Liam reacted to AaronChicago in Should I switch from Lumix Micro Four Thirds line to Sony AR7 II?
I'm sure this crew said they wanted IMAX and couldn't afford it. Had to settle on Super 16mm. Amateurs.

You do realize that I know that there is no way you could ever know that, right?
BTW. Have you seen the thread here on this forum posted today where one of our fellow members is looking for a small sensor camcorder so he can get deep depth of field. Maybe you should go there and talk him into a a7S

Nor can you achieve the DOF, Extreme Tele of MFT on a FF format. Different tools with ups and downs to both.
I mostly use large sensors for stills and then its Full Frame that has a weird crop factor, difficulty to achieve wide angle and need super fast glass to get any sort of SDOF.
I shoot Medium Format, its nice but also has a pretty tough crop factor compared to Large Format.
(As an interesting side note, The Swedish word for Full Format is "Small Picture" since Full Format 35mm has such a huge crop factor compared to standard (large) format and Medium.
Large, Medium and Small (FF). )

If you have MFT glass you like, I would definitely give the Blackmagic cameras a look. I recently upgraded from the GH3 myself and as nice as it was to use, the Pocket's image is in another league.
I wouldn't be worried by specs. There are always going to be new and improved cameras coming out, but if you're still making great images with your old gear, who cares?

Liam reacted to jase in Sony A6000 XAVC S Firmware V2.0
Just did the update, too. 50Mbit like the A7s! Very nice. Will do a A6000 vs A7s comparison later this week.

If I were you I would wait till it's released and then rent it, if possible. You'd be surprised at how much real world testing impacts a decision over specs.

Liam reacted to Endfallow Media in Matching NX1 with Red Dragon - Anyone interested in the results?
The title is sounds a little more provocative that it should. What it boils down to is that I decided to pick up an NX1 and couple Rokinon DS lenses, and we're curious how usable the NX1 is as a 4k B cam for the Dragon. Now I'm not one for test videos, never made one and would rather not, but I am willing to post my experiences and a little footage if they community would be interested in the results. I looked around a bit and didn't see anyone else who'd posted the same info, so if you're interested, go ahead and chime in, and I'll be sure and update the thread. If it only ends up only being a person or two interested, I'm happy to keep it off of the forum and just email individual parties. Lemme know.

Liam reacted to exomonkeyman in A7s Using an E-Mount (Loss of sharpness?)
Hey guys thanks "paulraymaekers,Julian,Ebrahim Saadawi,Mattias Burling" so much this helps massively!
and btw "j.f.r." Really off topic and you sound a little rude just throwing facts about how bad the lenses are i bought. as an indie filmmaker i don't have or really wanna spend $700+ on lenses when being honest at a certain point in my style of filmmaking it comes down to how much i can push the image in DR and the range in the camera than the lens. (also i'm using the 35mm t1.5)
For a canon 60D in video mode (it takes very blury video) i think this is pretty good (:

Thx for help guys!

Liam reacted to Despe in KineMAX 6K specs and raw footage
Hi all,
Just in case you missed it, Kinefinity now bundles SCRATCH with its 4K and 6K cameras. Existing camera owners can also get a huge discount by entering their camera SN# on the order page.
They also started posting the SCRATCH tutorials with Chinese subtitles on their Vimeo channel https://vimeo.com/kinefinity

Liam reacted to ricardo_sousa11 in Sony has gone internal-4K crazy: A7RII, RX1004, RX10II
This made me rethink if I should get the NX1 or not, but the price is out of my range, I could get it for 2k, but 3,2k is way too steep, so for now and the next few years, im sticking with the NX1 which is still one of the best choices for video for the price. I just would have loved the FF for stills.

A lot of sample video's here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLL06nPE7_lzMwCmNsXjTJ3T6y8Vh-AmNC
It definitely is not 1080p at those speeds. Maybe it's saved as 1080p but looks upscaled. Still, looks better than Nikon 1 at those crazy speeds.

Liam reacted to Mattias Burling in Review - 12mm f1.4 for 10 bucks :)
Haven't had that much time to use it yet. And haven't used it for a serious gig yet. But. Basically it's my Favorite camera of all time.

The little GM1 looked great across the board to me, especially in the outdoors shot and DR. Though I picked the blackmagic in the first scene as best.

It's all pretty straight forward.
I started to edit the results yesterday but didn't have time to finish. Hopefully tonight.

Liam reacted to elkanah77 in OPINION: Do you need 4K (narrative) to have shot at Distribution?
This has to be the biggest bullshit so far this year,,, No-one will want to view material in 1080. Come on!
As for Blu-Ray 4K...... I've bought Aliens on VHS, Laserdisc, DVD and Blu-Ray. I'll be damned if I'll let the greedy bastards trick me into buying it one more time.

Didn't have much to say about it. Its a good camera with great bang for the buck so I just peppered it with footage instead.

Liam reacted to Robert Matthews in KineMAX 6K specs and raw footage
Thanks for posting Marco. Some lovely shots in there. Looking forward to seeing more! Any chance you could post something that has a more contemporary, brighter, grade, maybe with a standard REC-709 LUT? I've noticed that Kinecolor seems to give a very classical, slightly desaturated look to the image, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I'm interested to see something different.
P.s. You have a pet owl !!!!?

Liam reacted to Marco Bentz in KineMAX 6K specs and raw footage
A test done quickly with Kinemax
Certain shots are a little too red due to a filter and a bad white balance.
The compression format is also a little bastard.
The compression does not do justice to the image quality. The next move I'll try better compression.

I already know how this thread will end. People will say it sucks. Someone fires back and says "let's see what you've done better...", another person says "we can critique all we want". Then the thread closes.
