" parameter for resolution "name"

Here is comparison of hacked and non hacked 120 fps (200% zoom). There is quite big difference in terms of compression and details.
Problem is that hacked is just 106 fps according Premiere...
First is hacked and second normal:

1. read this: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5827.25
2. read this too: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=6278.0
3. format (in your PC) the SD card with larger block sizes
4. test
/done exfat test
5. If you are a Windows [the horror, the horror, I pity you] user, either go here: http://www.ext2fsd.com/ or here: http://www.paragon-drivers.com/extfs-windows/ [if you like proprietary stuff]
6. then format your SD card in ext4, without journal and with a largish block size (8192 or 16384)
7. test again
/done ext4 test
8. report back here
There, I just gave you a replacement for tonight's sleep :-), and therefore a chance to join me in missing sleep :-)
rgds
PS. I have high hopes for ext4 since it is a native Linux format whereas exfat is Microsoft and may well be implemented as a fuse filesystem which performs much much worse.

Has anyone tried to plug an external USB drive directly into the camera and mount it using telnet? I cannot find anywhere if the USB 3.0 on the NX1 is an OTG port.
I was planning on going to pick up a micro USB 3.0 to female type A and play around with it but if someone already has the required cables and knows more about Linux than me this would be alot faster. I would just be googling commands from the internet https://www.google.ca/search?q=how+to+mount+a+usb+hard+drive+in+linux&oq=how+to+mount+a+usb+hard+drive+in+linux&aqs=chrome.0.69i59l2.1280j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
The intended purpose would be for a program that would back-up all the contents of the SD card to an external drive. This would allow us to back-up our videos(a must with only 1 SD slot) without bringing a laptop to every outing.
