  1. Thanks
Thomas Hill got a reaction from Drew Allegre in Audio for talking heads - on a budget??
Just to throw another affordable option out there, I used this Shure not too long ago. It was set-up 24 to 36 inches from the actress and, without being an "audio guy" at all, I was very pleased with the low self-noise and sensitivity.

    Beautiful! Is this Standard SOOC?
I really dig the colors/look of this one. Is it standard, too?
You and Kidz have me seriously thinking about a 6500.

When not challenged by very high DR, I prefer Standard. But, what do I know?

It all depends on the story. Once you have it as tight as possible, is it a 30-40 minute story or is it a 15 minute story?

wow hockey youre so smart... thats some food for thought. thank you, ill mull it over
tbh this is exactly what the sum total of my knowledge after trying to learn about this stuff for the last ten years has led me to believe, thank you for CONFIRMING all that. seriously. what do i know? fookin nuthin (conor mcgregor)
i have all kinds of vision. i want to talk with these people so i can convince them to love me. its absolutely key to my master plan.
i have a fine art practice which im currently starting to reach out to galleries about – but those doors are not open. call up blum & poe and ask if you can email them your work. theyll say no. you have to shmooze your way into these circles, and unfortunately
i fucking hate stuff like that, it feels SOOOooo disingenuous, like im not here to be your friend im here to sell myself, and im pretending im not, and it seriously makes me want to puke. im terrible at stuff like that. on the other hand, in a meeting that people actually want to have with me its quite the opposite, im delightful. but on a certain level i am shy, im an introvert, although you might not think so based on some of my work
yes!! thats my thing tho im trynna draw that grand idea out over the next 20 years. im saving all my best ideas for
    (a) later
    (b) when my agents at CAA wanna kno what my plans are for the future
i remember reading about kevin smiths meetings in hollywood after making clerks, and if im not mistaken he was borderline offered superman, and he couldnt say yes, as much of a comic nerd as he is, he couldnt do it~! he didnt have the skills. and ive thought a lot about taking advantage of such opportunities
    great analogy ?
right! so what is that commodity...? ?
    im with you, tim

I'm just finishing up the edit on my 4th no budget film, made with no help.. money isn't the issue, I need people. The other day I was like, "Ooo, what if I had 20 million dollars??" Well.. nothing would be different career-wise.
I love that Channel 101 was brought up here. Seems like the opposite of eoshd. I usually get a response of general disinterest and then, "You need better sound." Coolthanks... I should have written it wih better sound. Less of an issue with those guys.

I cant remember why I stopped using it, but I remember commenting something about it around here on the NX1 thread.
I wouldnt recommend the DIS, it might be usefull for some occasions, but more often than not it would ruin the image.

Heres some NX1 footage if you're interested, almost everything in my channel is from the NX1.

A skilled person can make the Sony cameras sing, but having been a user of Sony for years, there is definitely something about their colour that isn't quite right, especially the mirrorless range.
White balance on the A7 series does not work properly. I have an A7SII and I'm forever tinkering with white balance on set. It's never quite right and is what I believe many users are getting very wrong, hence all the very poor "sickly" footage out there with "bad" colour science. FS7 and upwards are vastly superior and are pleasant to use (for colour). Bit muted and cold in the spectrum, but very nice indeed.
Canon DSLRs have a very punchy, yet pleasing colour rendition. Cinema EOS are fantastic and generally beautiful. They offer a quick road to pleasing colour. I do like how you can pick more of a look with the Sony cams, as Canon seems more baked and stubbornly accurate. It depends if you are willing to do more of the work in post (which I personally enjoy).
It's all subjective though. Whatever camera is best for the job and best for you is the way to go. Not what the Internet says is the best. The 80d will be best for many.

Good Movie. I especially loved Goodman's F.U. money speech.
If you haven't seen it, check out the original with a young James Caan.
