Yeah it can happen. I had that issue. Canon fixed it promptly for free if I remember correctly and even offered to overnight me a free loaner. If you bought the 1dc new you also were a silver or gold or something cvp member for a year, so you could borrow lenses to test for free or cheap (I forget), and other perks. That's another thing to keep in mind. Reliability. Service. Speed. I guess you could just buy 3 or 4 pocket 4ks though.

Well 5 years of solid use and can still sell for $3k plus on the the used market. So if you do the math its cheaper than upgrading every year. Not to mention you are not relearning every trick, feature, and setting of each new camera to get an optimal image.

If you have Amazon prime you can watch "The only living boy in New York" in uhd (hdr) and also the regular version. It's shot on film. Its an example of what hdr is and is not. (Also an example of film originated material vs digital, as are some of the most popular shows like breaking bad(uhd version on netflix) walking dead and west world)
I saw a post of yours elsewhere that stated all the movie theaters were closing. A reply was then made "where in the world do you live with no theaters?" The quite obvious answer was posted next. "A pirate ship".

sure. it's a made up word. when in Rome, no? regardless of the terminology and what causes motion(put your favorite descriptive word here..... blur, judder, etc...) it doesnt change the fact that truly world class Dp's are discussing "it" in a thread with cadence in the title if you have not visited the link in prior posts.
regarding my own fiddling, which is already admittedly unscientific in every last way, the F35 was always chosen. why? I attributed it to the ccd vs cmos but who knows?

did you try searching for "judder" ? that might help. millions of posts about that. the link I posted earlier in this thread where none other than Geoff Boyle weighs in, should at least convince you its a real thing. my opinion is it only really comes into play if you are trying to emulate film on the acquisition side. on the monitor side, have you ever watched a plasma screen? lcd(oled) has very different motion. videophiles prefer plasma based on all the posts I could find, and i do as well. the vague terminolgy combined with an extreme amount of variables makes it hard to define.
I think for most viewers, its a subconscious thing. I show friends and family back to back samples of my 1dc, F35, Fs700raw4k, and a newer iPhone without letting them know which is which. then ask which they prefer, and to also describe the look and feel. I've tried it on different screens as well.
the F35 has always been picked as favorite and usually something to the effect of "oooh that one looks like a movie" not scientific in the slightest, but, what is it people notice?

rolling shutter and the motion cadence are why I lug around the F35. I could do alexa,venice,etc...but the attributes mentioned above are why I stick to the ccd of the F35. in retrospect, I should of just gone16mm and and saved over a decade of fiddling and applied the price of a median american home ive already spent on film!

this gets into motion cadence a bit.
even with gimbals, ibis, etc...slowmo continues. i think youtubers love slowmo in their cinematic whatever because it somewhat nullifies "motion cadence" issues on the camera side.

how does slowmo relate if at all to the vague term motion cadence? it seems like 9 out 10 "cinematic" youtube camera "tests" are now done in slowmotion. is there any correlation?

wish I could be of more help, but if changing gamut is not entirely obvious, maybe the F3 is different. on the F35 and other sony cinealta cams, just head to gamut in the menu.
congrats on the fsi and video io. I wish more of the image making community would take the time/money to get the most crucial part right. I don't know how all the bloggers, YouTubers, forum members etc... can give advice about a cameras image vs anothers that's worth 2 cents. their assessment is actually just an interpretation of their very @^$#*imaging pipeline.

I think someone may have been confused about the addition of slog to the F3, which was not available in the F3 at its release. It was a paid option that came later.

sgamut is not the only available in camera gamut. the noticeable differences between the gamuts can be subtle. add a cheap monitoring setup to the equation and...... maybe the OP could hire a colorist?

What surprised me, even though the clips were synced, there appears to be drift by some of the cams. And not the kind where one or more of the pendelum shots either pull ahead or fall behind the others due to a tiny difference in frame rates like 23.98 vs 24. The clips seem to be drifting minutely ahead in one frame and then getting slightly behind in another and so on through out the clip, but they start and finish all together.
What's easiest to see is the impact of rolling shutter. And we've all seen at least one of the multitude of rolling shutter tests involving cmos sensors. In the discussions that revolve around these tests, someone usually chimes in with "well the Alexa has a cmos sensor" and then the conversation turns to "faster read out speed" This, http://tessive.com/mechanical-shutter-comparison/ , which many of us have seen before, at least outlines a difference, stark or otherwise. Whether this is part of what people notice, or not?
