The a6300 firmware used in the test wasn't mentioned? In this test, firmware v1.10 (overheating fix) never overheated (over 2 hours of testing) when shooting in the shade at 26 degrees Celsius. (Still overheats on a hot day in direct sunlight):

Jpr got a reaction from AaronChicago in Fs700 / Ody7q+ worth it as a B-cam?
After trying both, went with the ursa. Amazing files. The fs700 is good no doubt but we already have an o7q+ for the fs5 and I really don't like how it feels in the hands. One day I might get it.

That would be great Ben, if you had some s log prores stuff that would be great too.

Aaron thanks, It doesn't look too big or heavy especially stripped down. I guess it comes down to price. 3.5k for fs700/o7q+ with all the trimmings, vs 4.3k for Ursa 4.6k, + batteries + cards + top rail and other bits needed (already own a viewfinder I could use on it) is 5k easily.

    1.     The ND filter density can now be adjusted automatically.
    2.     Shooting and recording in RAW mode is now supported. (“CBKZ-FS5RIF” (sold separately) is required)
    3.     The zebra function has been enhanced, allowing you to select two types of setting. Also, the level settings can now be adjusted in 1% increments.
    4.     You can now select the audio that is output in the headphones.
    5.     You can now acquire and record position information when shooting using the GPS function.
The long awaited auto ND feature is pretty amazing. It is very smooth and assignable so you can easily turn it off and on. When you turn it off the ND stays on the previous setting so no awkward blips. Very happy with this feature as an event/documentary shooter.
Can't wait to test the raw feature when its out.
This video I found shows the feature in action.
Being able to change the depth of field on the fly without exposure changing is pretty neat - I can see lots of uses for this again as an event shooter.

Jpr got a reaction from Nikkor in Meeting with Sony to discuss FS5 cinema camera improvements - optimised firmware available Friday 7am London time
Posted by a supposed in the know on Facebook today. Let's hope it's true? Please fs700 and not fs7 raw quality that would make this camera the absolute bomb.

I've bought/rented the a7s, a7sii, a7rii, fs5 and the fs7 recently. The only one I've kept is the fs7- with firmware 3.0 it feels finally like a finished product. I'm glad I didn't buy it when it first came out . It's a fantastic camera once you manage to understand the menus and overcome the ergonomics. The images are fantastic and xavc-I is a great codec in 10 bit.
The rest are good but just didn't seem to give me the performance for the money. I've actually really enjoyed using Panasonic cameras again because of the easy to use menus, touch screens etc. They seem to have a similar concept as canon - obviously they don't have anything to really compete with a c100 but their prosumer range is very good for the money.
Unfortuantely my clients require/love slow mo or I would be all over the canon cinema line. Give me a c200 with 1080p, 120fps, 10 bit and the ergonomics of the c100 and I'd happily pay £5000-6000 for it. The 1dxii looks great but I really need nds, xlrs etc too .

Jpr reacted to BrooklynDan in a7r ii nothing but headaches.
I use the Sony A7RII (as well as the Panasonic GH4) at work every week.
Fact: My personal Canon C100 eats it for breakfast when it comes to motion cadence, rolling shutter, color science and overall cinematic quality. The 4K cameras might be sharper, but only by a little, and at the end of the day, resolution is the spec that matters to me least. All the fancy tech and high-power processing in the world doesn't matter if the image isn't pleased. And I mean pleasing right out of the camera, not pleasing after several hours in DaVinci resolve wrestling with SLog. Super flat profiles work great for RAW or 10 or 12-bit RGB video. For 8-bit compressed codecs, it's generally better to have a strong REC.709 image right off the bat.
Also, the A7RII overheats after about 10 minutes of recording. Not great for interviews or long takes.
The sad thing is, once upon a time, Sony had a magical camera called the F35, which had more mojo than anything this side of the Arri Alexa. And as much as people love to chalk it up to the CCD sensor, much of that same silky cinematic quality trickled down to the CMOS-carrying Sony F3, which as other people have pointed out, continues to be a beast of a camera, especially at the low, low prices that it now sells for. But somewhere along the way, Sony switched directions and decided to go for brute-force processing power and crazy specs, rather than real cinematic image quality. And as a result, while they have gained tremendous ground at the consumer and prosumer levels, they have ceded the high-end to Arri and Red. I have a lot of friends in rental houses and they clue me in as to what is going out most often:
    1. Most people hire Alexas.
    2. Can't afford Arri? Go for a Red.
    3. Can't afford Red, but still need 4K? Sony, it is.
    4. Don't need 4K? Have a Canon C300.

Wow..I was deadset on the a6300 as my b and c cam, but that g7. For £350 used, can pick up 2 and change for the price of an a6300 here.

I use the cheaper Sony/zeiss lenses like 55 1.8 when I want AF and then use all manual Contax zeiss . Cheaper and amazing quality. For £1000 I have 55 1.8 zony, cy 28 2.0, cy 85 2.8, cy 100-300 f4-5.6. Stunning glass that works on my nx1 too (when not using 16-50s).

I ordered a DS1 a while ago and hoping it will arrive very soon. I'll give a short review on how I get on with it. It seems to be the real deal but will need some testing.
