  1. What's the difference in this one and the ultra? Will both get me closer to the 35mm look? http://www.metabones.com/products/details/MB_NFG-m43-BM1
  2. I misread this! Thanks! So does it matter which speedbooster I need? I just re-read Andrews review and it sounded like he picked up the Xl which is $450 a bit out of my budget. I would already be stretching to get the g85 because I'm going to keep my d5300 for stills/b cam.
  3. I hate to be that guy but can someone explain again the main difference in the canon and Nikon speedbooster? Is it primarily aperture and auto focus control being that Nikon will not get auto focus back? I have a Nikon e series 28mm, 50mm 1.8 and a modern tamron 17-50 f2.8. I'm trying to decide if my minimal lens collection warrants staying Nikon or if I would be better off just getting the body and a 50 mm Panasonic equivalent native and building from there.
  4. Thanks guys! Any reason my video didn't post with the playable thumbnail? It always has before?
  5. Had about an hour tonight so I made this and edited in an hour. Shot on the D5300 in Portrait with the Tamron 17-50 f2.8. Manual Focus. 24 fps and some 60fps. Always fun when I have the chance to do a speed shoot/edit. Happy Holidays! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-8UQoDnGi4&feature=youtu.be
  6. Made a 30 second holiday quick flick for fun tonight since I had 30 minutes. Edited it in 30 minutes as well for an hour total. Always fun. Love the nikon colors and the ease of depth of field. Shot on Portrait and straight out of camera. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-8UQoDnGi4&feature=youtu.be
  7. What would be my cheapest route to convert the tamron f mount 17-50 f2.8? I actually have a decent kit of vintage primes as I shoot 35mm film and have a few different film cameras. Vintage lenses I could convert include a Olympus OM 50mm 1.8 (fantastically sharp on film anyways), Nikon E Series 28mm 2.8 and 50mm 1.8. Not sure how much the 5axis stabilization would help but surely I could use these until I could by a Panasonic lens. Also not sure if I'd want a speed booster/focal reducer? I know the Panasonic prime 1.7's are fairly cheap at under $200.
  8. @webrunner5 yup I had seen that comparison! TBH it was pretty sweet!! Sure I was able to pick out the difference on some of the clips but to the average eye that will bring you back down to reality lol. I doubt the seller will accept my offer on this but I'm definetly thinking about moving some things around to get this kit.
  9. Right I agree 100%. I know how to use my d5300 to get good results but I'm at a point where I've actually outgrown it. I don't see any point in buying 2-300 shoulder rig or even a cheap steadicam if for a little more I can get some of this new tech that makes our job as filmmakers a tad easier. I can do a good job with the d5300/17-50 combo but I'm ready for a new challenge so yes I agree.
  10. Just put in a low ball offer on eBay for one. If I get it I will consider that a win. Will probably start saving up the Christmas money so I can purchase a good used g85 body/lens and somethinf like the lens turbo for the tamron. I don't need 10 Bit of the GH5 and it seems this camera is everything I need in a camera right now. STILL looking forward to the manfrotto grip
  11. Thanks for the lowdown! I figure for $30 might make me keep the Nikon a little longer for video. (Good enough for me on photos). I've been looking today at the Panasonic GX85 or G85 and they are looking strong as a possible replacement. I could live with the lack of a flat profile and mic input in the GX to gain IBIS and crisper 1080p (4K downscaled). My shooting is mainly personal enjoyment and usually ends up online at most. I've seen a few on eBay in the 250-300 price range used. I'd obviously have to invest in some glass but at $400 or less used that's about what I paid for my refurb d5300 a few years ago. I'm a bargain shooter.
  12. Ordered the Evo 2! Can't wait to try
  13. Thanks for the link man! I apologize for the confusing post but to clarify, I do already have a tripod and monopod, I'm just looking for an almost pocket rig or something small enough to fit in a camera bag that will take away some of the shakiness on my handheld. That tripod looked nice and lightweight though! Appreciate it! @jonpais one more stupid question...it says it supports 2.2 lbs, would this one be more suited to my big tamron zoom? Or would the first one be just fine. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?A=details&O=&Q=&ap=y&c3api=1876%2C{creative}%2C{keyword}&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIm52hweCT2AIVErnACh09YgHAEAQYEiABEgIyHfD_BwE&is=REG&m=Y&sku=1178734
  14. Thanks @jonpais. It's certainly the route I'd like to go. For the current term I was hoping that manfrotto might take some shakiness out of handheld if I kept it close to my body? i have a decent bento monopod but for handheld run n gun/family videos when I just wanna shoot it's not as ideal. Think this will do the trick in the near term?
  15. Love my Nikon D5300, hate that it doesn't have a stock flat profile, I have shaky hands and prefer to shoot without a rig so I'm really wanting a camera with 5-Axis stabilization. Autofocus isn't necessary. These two have my eye: the G85, Sony A6500. I plan to shoot 4K to downscale to 1080p and i would have to pick up a lens either way as I'm on a Nikon system. I'm not horribly invested at the moment in it just the d5300 and a tamron 17-50 f2.8. Maybe $600 in street value. I plan to keep it for stills though. I know of the above cameras both have ibis and I'm leaning towards whatever is cheapest used. I've been looking on eBay and there are a few g85 bodies that run as low as 4-500 us. I wasn't keen on going to micro 4/3 but for that price what else can I get? Additionally, I would keep my existing rig going if I could find a good portable rig to hold my d5300. I see youtuber's use gorilla pods and mini tripods, would that really do a decent job if I tucked it in my arm like a shoulder rig? I want better handheld that looks stabilized without having to carry a monopod or a tripod or some big ole rig. So part two of this post is really, would a mini tripod like the manfrotto do the trick I'm needing? (Would be way cheaper than buying a new camera...) edit: for the manfrotto mini tripod as a rig I was referring to this: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?A=details&O=&Q=&ap=y&c3api=1876%2C{creative}%2C{keyword}&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIuoGhi9iT2AIVkrfACh3gsgRxEAQYASABEgIYtPD_BwE&is=REG&m=Y&sku=983551
  16. As a D5300 (5200 a year before that) owner for the past 3 years, I agree. It produces a good image and is certainly a capable camera (depending on the context) but it does lack a lot of the cool refinements that have come up in recent years...stock flat profile, 120fps slo mo, and of course no luck on the video AF, at least for me. But it does have a nice look to it if your just shooting for YouTube, or basically anything where 1080p plus isn't required. I will likely upgrade in the next year to something else. I've been toying with swapping it for a d5500 (both about the same price used) just to try the stock flat profile against flaat 11 which I use. But even then...
  17. I was browsing fleabay and noticed a few had gone for US 800 range. Which bugs the question, in the 800-1000 range is the A7S Mk1 still competitive? Just curious on your thoughts! it's fun searching eBay/Craigslist for good cameras at very nice prices.
  18. Hope everyone is having a good thanksgiving week! (American folks anyways). I am pumped to get home and try out the Nikon 85mm 1.8G I rented from LensPro for a super nice price with a holiday discount. Anyone here ever shot this lens? I'm shooting still on the d5300 and rented it for some nice family portraits but hopefully I'll shoot some video with it as well. Do wish it had VR. I have read this lens is supposed to be fairly sharp. Anyways just wanted to try something new. Thoughts on this lens guys?
  19. Anyone see this? Anything to get excited about/does this mean anything? https://nikonrumors.com/2017/08/03/new-nikon-multi-pixel-pdaf-sensor-patent.aspx/
  20. Owni a 2012 MBPr that has a known motherboard issue (gets hot way too easy) and gets the job done but is starting to show its age. As much as I love Mac OS I think either a hackintosh or a windows build is in the next year for me. I use premiere pro so I guess I'd have to use intel but the Ryzen chips look sweet! Wouldn't spend more than 1k
  21. So what's the consensus on this? $4k ish for 4K, finally 1080p 120fps slow mo, Ibis, full frame sensor.. still not Sony/canon level continuous auto focus right? For that price you could buy 2 g85/a6300 plus lenses. I do love my Nikon though and can't imagine how detailed 40+ mgpixel stills would be
  22. Cancelled my order... used the neck strap + Warp stabilized last time and it did help it's just tough to see focus. But I thought about it and I don't shoot enough to warrant buying that I'd rather save my money for a better camera altogether i.e. Gh5/Olympus om2/a6500/g85 etc
  23. @BTM_Pix man I forgot about that, certainly looks cool but again a little more than I wanna commit to! @jonpais yep same one! Figured what the heck, cheap and good reviews. i will try to post footage when I have the time. Should at least help a tad bit even when using warp stabilizer and I think it will rig the camera up a bit better to feel how I want it to! Do you have footage you can link to?
