  1. Sorry for reviving the old thread. Any luck with the comparisons? I have been researching this too!
  2. Hey guys, I'm looking for a hypergonar 16 in good condition - any of the 5 models, apart from the 6th one with the concentric rings. Let me know if you have anything... thanks!
  3. Hey guys, I salvaged an old anamorphic projector lens, and there's an issue with the rear element (specifically, its outer surface). It's foggy (almost like ground glass) - but it also has some tiny splotches which are clear. Based on the shape of the splotches, I figured it was somehow fungus related, so I gave the lens element a short vinegar bath, and then also some stronger fungicide, but it didn't change anything. I also swabbed the surface with acetone (I figured I can at least take off some of the coating) but again, nothing happened. This thing seems to be bulletproof... The other side of the element, as well as its cementing, seem to be fine. I attached some pictures. Any ideas how to restore this? I am happy to strip away the coating or any other drastic measures, as at the moment this element is unusable. CLEAR SIDE: -- FOGGY SIDE:
  4. How does it perform when the taking lens is wide open? Is it soft? CA?
  5. Sean from http://followfocusgears.com/ does custom gears - he made a gear for my Kowa B&H 2X anamorphic. recommended!
  6. part of the issue is that rear anamorphics (these are already a thing - often used on zooms) don't create the traditional anamorphic artifacts/aesthetic in the image...
  7. how bad is the separation? And is the chip in view or to the side? PS - messaged you
  8. Anyone looking to sell a 2X S8 iscomorphot / animex lens? Let me know Also interested in any other 8mm 2X anamorphics!
  9. A short sci-fi film I directed. Shot on BMCC + a lot of CG/vfx. Filmed in London, China, and Hong Kong. any feedback welcome :-)
  10. On a side note - how are you finding the rangefinder with the Kowa?
  11. yeah. the problem is not the desqueeze itself - it's the lens distortion of the anamorphic. It's quite a pronounced sphere at the edges, so they become 'compressed' more, if that makes sense? Depends on what software you are using, but I've had good results (not perfect but close) in Nuke - using a checkerboard grid that I filmed as a calibration tool, and then re-straightening it...
  12. Redstan. http://www.redstan.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=68 (this includes front clamp too, but maybe you can message to find one with just the back, if that's what you want) PS - 16s has a 39mm back thread, not 52mm

    Helicoid grease

Hey guys. I recently salvaged and cleaned an old Sankor 16c - I've taken the old gunk off the helicoid and now need to replace it with some fresh grease. Any suggestions for which type of grease would work well? I'm based in the UK (London) so anything locally available would be preferred, but not necessarily...
  14. DOF is amazing. Are you sure the blown red channel is just your grading - and not an exaggeration of the BMPCC's infrared problem in some way?
  15. Looks great, but the 86/75mm threads are problematic - that's not even standard filter ring sizes. I couldn't find any step-up rings to 75mm.
