I am wondering what the "unknnown" is...EF?!
@kinoseed  @Otto Actually, we were talking for getting a crop in NX1, NOT get rid of the crop in NX500. If you have a crop option in NX1 is like having 2 primes with one. Also, there is a variable scanning option in LS300 sensor, so from the 4K full sensor read out, you can zoom in (for full HD only ofcourse) and it is quite impressive, I have tested with Zeiss and Leica and the results are impressive, is like having a few small Leica zooms!
Now with the GH5 out we have to up our game!
Some times like these I regret quitting programming for work!

The first video from this shoot is now live. Check it out for a point of reference.
    Concealed Carry Belts:
Please forgive some of the camera shake... I was testing out a dual camera rig. Although it got the job done, the rig needs improvement and... more importantly, I need more skill wielding it. Between the two cameras here I was able to cover most of my mistakes and got some interesting Dutch Angles. The NX1 was simply mounted to a magic arm off the rails.
The tighter shot was the BMCC 2.5K with the 50mm F/1.4 Super Takumar and a cheap speed booster. Stopped down to about F2. With the backlighting it was flare-tastic! ... I should have put on the matte-box, but we were in a hurry.
The wider shot was the NX1 with the MIR 37mm at somewhere around F4. Somehow, although Sang and Mickey where standing next to each other, I really only managed to get Sang on the left in focus. That's user error. I tried to cover the mistake up with Luma Sharpen in Resolve... good enough.
    ---
Alright, lets try picking up where I left off. Grading...
The Samsung cameras put out a solid image with plenty of detail as you would expect. I used Andrew Reid's Flat LUT on the front end in Resolve as I was setting levels. After that I dropped on Hook's Luma Sharpen... and then the Super Film Stock powergrade from Color Grading Central (oddly I don't see his Luster Grades pack for sale online anymore). I've been using that same powergrade since the beginning Carry Trainer videos. Lastly, from there I tweaked the base colors on the levels layer... nudging the reds and blues a little to my taste.
Coming out of Resolve, I rendered the video in uncompressed 10-bit 4k for finishing on Sony Vegas Pro and final output to YouTube. Vegas is much nicer for audio... and it's just what I'm use to. In case your curious, the opening was done with some simple shots feed into the Prolost Handcrank plug-in in After Effects.
It could just be the lenses, but I did like the image from the BMCC better even though it had less resolution 2.5k vs. 4k, but with 4:2:2 maybe that's debatable. 12-bit RAW still has it's advantages. They were both good, but the BMCC just looks richer with it's own kind of film grain. Once my NXL speed booster arrives, I'll try using the same 50mm Super Takumar 1.4 on both cameras. With the variation in sensor sizes, that should work-out perfectly and be a better grounds for comparison... As you can probably tell that's my favorite lens these days.
Meanwhile, with my amateur shoulder shooting I could definitely see jello issues with both sensors.
The thumbnail/cover image for the youtube video was a Macro shot with my my NX1 and the Canon FD 35-70 Macro zoom. I had the belts inside one of those light tents common for product photography.

The S lenses are the best AF lenses on the NX ecosystem, the 85 is one of the slowest, especially if you go fast. Quite a big lens, too much glass inside, old design, I wouldn't expect any better. Change the AF speed (I do not own this lens, I do not know), and see how it goes.
From time to time I have to work with 5Diii's and I can't stand the image anymore.
I am joking about Vasile, he did great for the whole community, but there are people like Otto and Kino Seed that did much too (if not more) and there are still around for a word or two!
I believe Otto was the last one had some kind of communication, I can not be sure of course.

What was the lightning conditions where you filmed and what kind of ISO did you use? I find that the camera really struggles at higher ISO's with autofocus in video mode for no reasons whatsoever, in very very poor lighting conditions it struggles with focusing specially with soft textures, at 1.4 aperture I would not really recommend to use autofocus with any camera.

SMGJohn got a reaction from lucabutera in nx1 picture turns green during video recording
This looks like an issue that can rarely occur when sensor has been hit by a green laser or something equally strong, please note that it may not be your case but I read about people who had this issue after having their camera being hit by a green laser accidentally and killed their R and B channels or damaged them.
Please try this without the auto white balance to see if it may be an issue with the white balance going haywire which can also be the case.
It can also be sensor manufacturing faults, it can happen if they did not properly construct the sensor damaging the R and B channels specially if they are not connected properly they just randomly turn on and off.

So far the best hack that I have used is the good old Vasile's NX1 & NX500 Pro Bitrate Adjustment v5.3 as its the quickest of them all and according to Vasile the safest.
The Kino Seed hack is feature rich however, its got a lot of features most of them are photo oriented but its the slowest one and its the only one still in development.
I do not use it because most of its features are pointless for me and its slow on startups, it takes time before it activates like a few seconds for me its not good enough as I need quick speed all the time.
Stability wise I cannot really tell the difference between either, people seem to have more luck than me getting high bitrate to work, I am stuck with 140mbps or 150mbps no matter what card I use even the fastest SD card in the world still wont let me do more than 160mbps until it tells me the card is too slow.
I think it has to do with the autofocus using processing power, if you turn the autofocus off however you can do pretty high bitrates.
Uninstallation wise? Both are very easy, Vasile's hack is definitely harder to install and requires patience but the Kino Seed is quick and painless definitely the easiest to use out of any of them.
Early on in the development there were a few bricked cameras however Samsung fixed them for the users, Vasile and Kino put safety measurements into place after this and while I had freezes a very rare moment, nothing serious other than that.
Quality wise there is a difference, but do not expect RAW video quality, grade wise I would also say there is a difference however again both cameras are pretty terrible at high ISO in video so keep it below 800 in 1080p and below 2000 ISO in 2160p and you should get pretty good results with the hack, the NX500 with the 1440p mode has no noise reduction, I had good results with that at 3200ISO.
I run test of 160mbps no autofocus or stabilisation to see how long the camera recorded, it recorded for 70+ minutes before the camera refuses to record more even with unlocked timer, not quite sure why but it recorded for 3 days straight in MJPEG and no overheating issue if you plug the camera into the wall.
Only complaint I have is Kino Seed hack being slow at startups, and Vasile hack being slightly silly to install at first try, other than that they are definitely worth it and will give more life into your camera.

Kino, I wouldn't need encryption as well. Rather I'd kill for the 4k cropped video option from nx500 to be implemented in nx1...any chance for this?

Camera shuts down when it gets too hot, I tested this by simply turning down the number for when it should shutdown in case of overheating with that Dev menu you can access with 1.40 and below.
Yes a shame no one tries to unlock even more or hack it for real like magic lantern, but there a huge amount of great cameras coming in 2017 effectively making it pointless to hack the NX1 unless you really want to as a side project or something.
Strange how no one from Samsung camera department has leaked any developers tool

120-140-160 I believe is best for hard disk drive space/camera heating (mine gets really warm)-sensor annihilation/file problems created. For casual use and time long projects I do not even bother.
Otto is Gandalf the Grey, Kino Seed is Frodo Baggins, and Vasile was that human Boromir(?) that his pride and recklessness made him vurnable to the Ring's power. He also dies at the end of the first movie! The pitty is, we need more allies from the elves and dwarfs, for Otto the White evolution, and the lonely Kino hobbit carry the ring further; so maybe there wont be 2 or 3.
