Canon EOS R5 / R6 overheating discussion all in one place
zerocool22 replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
The canon R5 manual does state that the camera does not overheat in 4K 30fps (not high quality). Was anybody able to verify this already? As this solves my problem atleast. Also how to record audio on this thing? Like a xlr mkh-416, run it through a zoom h6 and then in the minijack? That is one thing sony did a great job on though with their A7S III and the S1H as well, too bad canon didnt think this through.. -
I guess Sony gave the camera to the wrong people then. Cause all the footage out there atm is mediocre.
-
I know I should not compare it to an arri alexa. But dang I just wish these companies could get arri style colour in an affordable package in 2020. The alexa is 10 years old, and these japanese companies dont come anywhere close to its image or colours 10 years later, in tech years thats ages. Sony had great colour on the F35, so not sure why they have not matched it 10 years later.

Yeah would not be surprised if the camera doesnt actually overheat, but canon just programmed it this way to not mess around with their C line. If so magic lantern could perhaps chime in, allthough they havent done anything new in a couple of years.

Canon EOS R5 / R6 overheating discussion all in one place

DR should be tested with the clog3 update. But sony could still have more DR, as that is one area where they are ahead of the competition, so would be surprised if canon out of the blue came up with a new 8K sensor that trumps even sony's sensors. -
Hopefully somebody can test the AF with EF lenses.
-
If a miracle happens and the R5 overheating gets fixed, looks like the R5 is the way to go.
-
Was just expecting way more. This is just competing with the S1H that is already released a year ago, you would think they would crush the S1H. People are still wondering now if they should get an A7S III or an S1H, then its a sad release for me. Hopefully some good news will follow soon. Looks like the ump 12K is by far the most interesting camera this year (not talking about the resolution).
-
A7S III is hugely underwhelming for me as well. Only good improvement I see is the XLR addon that you can buy. But waiting on some other footage, as the footage from b&h looks like 720p, so can't derive any IQ from that.
-
Actually large files (uncompressed) are a lot easier to edit. Its the compressed codecs with smaller files that are hard to edit as your computer needs to decompress them each time.
-
Good that the menu has somewhat improved. Don't see any anamorphic mode on this either, or its buried in the menu's somewhere. I hope the A7S iii has better IQ then the pocket 6K, cause the S1H did not, the R5 no idea yet.
-
Yeah but I am afraid I Am not rich enough for Arri stuff 🙂
-
Well its not the same light, but the skintones on the image on the left do look way better. Ha so confused with the camera options out right now, atleast of of those guys should have a r5, s1h, pocket 6k, f6 to do some side by sides...

Canon EOS R5 / R6 overheating discussion all in one place

This overheating is worse then I expected if you shoot photo's for an hour, you cant shoot any video anymore. Whut. In that case the camera is only for personal clips I guess, lets see how the tilta cooling performs. Anyhows we know the overheating problem is there and it sucks, but can we look into the other features of the camera. Like DR, highlight rolloff, rolling shutting, the ibis wobble. Strange that nobody did some comparison shots yet with other camera's like the S1H, pocket 6K(yes I know not full frame), F6, kinefinity mavo lf, c500 II. -
Well another solution is to buy 2 :). As A-cam and B-cam.
-
I only shoot short clips, 10 second clips. B-roll for corporate video's mainly and social media branding video's. But def want to use it on personal projects as well, and I can also see myself using it for narrative stuff as well like short films. For the last year I have shot nothing else then braw, as its as easy to edit as prores but impossible to miss whitebalance.
-
well at 12:1 compression not sure how much more data we are talking here vs the pocket 6K's braw.
-
If this turns out to be true, im ordering one!
-
Wow if this would come true, this would be the best news this year.

Canon EOS R5 has serious overheating issues – in both 4K and 8K
zerocool22 replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Well we need some side by side videos shot at the same time with the current new cameras so we can compare more efficiently, you really cant compare cameras between different videos. -
Maybe drilling some holes in it will resolve the issue. Allthough it wont be weatherproof anymore.
-
Low light is indeed very good. But not sure if there is a huge market for party/concert videographers. I would be fine with a clean 100- 3200. Mostly sit around 800 anyway, any higher the dynamic range begins to fall off fast. Im gonna invest in more lights this year and 1 hybrid camera (r5, s1h, a7siii waiting on some side by side footage, as I dont have any shoots planned for the time beeing)
-
But why would you get it over the a7 iii which is already quite old and a lot cheaper.

Wondering if they will cut the price a bit soon due to tje bad press. Allthough the clog3 and more compression options are very welcome and at this point needed before I buy one. -
Will it have an anamorphic mode? Seems like canon and sony are really forgetting about that one, shouldnt that be that hard to implement. And is quite big of a deal for music video, film and commercial shooters. (And bm is delevering that in 1k cameras)
