In the hands of someone who doesn't know much about audio recording, a $10K mic can do more harm than a $50 mic because all the mistakes and flaws will become much more crystal clear! :)

I have just got a Tiffen variable ND filter and it seems ok so far. Indispensable when shooting outdoors.

A quick question. Does the A7S has any 30 minutes limit for video for the US version?
Thanks!
From what I heard, it does have a 30min limit.

Can't wait for the GH4 version. :)

Ok. Here is my finding. Even with mic level -12dB, the GH4 mic preamp self-noise is still audible. So that's noise that must be removed in post. Since it's pretty much white noise, any decent noise removal tool should do be able to remove it. As for the buzz, the kind that people complained about, I couldn't replicate it.
-
I did some rough recording with a Sony PCM-M10 line out into the mic in. Since the Sony outputs a line level signal, I had to turn the mic gain on the GH4 by -8dB. It seems like there is no buzz but the noise floor is higher than direct to recorder. I will try a few more settings and post a comparison.

Let me check with my gear. I normally record audio externally so it doesn't bother me.

Make absolutely certain that iDynamic is off. I have been able to shoot in a dark church without distracting noise.
High contrast scenes are indeed quite difficult to deal with. But with enough fiddling, a nice image can be obtained.
I don't like CineD. No matter what I do, it just looks weird.

Fred & Sharon created that video to promote their video production services. They were serious- that's why it's so... what it is (no spoilers here). The video has 1.6 million views. Read the comments on the video for more entertainment.
Wow. 1.6 million view. Now I do feel inspired! Thanks. -
Right. I checked my manual too.

I couldn't get mine to 1/16000 either.

iPhone 5s - 120fps test
now you know why we cant have good things...this is the new competition of CANON....mobile phone cameras.
by an excellent filmaker by the way. Bill newsinger
Beautiful. It makes me want to get the iPhone 6 as a C-cam. :)

A friend of mine said the EM1 is a very good stills camera. Its 5-axis IBIS is very good. Perfect for family events unless you want to become a serious videographer, in which case you might want something with more video options. The EM1 will also let you use lenses without stabilization which could be a plus.

Is there some sort of consensus that I'm unaware of about what makes a good skin tone? Because I can't shake the feeling that this whole thing is very... racey. Like how do viewers that didn't do the shoot know how the person's skin is supposed to be? Are we just all pushing the tones to what we personally deem "nice"? Should we be pulling in some more reds or blues for Asians "so that their skin isn't so yellow"?
The trend is to make people look orange.http://theabyssgazes.blogspot.ca/2010/03/teal-and-orange-hollywood-please-stop.html

Saw this article at Streaming Media, about the HEVC (also known at H.265) licensing terms, and how are likely to keep HEVC from being adopted. The costs are too high. That would be a big blow for 4K distribution, since more efficient encoding is needed to make 4K distribution practical.

Maybe VP9 will take off. -
Damn it! Thank you varicam. It was set to standard, because I saw a vimeo test clip two days ago with nice results at standard. So I tested it...forgot to turn it off again.
Do you think there would have been close to no noise, even with shadows +2 ?Not sure. But turn off iDynamic and see what happens.
-
Here's a little clip testing FullHD All-Intra (cinelike-d) in combination with slowmotion (cinelike-v).
Does the noise maybe result from lifting the shadows by 2 ? Contrast was at -3, Master +7
What did you have for iDynamic and iResolution?

10-bit 4K external recording will be possible with the Shogun (September) or quad SDI recorders (possible now with YAGH: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/857190-REG/AJA_KI_PRO_QUAD_Ki_Pro_Quad.html).
Thanks. But a solution that cost 2x more than my camera and lens doesn't look very justifiable at the moment. Is there a rumoured price for the Shogun? -
So there is no 10-bit 4K external recording, right?

I hope there is an update to the GH4 shooter's guide containing info on the various options of recording from HDMI. Right now I am reading bits and pieces and still feel confused as to what I can actually get from the HDMI out.

The recommended cards are too expensive for cheapskates like me. :)
