  1. I love canon products. If they could deliver even good 4K (10-bit?) (with an option to shoot open gate ) on that FF mirrorless I'd be stoked. It would certainly streamline the equipment I need to carry.
  2. You have a good memory haha. Yeah I sold the 7D last year for basically same as I bought it for. Got a 5Diii for a pretty good price afterwards. Main reason I got the 5Diii was actually for photos and the fact it would fit in my 7D Aquatech waterhousing. Since I already have GH5 (which I can also fit in the housing) I'm not using 5Diii as much for video as when I used the 7D (when I also had GH4 previous). That said 5Diii colour and image is the best of almost any camera I've used and can afford, the thing is most people I shoot with want a higher resolution look to their video and also want some slo-mo (60p). If it were up to me I'd probably use 5D more for video than I do. One thing I've kind of noticed between 7D to 5D Raw is that 5D appears to have more FPN, I swear I didn't notice that at all on the 7D. I think that the GH5 HLG 6K anamorphic footage (or 4K 10bit HLG) is really nice, unfortunately I notice quite a difference between that and the 60p cine-d 8-bit mode which I use most as people want slo-mo. The colours are so much nicer to work with in 10-bit and HLG, I find it super hard in comparision to balance out the colours in 8-bit Cine-D sometimes, but maybe that's also down to skill... I'm still looking for a Raw capable camera that can do a bit more, eventually I'd love something like a Terra 4K (or maybe even this Zcam E2 if they can do good things). I'd also love to see what Canon can do with a mirrorless full-frame camera, it would be nice if that was good.
  3. Personally I wouldn't choose this camera over a6500 (having shot both) and I'm pretty much a Canon fanboy and own and shoot with 5Dmkiii and several EOSM1s all with ML. It's depressing, because Canon are so close to something super nice here, but all those little things (crop, RS, bitrate etc.) are taking too much away from it. Don't get me wrong I love shooting C-mount lenses, but there's only so far that look can go and if I'm going to do that I will just shoot my GH5 or Raw on the EOSm for a truly 16mm look. Just my thoughts for anyone weighing up this camera.
  4. Not many of these types of camera include a screen, but it would be nice. CFast isn't a bad solution given the data rates needed, especially if they include ProRes and Raw as they have mentioned that they are trying to.
  5. @newfoundmass I never said it would be "critically acclaimed" haha, you sound like a fool, or a bad troll ?.
  6. Why can't canon just do something half decent? I'd kill for an APS-C canon version of a6500 or GH5 etc... Yeah I know why, but still it would be nice.
  7. Their most significant release isn't E1 at all... seems like you have it/them all pretty figured out, you should build a camera . They have explained (and talked about) why the things you ask for aren't possible (at least for the initial product) in their Facebook questions/answers already, I'm just relaying their information, I'm not "explaining away" anything.
  8. @newfoundmass They produce other cameras besides the E1 and you're right I've never heard of anyone releasing cameras with issues... cough cough. Straight to SSD would be ideal but that isn't in the scope of it's size. You can take GH5 out and shoot 120fps 4K possibly in Prores and Raw? No. These are ideally totally different products for different markets, comparing it to what you think is a good camera (a dslr) and writing it off for not being such is naive, especially when the thing doesn't even exist yet. It's not even on sale... how is it "already a tough sell" hahaha. I'm sure they will sell just fine if they deliver. I think people have the wrong idea about what this camera is supposed to be. As far as I can tell from designer comments it's focus is on multi camera shoots and live streaming, it's not designed primarily to compete as a DSLR although can be rigged out to be more of a cine camera. It's something similar to a BMMCC, which as far as I'm aware sold quite well, thus I don't see the reason for the stigma towards this new design which has many upgrades over a BMMCC (if delivered). I'm just glad someone else is giving it a go and trying to give the market amazing specs at a realistic price, even if they don't deliver everything I'm glad someone is actually trying.
  9. As much of an "if" as anyone else saying they will try and do something for a given price bracket. They already have a decent company and deliver pretty technical products. You can record straight to SSD via the USB port . I don't really see what would be a huge investment? Same as almost any other camera (most people buy external screen and cage even when a camera has one already, I do). Specs should be better than Pocket if they deliver and it's a 4:3 sensor, not 16:9 like the pocket which will please some people more (such as anamorphic shooters). I doubt it will be a tough sell. If they deliver what's promised it will sell super easy. Time will tell. It has a CFast on one side. You can record to SSD via USB. They aren't doing built in mini XLRs as it's form is too small, they said they will provide an adapter/add on to mini XLR though. The pocket 4K isn't the same camera, it's not even delivering the same aspect ratios. Whether or not they use similar sensors (or even the same) really means nothing, a sensor doesn't define a camera, so much goes into the back end. The E1 was a totally different product for a different price bracket, only similarities between them is really the name. You're right though, they should do an upgrade to the E1 as well as it's a pretty unique form factor for such a camera. I feel however that the E2 if it delivers will be a much bigger money maker than the E1 ever was.
  10. If they implement the features talked about on their FB group and deliver it all within a good quality image/codec it will sell in the truckload already.
  11. Yeah I guess you could if you wanted to be super exact, I think by eye is usually OK though.
  12. You don't need lenses over 25mm to cover GH4 4K, just that 1inch c-mounts that do cover (or get very close) are really hard to find. I did try to say these lenses weren't particularly practical. How's the quality of the booster image wise?
  13. Looks decent. Some shots look like your adapter wasn't aligned properly (first shot in particular). Squeeze changes as you focus with most adapters, the squeeze quoted is usually only true for infinity focus.
  14. I'd recommend the Fujinon CF primes, best bang for buck and look, although some need work adapting them. Some of the Canon and Fujinon zooms for 1inch are nice but they never rival primes from the era really and the best ones are still expensive. C-mount primes in Wide angles are pretty hard to come by (especially so for decent prices). You could go the Kowa 6mm or 8mm if you want a proper wide angle, then pair it with some longer fujinon primes.
  15. Neither of those lenses are particularly great. Fun to mess around with for a stylised look though if you're after that. (I've had both).
  16. ML Raw (even the 7D version I once used) seems to have a similar DR to GH5 except it has a much nicer highlight retention . It's much easier to over expose GH5 footage and ruin shots than MLraw, also the 14bit colour is a pretty huge bonus (no white balance issues). Although the resolution of MLraw is less I don't find it too much different to look at once edited and colour graded. That extra colour info somehow makes up for less resolution a bit. That being said FF 4K ML raw would be amazing... I'm waiting to see how the new BMPCCC and Zcam E2 will look, they might be close to what I like (or not ).
  17. Kind of like the story of MLraw. I still look at footage I shot with MLraw vs GH5 and think it looks better somehow... and that's comparing 1080p to 4K.
  18. Honestly I don't care if it's exactly the same camera (or product) as something already existing as long as there's no hiding or misleading people about that fact. My friend has a few of their monitors, they are exactly the same as some I have (Feelworld and a few other names). The only thing I think is weird about that company is it's misleading/confusing pricing of monitors and the way in which you order them. That being said people can operate as they wish, it's up to you as the consumer whether you purchase it.
  19. I'm going to need video proof to believe that, this lens must bend the laws of light and physics.
  20. I highly doubt you can properly focus-through this lens. If you can it would be the only 2x in existence where this is possible.
  21. 1080p 4:3 doesn't exist on other pannys either. I can see the draw card for higher frame rates or really slow computers, but honestly the IQ drop you get with anamorphic makes 1080p from most cameras look pretty crappy imo. If you can it's much better to just film in 4K and downsample or make proxies if you need to. On GH5 it's even another level again with the 6K mode, it just makes anamorphic lenses look so nice, the way they take the harshness off what is mostly a pretty digital looking sensor/image, it makes me want to shoot everything in 6K... but then I have no 60p same with HLG.
  22. I'm not sure because I don't shoot with the GH5s. But from what I understand with the GH5, the best DR is found at it's base 400ISO setting. Probably DR is best at the GH5s base dual ISO's as well. That bbeing said if the image is clean and you expose properly I don't see an issue with changing ISO as it doesn't make a massive difference to my images or work flow. I just try not to go much over 1600iso on the GH5 to limit noise.
