  1. Thoughts on picking up a Acer TC780 with an i5-7400 prorocessor then upgrading to 16 gb of ram, SSD and. 1050ti? They are going really cheap at $300 or even less. I could possibly be out $500 if I played my cards right. Would this be an upgrade from my current system and capable of handling a6500 footage?
  2. @kidzrevil I’ve now shot two projects both involving outdoor 90+ degree heat and knock on wood I haven’t seen any overheating! IBIS seems to work best for me when I shoot using the EVF to my eye. If I have the luxury of resting my arms on something it’s dang near tripod like. I echo your above sentiments
  3. I stand corrected! $1799. A bit more affordable..
  4. Soooo anyone check the new MacBook pros? 15inch is wayyyy out of my price point!! Shame they can’t put at least a quad core in the 13” model
  5. @Shirozina might need to try this as well. Others have suggested EditReady doesn’t affect quality I thought. But hey not tied to either methods. Just can already tell having shot a few videos on my new camera I’m def gonna have to go the extra mile to maximize the old laptop I have.
  6. Would transcoding my A6500 footage to prores make it easier on “ancient” 2012 i7 with a crappy 650 graphics card?
  7. If you’re in the 800 range my a6500 was rated at excellent condition and is basically new from Adorama. Cost $869. 4K downscaling to 1080p takes one setting change in premiere. Super easy. Maybe you can rent an a7mkii somewhere?
  8. For what it’s worth, I just cut a four minute video of a6500 4K and 1080 120fps footage on a 2012 15” Retina MacBook Pro i7 w/8gb ram and a nvidia 650. Of course I downscaled the 4K to 1080. This machine edits ok but color grading is rough!! (Old gpu, only 8gb ram).
  9. @andrew_reid Just bought the Pro Color & Log bundle for my A6500! Camera arrives tomorrow and I couldn't be more stoked. Will post some stuff here once I get some time with it. Lens kit includes a Sony 35mm 1.8 and 2 Nikon primes. Coming from a D5300 I can't wait to be using a camera more suited towards video. I"ve read the PDF and can't wait man.
  10. I mostly try things out on the job. Just forces you to learn better in my experience
  11. @DBounce I felt they did a fantastic job here. This might be my favorite film they’ve done yet. This short could definitely be expanded into a full film, at least I would see it.
  12. @webrunner5 It does seem fairly easy! Question to you: with the 8 different PP it comes with, Caleb mentions these are just examples. Essentially, can’t I tweak all of these? For example, have PP1, PP2 be two my slog 3 and a less flat profile etc. So in sum are the PP’s just slots for 8 picture profiles that you can then tweak to your liking?
  13. @IronFilm I figured heck 30 day return policy thats MUCH more reliable than an eBay rando-seller. Couple things: I've received my dumb adapter and I have to say it looks fairly quality for being $17. Going to be trying a 28mm on it first. I also purchased Caleb Pike's at DSLR VIDEO SHOOTER's a6500 guide and it has given me a much better run-down on how the camera works. I figure it's like having a video version of the manual. Has me pumped for its Tuesday arrival! Finally, I won the Sony 35mm 1.8 OSS prime on eBay. (Wasn't much of a hassle). I've been pouring through recommended color profiles/settings and will likely be purchasing Pro Color 3.0 / Pro LOG Bundle as well! Can't wait to open up new filmmaking possibilities that just weren't possible with the Nikon D5300. Just wanted to say thanks everyone for the advice in leading up to this purchase. Hopefully after playing with my setup for a bit I'll have some footage to share in the coming weeks.
  14. @webrunner5 @newfoundmass Good deal! Yup bought plenty both just never bought a used camera only a refurb. I’m sure it will be in great condition and honestly for the price I paid, a scratch here or there is fine with me!
  15. Body arrives Tuesday, new 128gb memory card, wasabi battery pack and dummy lens adapter arrives tomorrow and hopefully new lens I’m bidding on, the Sony 35mm 1.8 OSS will arrive this week. Has anyone else purchased used cameras from Adorama? Like I said my last was a refurb and basically brand new, this camera is rated in excellent condition. Just curious. Really just figured if anything it was worth it to buy from a physical store with an actual return policy that way I wouldn’t be stuck trying to flip it if I got a bad copy.
  16. @canonlyme I will def give it a shot as soon as I have the funds. I am loving though, the thought that I’m not tied into nikons eco system any longer. With my 9-5 ever busy I don’t have as much time to shoot as I used to so I’m thinking this should be a solid setup for my needs
  17. @Mark Romero 2 I currently own 2 e series primes- the 28mm 2.8 and a 50mm 1.8. On my Nikon fe2 I absolutely love the 28 and prior to the tamron 17-50 it was my main prime for a year. I wanted to try a speedbooster but that will have to wait as my funds are now tapped out Currently bidding on a 35mm 1.8 as an all arounder. I also own an Olympus Zuiko 50mm 1.8 I have on an Olympus om2n body at the moment. Lovely lens
  18. Yeah idk what I’m going to do for a “kit lens” lol. Might pick up a kit lens on the cheap for that wide 18mm.
  19. @Mark Romero 2 Thanks man! I have purchased a two pack of the wasabi batteries with the dual charger so I’ll have three including the kit. Also went ahead and jumped up to a 128gb memory card. Since the camera is at 4-6 day shipping I’m still deciding on what to get lens wise. The camera was $869 so that’s put me quite ahead on my budget. With the accessories I’m only at $968 so I’m gonna pick up a dumb $17 adapter on amazon for the Nikon primes (speedbooster later) and one lens. From here I’ll probably save and maybe get the 18-105 f4 but we’ll see how well I like manual land now that I have some ibis!
  20. Final update here: I've purchased a used "Excellent Condition" Sony A6500 from Adorama. Saved a couple hundred bucks from new price. Funnily enough, I bought my current camera, a d5300 refurb from Adorama. With a 30 day return policy I'm going to give it a go. Settling on the 35mm 1.8 OSS Sony and a Lens Adapter for my two Nikon Primes. Should be a fun next couple of weeks!
  21. There’s a kit for sale on eBay - used a6500, 32gb San dusk extreme pro, sigma 30mm 1.4, batteries for $1295. Minus the memory card pretty much what I plan to try. Also seller says “batteries will be similar to pic”...sketchy even with a decent 100% rating lol.
  22. @BTM_Pix so what is your overall assessment then- general use pretty good? I’m totally fine with the occasional missed grab as it is AF. When I tested the 18-135 on the a6300 the other day at the store, I set it on af-c with face priority and it was very accurate. Focused on anything I wanted it to. Thats basically why I was considering that was even though it’s not a first party lens it seemed to be getting some good reviews. As long as it can hang most of the time I’d consider it. @Mark Romero 2 Holy crap man- doing the hard work for me, thanks! And to answer that last bit- I’d rather stay as portable as possible. Maybe a cage but that would be it only if I NEEDED to rig it up for a gig.
  23. @Mark Romero 2 Regarding Christian Matte, I believe he is back on Sony, mentioned in a live stream it was too heavy for his style. Back on the a7iii as seemingly every other YouTuber is at the moment. Man have you guys given me stuff to think about. The a6500 / G85 have my attention. I will need to make a chart and figure out which one makes more sense.
  24. @mercer yep, he’s one of my favorites!
  25. @jonpais I’ve seen several YouTubers raving over that one. It seems it works just fine in Sony e mount? I could be wrong though, just looks pretty sharp and I dig the focal length
