    Problems, maybe?
Or they're all out shooting so much SlowMo that time itself has started to take a toll on them & they...are...moving...so...slowly...now...

Oh sure... the G7 has clean HDMI-out that can send video to an external monitor and can be recorded by an external recorder.
But as soon as you try to record internally... the HDMI is disabled.  Boooooo
The BlackMagic Video Assist is nice... but it doesn't record 4K.  I'd have to spend at least $1000 for an Atomos recorder in order to record 4K and monitor externally with a G7.
Or... I'll just wait for the GH5... Panasonic doesn't disable the HDMI port during internal recording on the GH-series.

Maybe they'll do a version with unlocked ProRes. That'd be pretty sweet. Imagine a BMPCC with the formfactor and usability of the GH4R and the new tech avancements such as the GX80 5-axis B.I.S. . But you know, you can only go on what you know... and that would be that MP4 and AVCHD will be their go-to standards, as it has been for years. And especially in something affordable such as the GX80 that's more of a guinea pig than an actual purposely made video tool as it still lacks flat/optimized profiles, interfaces, etc.

    Not sure what else but the MP4 4K 100Mbps you expected? M-JPEG 500Mbps? H.265?

    5 axis...
    X
    Y
Roll (rotation - this can be done mechanically for stills, or digitally with crop in video mode)
Pitch (tilt up / down correction)
Yaw (tilt left / right correction)
I can see roll, pitch and yaw being done digitally with a crop in video mode or via OIS.
It depends if the mechanical sensor movement covers all 5 axis, or just X, Y and Roll, using the lens for pitch and yaw (like Sony's system)
Does the Olympus system correct by tilting the sensor pitch and yaw? I think it probably does.
If so then Panasonic might be doing the same thing - all 5 axis on the sensor.
Then it would work with manual lenses with no electronic contacts, just like the Olympus system.
Or it may be that in video mode the electro-magnetic IBIS compensates for 3 axis (X, Y and roll) but uses electronic image shift with small crop to achieve pitch and yaw correction in 4K video mode. Maybe roll would be electronically compensated too.
OIS usually compensates for yaw and pitch.
EDIT: it looks like they do indeed have 5 axis IBIS so the sensor can move on the X and Y axis, plus rotate, plus tilt horizontally and vertically. So same as Olympus.
What they do with the OIS is probably improve the yaw and pitch control by switching the IBIS to 3 axis and doing the other 2 on the lens. This might reduce image warping especially with wide angle lenses. This was an issue with the Olympus system in video mode

Yep, looks like it has that Olympus magic to me
Finally they give us what we want... and cheap!
Big dilemma now... is it worth waiting for the GH5 for newer sensor, possibly dual pixel AF, LOG and slow-mo?
Either way, looks like Panasonic is back in the game. IBIS to this standard is a BIG advantage over Sony.

I haven't even acknowledged those comments because he's deluded.  There's nothing wrong with his camera.  My pocket reacts exactly how his does - as does every other bmpcc.  All his actions do is increase the price of future products from BM because they have to add costs for the idiot factor.

    BM's customer service personel:-
"We got another email from a customer expecting his camera to perform with a iphone torch as lighting.  What should I do boss?"
    BM's customer service manager:-
"just send him another one.  Don't bother wasting Mr Petty's time.   The sooner we get his unit back, the less time he can spend shooting crap 'low light tests' and uploading them to youtube"

Often it's cheaper to just send a replacement than try to diagnose the problem only for the customer to complain online.  I've yet to send examples of what I've found with my camera since I don't think the issue is really an issue unless the footage is pushed heavily.  I'm on the fence.    I always felt amazed how much the pocket could do, and know that what I'm seeing is likely a firmware fix rather than a physical problem.    because i know how good they are with customer service I'm happy to sit back and see.  if in 1 -2 months - or 8 months for that matter I feel the camera isn;t doing what it should I'll get in touch with them.

Filmmaker is the standart text that the forum places there, mr professor. If you take a look at bioskops file, open it in photoshop, turn off color noise removal and push one stop (iso 1600) you will see the same noise you have. You can take any camera and put it into equivalent iso (iso 4800-6400 for fullframe) and you will see the same noise in shitty light.
Have fun, I've seen this noise debates on dpreview for years, it's always the same story.

I love it. I've rigged it out to be just heavy enough to avoid micro-jitters. And I loving how skin tones are rendered. I struggled to get the GH4 someplace it didn't want to go for six months. Should have traded resolution for color and DR a long time ago. I'm much happier.

Noam also said the Canon battery lasted the entire afternoon. That's great news as well for an improvement on the short BMPCC battery life.

Only the studio 4k version has SDI (as seen in that pic) because it doesn't record internally. the micro cinema camera has no SDI. HDMI only for monitoring.
I'm very happy that a monitor is not integrated into this unit. hopefully it will have a positive effect on battery life. but more importantly, I plan to treat the camera body like I would an Alexa Mini that's been miniaturized even further, allowing me to place my SmalHD 502 monitor where i need it for any given situation -- behind it when on sticks, forward when shoulder mounted, or with a 15ft HDMI cable run when car mounted so i can monitor the shot while hiding in the backseat.

Blackmagic looked at everything I sent them and said it's fixed pattern noise. Their words. They are issuing an RMA so I can send it to them.

I've seen the fixed pattern noise from the bmmcc that wouldn;t be apparent from the same shot in the bmpcc.  I'd actually say the bmmcc might have a slightly reduced usable dr because of this - you can;t pull detail from the shadows as much as you can with the bmpcc from what I've seen so far.   I say this with a pinch of salt.  the image is still lush, and the 60p capability is worth taking a 1 stop hit on dr.  It just means i can't pull shadows up as much as I like to on shots where I;m exposing to retain highlight information.

I've sent DNGs to Blackmagic as of 5 minutes ago. Waiting to see what they say. They're not a dealkiller for me as they are pretty faint. Hard to see on a single frame. Motion is what really reveals them. But I can also confirm what Rich101 says. I have similarly exposed shots from the BMPCC that don't exhibit this at all. I went back to check and compare. Even given proper exposure, they reveal themselves in any part of the frame that dips into shadows which is going to be a part of most shots.

I'm optimistic that if BMD can fix the Ursa Mini 4K's "cold start" noise issue (and they have) then they can fix this. If they can't, then I'll likely go back to the Pocket as my A camera and use the Micro for slow motion and more precarious rigging (like car mounts, etc).

That's perfectly acceptable for my taste: with my GH4 I have other issues but they all are things normal (as today) for a digital camera.

This is a very dark shot and it is not very "cinematic" per se: this problem would be unacceptable if it destroy a well exposed (or slightly underexposed) image, but you would not underexpose so hardly normally.

Each camera has pro and cons, I do love my GH4, and I hope the Micro that will arrive today will be as good as the Pocket I had, just with 60 fps and a better batteries' life

    my 2 cents

I have both the BMPCC and BMMCC and I do not see the same vertical striations in the my Pocket footage. No trace of it. On the BMMCC it appears in shadow areas (but not in complete black). I rolled a few frames off with the lens cap on and it's not there. Only seems to appear in parts of the frame that register in the neighborhood of 5 to 30 IRE.

Its just that you forgot that there is a genre called "documentary".
I stand by my statement that was also proven in the Zacuto test. Pretty much any camera looks good if the DP has the know how and resources needed.
When there isn't time, money, knowledge, what have you, its all down to the camera, lens and codec.
    GH2 with loads of lights

    Alexa with Shitlight

Iphone with shit loads of light

And BTW, if you think Hollywood Blockbusters don't need to keep cost down and that they can use an endless amount of lights, think again.

Same thing with the BMPC4K. Lots of noise if pushed to hard. Still worth it for the image imo.
Solution was to not push, or light the scene.

They are nice & do their best to solve problems. As with all electronic devices, there's always going to be some bad apples & the internet just makes things seem to be a lot worse than they really are. Just remember that these cameras are not low light monsters, they do need a minimum of light. The image that they produce is really so much better than a DSLR, but they do have their limitations just like a DSLR does & people tend to forget that.

I've just switched from sony a7s to BMPCC, just for that incredible cinematic look that's impossible to achieve with the sony, despite being a better overall camera reguarding reliability. I've sent my pocket to them a couple of days ago, let's see what they will do.
But there's one thing for sure, we all have to complain to them!

I agree, their cameras are cheap and they have the best image available, even spending 3 or 4 times more you can't have that look.
Anyway their customer service seems very friendly and helpful, maybe my camera is more prone to that problem, I hope they can fix it or replace it, we'll see.

Talking about Special Purposes.... how about being the only $1000 camera with Super 35mm 4K recording, 13 stop dynamic range with LOG, small file sizes, built in EVF, 120fps in full HD and the best autofocus system under the $6000 1D X Mark II pro DSLR.

Think this is the thing with the Micro - everyone's just got straight to shooting something, cheers.
    1. Used worse screens & with a crude viewfinder, I've never ever missed focus.
    2. Yes, yes & yes - stopped using RAW because of this & only vintage lenses + anamorphic lenses (also avoid moire creating things like the plague!).
    3. Not a problem - swap the SD card, swap the battery.
Pocket has/had the best image out there, hands down, no question about it!
Just hoping that BM announce a camera that lies inbetween the BMCC & Pocket...
