  1. It is one thing to protect copyright.  It's another thing to deploy a process in which the small guy almost always loses.

My experience with the other big video hosting company is that if you get hit by a false positive, it can take up to six week for the rights "holder" to respond to your dispute.  And if they do respond, they can deny your dispute and you will have to go through the formal appeal process which involves disclosing your personal information.  Unless your pocket is as deep as one of these vultures, responding to those legal letters is simply not worth the time and money.

  2. Use a mic preamp.  Something like

    Hi there,

I'm testing the GH4 with my Sennheiser MKE 400 external mic.

It seems that my recorded audio is not loud enough. The audio level monitor on the GH4's screen barely comes to the center of the audio level monitor.

    I have a few questions:

    • How can I get my audio recorded much louder?
    • I've already set the mic level to +6dB. Is it safe to use this setting anyway?

    Thanks in advance!

Use a mic preamp.  Something like Zoom H4N (or the new H5N) and a bunch of TASCAM units could help.  If you have money, a Sound Device MixPre-D is also a good choice.

  3. Well, if you guys are serious about supporting artists, don't shed a tear for the RIAA and the music industry, support websites like "bandcamp.com" where artists can sell directly to you. They aren't losing money because of Vimeo, that's just free promotion, they're losing money because of offshore file upload websites and the music blogs that link to them.

If I can, I like to buy directly from the artists, I try to do that at live events for example (they sell cd's at live shows because they actually see the money). It's not just free downloads that are stealing from musicians, it's the labels and their managers too. My ex used to work in R&R, you would not believe the crap that goes on.

Musicians and writers often do get ripped off by publishers.  That's why more and more of them are getting into self-publishing.

  4. YouTube's content matching algorithm is so good that it flags anything that remotely resembles what is on their database. Like others, I have had 300-year old classical pieces that I recorded on site being flagged for copyright violation.   I even have had something I created 100% originally flagged!!!

I was hoping switching to Vimeo would solve this nonsense.   Looks like it won't.

YouTube offers the big guys different options. Some might let you keep your audio and put ads or links to the CD. Others might mute your audio. Yet some others would suspend your video and give your account a strike unless an appeal is successful. If your account gets three strikes, it is suspended.

  5. I use this Kensingotn Trackball

I don't use it on a sherbet yellow table though

If I had to edit with a mouse it'd break me... too much pain.

I had one of these. Very good.

  6.

Is this true? That's not what I've been seeing people say. The second link jurgen provided says:

    • The buzz is always there: It is present whether or not a microphone is plugged into the GH4 and at all audio gain levels.
    • The buzz is recorded to all clips created by the GH4 (see below for samples).

    That is very disturbing.
