That's a little disconcerting what sort of temperature were you filming at, inside or out?
Have been testing the R6 and one major irritant for me is that I can't use the cameras touch screen and record internally when I have an external monitor hooked up. Really shitty thing to do, is this the same with the R5?

I don't get the complaints about dynamic range. All recent cameras (non-Arri, non-Red) get around 12 stops—including the R5 in raw.
Raw is noisy, including Redcode, and NR is a necessary tool in post. If you don't want to shoot in Raw, there are other options out there that will give you a cleaner image with higher dynamic range.
The tradeoff of course will be more artifacts, limited latitude, or worse color. It's your choice.
Even the Komodo has tradeoffs. On image quality alone, it has relatively awful low-light and limited latitude with dramatic color shifts.
If you just can't live without 13 stops of dynamic range or the world will be bereft of your creative potential and professional skills, you have a simple answer: C70.
All good points. My little grumble about DR mainly comes from being spoilt on the X-t3 and even more so the Panasonic S1 which seems to have quite a bit more DR than the R6 I am testing. I realise the R5 has Raw and clog3 and was trying to ascertain how much difference that would make. It's not the end of the world, is just a little disappointing to go backwards a bit in DR, you get used to a certain way of shooting.
I don't want a c70 or even a Sony A7s3/fx3 for that matter, I'm looking for a decent hybrid that shoots solid 10 bit video and nice stills on the ef lenses we have lying around at work. The R6 and even more so the R5 are both very capable cameras with a lovely looking image. We will be getting one of them no doubt, doesn't mean I'm not allowed to be a little frustrated with the DR in video, particularly when the DR is there in the stills side.

Actually just realised the R6 uses the sensor from the 1DX so not brand new but still is way below other full frame cameras for DR in video. Has good DR in photos though so annoying that Canon have limited it so much in video - all part of their product segmentation I guess...

Yes have got an R6 to try for a week and have to say the DR in c-log feels quite a bit below my Fuji in f-log which is disappointing for a new full frame sensor compared to a super 35 sensor that's a few years old now. Was hoping the clog3 might push the R5 (and eventually perhaps the R6) at least into a similar place with DR. I realise there is more DR in RAW on the R5 but that would not be what I would be using most of the time, a nice juicy 10 bit file is what I'm after

Have been hearing that clog3 doesn't seem to give the R5 any more DR than Clog does - anyone compared?

Wondering if the RAW light would also allow some of the cheaper cfexpress cards to work better. The price of the officially compatible ones are still eye watering

Pretty surprised but I could play back the new 8k Raw codec in DaVinci Resolve on a three-year old iMac (souped up at the time however). I have always edited in Premiere but it's pretty insane how much smoother DaVinci is with everything. Need to make the full switch.
Are you finding the new 8k RAW light easier to edit, my pc struggles with original 8k RAW samples I've found online even in Resolve? Can't find any RAW light samples to try out if anyone knows of any, still mulling over R5/R6 for work and with the lack of clog3 on R6 new firmware am beginning to see the lure of the R5...

Ok not found much info on the audio quality of these cameras. Obviously for important work I would capture sound seperately but occasionally for quick omb stuff I have connected SD mix pre-d directly to Panasonic GH5/S1 (decent quality) and Fuji XT-4 (not as good as Panasonic). With the level turned down to 1 on each camera and let the Mix pre do the heavy lifting I was happy with the results from Panasonic but not so much the Fuji. Would be interested to know if the Canon's are useable or not...

The yellow cast thing only becomes a problem in mixed lighting, if you're using AWB you simply need to hit info inside the settings and select white priority as warm is the default. In custom or kelvin, switch to Clog and select Neutral color matrix. You can also further adjust WB tint in the RGB matrix.
Concerning 4K rolling shutter on R6 you can half the RS from 30ms to 15ms just by shooting in 4K60p (and convert to 24/25p in post) and down to 20ms in 4K crop mode.
My main concern with shooting 50p to get better RS is that I would also higher the shutter speed to 1/100 to get nice motion which means I would lose a lot of the low light benefits of the camera. Got to admit I haven't looked at 4k 50p is it the same quality as 4k 25p on the R6? Also what's the quality of the 4k crop mode, the oversampled crop is another enticing aspect with the R5
As far as the yellow cast are you saying so long as I shoot manual white balance with clog in neutral then everything is ok? That would be fine for me, never trusted AWB before

Having looked at the image of the R5 and R6 they are both very nice, not much to choose from them although the rolling shutter on the R6 is a little off putting. And the fall back to HD not so good when or if things overheat in 4k. DR is not amazing on either but there is talk of c-log3 coming to the R5 which I think would push me that way unless the R6 gets it to - I wonder what the chances are, may just hold off a decision until then - anyone have any info when the firmware is expected, it was meant to have happened by now?
Got to say though I do still slightly prefer the image coming from the Fuji xt3/xt4 - can't put my finger on why but I think it is truly remarkable the quality you can get from such a cheap camera

This made me feel slightly nauseous but impressive bit of flying

I've used the Genus Eclipse now for many years don't even know if it's available anymore - slightly warm but no colour shift that I can see and no obvious drop in sharpness

Sorry to plonk this here but as the FX6 keeps getting mentioned in comparison and I couldn't actually find a FX6 thread (surely there must be one somewhere it's proving very popular camera?)
Anyway a bit too much slow mo for my tastes but some lovely footage never the less and a little Alexa comparison at the end

Is definitely convenient am just saying it's hell of a lot of money for something that still causes colour shifts and you have to mess around with a clear filter or buy another adapter which takes away some of that convenience.
And that only works on ef lenses, is useless if you want to use rf lenses
Am just a little disappointed it still has some of the issues normal vari nds have
-
Blimey yes I see you need to buy a clear filter too, that's a lot of money for something that doesn't seem to work that well - thanks for the feedback, it seems every time I get interested in Canon there's always a few gotchas
-
Has anyone used the vari nd adapter from Canon, am hearing reports that colour changes quite dramatically depending on the amount of nd you are using - it sounded like a great idea but that would be pretty disappointing for a £400 adapter
-
Shame it seems silly to exclude that it worked well in 8 bit

Does the R6 or R5 have the wide dynamic range profile that the c100 has which was quite handy for quick turnaround stuff? Can't seem to find any mention of it, would be a way of getting around the h265 issue I have

Thanks for the info as you say it is well documented but what I can't find out is if you are able to turn to FHD mode once it has overheated in 4k or do you have to wait 30 mins to start again in any mode?
