  1. Yes have got an R6 to try for a week and have to say the DR in c-log feels quite a bit below my Fuji in f-log which is disappointing for a new full frame sensor compared to a super 35 sensor that's a few years old now. Was hoping the clog3 might push the R5 (and eventually perhaps the R6) at least into a similar place with DR. I realise there is more DR in RAW on the R5 but that would not be what I would be using most of the time, a nice juicy 10 bit file is what I'm after
  2. Have been hearing that clog3 doesn't seem to give the R5 any more DR than Clog does - anyone compared?
  3. Wondering if the RAW light would also allow some of the cheaper cfexpress cards to work better. The price of the officially compatible ones are still eye watering
  4. Are you finding the new 8k RAW light easier to edit, my pc struggles with original 8k RAW samples I've found online even in Resolve? Can't find any RAW light samples to try out if anyone knows of any, still mulling over R5/R6 for work and with the lack of clog3 on R6 new firmware am beginning to see the lure of the R5...

    R5 vs R6

That would be groovy, in reality how much extra DR would c-log3 bring over c-log1, it's definitely one of the weak points to the R5 & R6, hopefully this would make their DR more competitive? The R6 would definitely be more compelling to me

    R5 vs R6

Ok not found much info on the audio quality of these cameras. Obviously for important work I would capture sound seperately but occasionally for quick omb stuff I have connected SD mix pre-d directly to Panasonic GH5/S1 (decent quality) and Fuji XT-4 (not as good as Panasonic). With the level turned down to 1 on each camera and let the Mix pre do the heavy lifting I was happy with the results from Panasonic but not so much the Fuji. Would be interested to know if the Canon's are useable or not...

    R5 vs R6

Thinking about it will 50p shot at 1/50 and converted to 25p have the same motion characteristics as 25p shot at 1/50? Have only ever thought of using 1/100 in terms of getting it looking right when used as slow motion

    R5 vs R6

My main concern with shooting 50p to get better RS is that I would also higher the shutter speed to 1/100 to get nice motion which means I would lose a lot of the low light benefits of the camera. Got to admit I haven't looked at 4k 50p is it the same quality as 4k 25p on the R6? Also what's the quality of the 4k crop mode, the oversampled crop is another enticing aspect with the R5 As far as the yellow cast are you saying so long as I shoot manual white balance with clog in neutral then everything is ok? That would be fine for me, never trusted AWB before

    R5 vs R6

Having looked at the image of the R5 and R6 they are both very nice, not much to choose from them although the rolling shutter on the R6 is a little off putting. And the fall back to HD not so good when or if things overheat in 4k. DR is not amazing on either but there is talk of c-log3 coming to the R5 which I think would push me that way unless the R6 gets it to - I wonder what the chances are, may just hold off a decision until then - anyone have any info when the firmware is expected, it was meant to have happened by now? Got to say though I do still slightly prefer the image coming from the Fuji xt3/xt4 - can't put my finger on why but I think it is truly remarkable the quality you can get from such a cheap camera

    R5 vs R6

Thank you sir very much appreciated
  11. This made me feel slightly nauseous but impressive bit of flying
  12. I've used the Genus Eclipse now for many years don't even know if it's available anymore - slightly warm but no colour shift that I can see and no obvious drop in sharpness

Ah that would be wonderful thank you

    R5 vs R6

Anyone know where there's some R5 4k hq and lq 24 or 25p footage to download of peoples faces not landscapes, am finding it surprisingly difficult? Got some of R6, would like to compare. Any HD footage from either camera would also be good. Thanks
  15. Sorry to plonk this here but as the FX6 keeps getting mentioned in comparison and I couldn't actually find a FX6 thread (surely there must be one somewhere it's proving very popular camera?) Anyway a bit too much slow mo for my tastes but some lovely footage never the less and a little Alexa comparison at the end
  16. Is definitely convenient am just saying it's hell of a lot of money for something that still causes colour shifts and you have to mess around with a clear filter or buy another adapter which takes away some of that convenience. And that only works on ef lenses, is useless if you want to use rf lenses Am just a little disappointed it still has some of the issues normal vari nds have
  17. Blimey yes I see you need to buy a clear filter too, that's a lot of money for something that doesn't seem to work that well - thanks for the feedback, it seems every time I get interested in Canon there's always a few gotchas
  18. Has anyone used the vari nd adapter from Canon, am hearing reports that colour changes quite dramatically depending on the amount of nd you are using - it sounded like a great idea but that would be pretty disappointing for a £400 adapter
  19. Shame it seems silly to exclude that it worked well in 8 bit
  20. Does the R6 or R5 have the wide dynamic range profile that the c100 has which was quite handy for quick turnaround stuff? Can't seem to find any mention of it, would be a way of getting around the h265 issue I have
  21. Yes I realise that, was just laughing at the irony that for my needs the easier to edit 8 bit would be quite handy occasionally. Am looking at the R6 to be able to use all the nice Canon lenses at my work, but feel I would still ending up using my own Fuji and its easy to edit h264 for quick turnaround stuff that doesn't need much grading
  22. Ha neither can the Canon R5 or R6 - wish it did as 10 bit h265 is horrible to edit on my computer. (I understand the new Apple m1 can but I'm on pc). Sometimes I don't need the highest quality or want to transcode - it would be nice if the R5/6 did an 8 bit h264 c-log like the Fuji Xt-3/4 does
  23. Yes I guess the C100 quality is the gold standard that I was hoping for
  24. Thanks yes just found Slashcam tests which confirm what you've just said "In HD, the rolling shutter times are also very close to the values of the 1D X MkIII: We measured around 11.5 ms of 24-60fps, with 100-120fps around 7 ms." They also say this about HD which has kind of put me off the idea.. "However, the camera does not deliver perfect debayering in HD, but some scaling artifacts (e.g. in the circles) come to light. In most cases, it should therefore always make more sense to film in 4K and then downscale the material in post-production to FullHD. Unless you absolutely need the lower rolling shutter times or an extreme slow motion setting with 120fps." Sorry for going off topic in this thread
  25. Sorry but while you're on it, what's the RS on the R6 in full frame HD mode?
