As a really old Eoshd reader, i'm excited about the possibilities that we have with the Samsung cameras using the Tizen O.S.
If Vitaly, Magic Lantern or somebody else decides to mess with this system giving us RAW, Prores, diferents aspect ratios, higher bit rates... Nx1/nx500 would be the gh2/gh3 of 2015.

MattH- iffmpeg is a GUI for ffmpeg. ffmpeg has full source code available and is relatively easy to compile on Linux/OSX (it's better to cross-compile for Windows from Linux or OSX!). I'm currently wrapping up a fast batch converter for Windows (uses ffmpeg). If there's interest I can look into adding H.265 to H.264/ProRes conversion with full-range ffmpeg support. Also thinking about providing an add-on for mlrawviewer to improve 5D3 RAW workflow performance.

Brian, given your own eyes have moire, it's going to be there on the camera in some situations. Laws of physics, and all that.
When you look at the file to check for moire, make sure you look at it 1:1 because 4K material scaled to fit a 1080p is going to moire worse, it is completely at the mercy of the video player or NLE scaling method.

    Good review.
After shooting with the NX1 from just before Xmass i have shot a lot and had many ups and downs with the camera but do feel at this point i could shoot a TV ready or any project with it.
The work flow is longer but the end result to me is worth it.
I do most of the converting now over night letting it run. Also for work flow i am using Edius to edit with and they have a special HQX file format i convert to now ( so i am not using Prores) that gives me much smaller files to work with and real time palyback when editing even after using some filters, At some point it will start to slow down when i add in a lot of filters effects and a title but it still plays just not at full speed.
I have found that i can trust the cameras auto focus after the last update its very good very much like a ENG camera now and using one of the image stabilization lens works very good for video as well. Still has a few quirts that need working out but over all i am loving it now.
To my eyes the NX1 4k image quality and details is much better looking then the new Sony FS7 i have yet to see a video showing any better for over all shooting. I was really looking at the FS7 but for the price i could get another NX1 or the new pocket version to be out soon, Buy a small remote helicopter camera rig, A gimble. Good lighting kit, better audio recording setup and mikes, More lens and more for the same price.

For the first time in a long time organic sensor's rumors surfaced again. Panasonic will manufacture and Fuji will provide the patents and technology - Panasonic might put the micro color splitter as well, right? It seems that a Micro4/3 version might come late 2015 or early 2016. The major issues engineers were dealing with were overheating and power consumption, did they solved it or maybe they had to make some concessions like to make a bigger batttery, a bigger body, etc. From some things I read, just like BSI sensors, organic sensors might be more efficient with higher pixel count but that would get in the way of video, so maybe they will try to keep a lower MP count, IDK.
Anyway, with the E-M5 MKII around the corner and finally with better video, 24p, etc. and Sony already selling 5-axis/3-axis IBIS on FF bodies I can only speculate that one of these days there will be a E-M1 MKII with further video improvements and an A7s with IBIS and possibly internal 4K or maybe an "A9" with such feats - since the A7 formfactor is not very good for heat dissipation, faster shutter, etc. since it's too small.
What will Panasonic do? Will the GH5 have IBIS as well? Will it have this organic sensor? The early 2016 could be a plausible date for a GH5. I'm not so sure about the organic sensor as at times, these tech are tested in smaller sensors even more if this higher pixel density is true but I do hope Panasonic can deliver something like the 5-Axis IBIS to form a perfect couple with Metabones Speedbooster. Sure, if Panasonic could really deliver the organic sensor and its high-sensitivity, it would be a great deal and game changer. Despite some nice features, the A7s is not optimal for video and the GH4 is a much more like a complete package, the main knock on the GH4 is its low-light capability and with the organic sensor that issue could be a non-issue.
The GH4 is known for great battery endurance but if the power consumption issue is true, I wonder how they are going to deal with that, as well as the overheating issue, I'm sure that Panasonic wouldn't want a GH5 to have poor battery performance and recording limitation due to overheating. Nonetheless, people might accept that if the sensitivity is greatly improved. Sony proved they could deliver a big FF sensor with IBIS, so can Panasonic deal with the overheating issue of organic sensor AND put an IBIS on it as well?
    2016 will be interesting...

If the sensor was 63.7MP and light had to be delivered to that, yes. But this is a whole different thing though. It's like HDR with pixels. But you're not taking multiple exposures, you shift the sensor to take multiple readouts making it more accurate. It's like a survey where you either ask 10 or 1000 people. You get a clearer picture of what is going on when you ask more. Pretty sure their idea of implementing this is solid.

This is great as Samsung Dont hang around if they smell blood in a product category and with an agressive development and iteration cycle they will get it right sooner than later. There is a lot to like with what they are doing and it just looks to get better. With Samsung being notorious spec freaks and hate getting trumped they could be hear to stay as a  competitive forward thinking camera manufacturer.

I'm admittedly very new, extremely amateur at photography but I do own an NX1 with that lens. It's the only lens I've used with it (only one I own!). I like it. I can't say with confidence much more than that since I have no credibility, but there are boatloads of reviews that say the optical quality is good, the AF is quiet, and the OIS is good. To me these all seem true. I've had no problems. Even the exposure change that people are talking about hasn't been an issue with the camera--but I've had smart range off the whole time. I'm not doing tons of focus pulling or anything yet, so for the manual focus by wire I can't comment.

I can't talk from personal experience, but I've heard the samsung lenses manual focus is by wire.  Setting up repeatable focus pulls and follow focus might be tricky with them.   If you're shooting primarily video, you might go with the art lenses.  Plus the art line can get the mounts switched so if sigma supports NX mounts in the future they could be setup for that.  If weather sealing is a priority then the two samsung pro lenses are the only options at the moment.  Optically either is an excellent option.

This is a potential signal that 5D4 is going to be unhackable. It is rumored to be announced in about a month, and I'm pretty sure many video users will be holding off on a 5D4 purchase until ML hacks it. I know I will. So they could be trying to pre-emptively neutralize 5D3 to leave people no choice once everyone realizes the RAW party is over...

Just double checked the conversion rates. Wondershare took 28 seconds to convert a 5 second long test clip from the NX1 to ProRes LT. 7 seconds of that were at the start whilst it said "Waiting"
iFFMPEG for the same 5 second H.265 clip to ProRes LT took 13 seconds. Even if you subtract the 7 seconds from the Wondershare time it's still nearly double the time.
That's for one clip... might be quicker with multiple clips as Wondershare can use 4 cores, one clip per core so simultaneous conversions on the go.
iFFMPEG is doing a 1 pass encoding, not sure what Wondershare does but iFFMPEG produces the nicer file so it's all moot.

So funny Andrew, I just bought this app today and was about to make a topic on EOSHD forum when I saw your post
I just shot a commercial (france) yesterday with the NX1, and was quite disappointed with wondershare (tons of banding). IFFMPEG is a huge improvement in terms of quality. And I also agree that when you don't want to bother with command lines 17 (21€ in France) is a bargain.
Now I don't know if you noticed, but some settings needs a restart of the app to be applied - although the app doesn't warn you -. Such as changing the destination folder for example.

    Cheers from France!

I'm pleased with the results from Rocky Mountains Movie Converter on my PC. It's free and whilst not offering any image adjustment, it does give the Samsung's H265 files quite a pleasing reduction in contrast when converted to Prores.

    Hi,
If you open terminal, you can use ffmpeg for free. If you do not have a Samsung, but want to experiment with HVEC, you need to type something like this (encode to H.265):
    ffmpeg -i input.mov -c:v libx265 -preset medium -x265-params crf=28 -c:a aac -strict experimental -b:a 192k output.mp4
    More info:
    https://www.ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg-codecs.html
And if you have a Samsung 4K TV, it can play the H.265 files directly from USB or NAS, which is very nice.

iFFmpeg is a graphical front-end for FFmpeg, an opensource command-line tool used to convert multimedia files between formats.
There are many free GUIs written for FFmpeg that work on windows OS. To name a few: ffmpeg-gui, TEncoder, ffe, Avanti, Winff
Among all TEncoder is a multi-threaded application.
I am curious to see if you can replicate the results that you get from iFFmpeg, on a windows machine as they both seem to be using the same code. Feel free to share the footage (if you don't have access to windows) and I'd be more than happy to transcode on linux and windows and share the results.

Haha I can see the temptation already. All the criticisms still stand from my review here, I better re-read it to remind myself of the monster I'm dealing with here. Horrible ergonomics for video!! http://www.eoshd.com/2013/04/the-canon-1d-c-review/
But I've always loved the image...ahh.
I can stick two 256GB cards in there to give me 2 hours recording time, then convert the footage over night to ProRes LT to make it more fluid to edit and smaller to archive (300Mbit compared to 500Mbit)
The NX1 & GH4 can be a good B-cameras to it... stick the Cookes on them and let them roll for hours in H.265 / H.264 when I really need to shoot excessive amounts of extra b-roll 4K material.
The 1D C makes a good A-camera because it has the dynamic range with C-LOG, the 422 internal, 1.3x crop, better low light.
The A7S with Shogun is amazing but I wanted that image internally. Sometimes I can't shoot with the Shogun due to rigging reasons, or reasons of stealth or reasons of the bloody Berlin weather wondo, when it's raining all the time
But really it was the 'new lower price' and the thought of replacing my 5D Mark III that made it more palatable as a £3200 upgrade.
I will have to sell some gear now to fill the hole in my accounts!! Anyone want a D750!?
