Big surprise on the price .I understand that they have made it entry level to their other cameras but to step up to the 6K Kinefinity Mavo mk 2 full frame which can do 12bit ProRes4444XQ and uncompressed Raw is US $6,000.

Black magic generation 6 color science is supposed to be on their latest high end cameras.Hopefully more will be revelled at Cine Gear Expo June 5 & 6.Generation 5 came out way back in July 2020 . Greg Clarke from Blackmagic says Gen 6 is for the top end RGB cameras and whilst the update should be available to some other cameras there will be a cut off due to processor limitations on older or less capable cameras.

ARRI have been able to focus on colour science for cinema whereas Canon and Nikon moving from film to digital was primarily colour science for stills "the capture of a single frame".It is not the same .Nikon must have had many died in the wool stills photographer old farts on their board that only began to change about six years ago towards "cameras are multimedia capture devices." Fujifilm is different -making motion picture film was an important part of their business from 1934 to 2013. Red have been in the game since 2005 but without the history and back ground that ARRI had with cinema meant their colour science developed in a different way(with American influences !) . There is also feature films like Dune-2021 and The Batman -2022 that used digital to film to digital (DFD) to give the final result a more film like appearance.

Looking at the bigger picture the current lead that ARRI has in this field can be eroded over the next few years by other camera manufacturers. As an example Black Magic is already up to Generation 6 color science and each generation is a step better than the last

Looks like they haven't learnt anything from "DEI Snow White" loosing $170 million. The Odyssey is shaping up to be another "go woke,go broke". Why the silly looking noses on the Dwarfs ? -

RareAdaptors.com do a Canon FD to LPL for about US $100 but it only works with lenses with a 60mm thread (and they don't list them !) removing the FD mount looks fairly easy I don't see what problem there is with that ? Canon FD sets are common amongst Red owners. -

Unfortunately PL mount is limiting because it was designed for super 35 .Many M42 lenses like Pentax won't fit and only some Soviet lenses fit as the maximum diameter of the rear part has to be less than 53 mm .the early helios 44-2 will fit but not the later 44-M ,44-M6 etc. Nikon F fits the larger LPL mount but not PL Canon FD can be converted to LPL but not PL Hopefully there is a LPL version coming as well. -

colour movie film in the 1960s was only ASA 50 so they used extra lighting out doors on sunny days !! This is on set Hitchcocks "The Birds " 1963 with two carbon arc lights in the back ground now Fijifilm make a colour film rated at 1600 ISO (5 more stops beyond 50 ISO) and full frame sensors are way beyond the limitations of 50 ISO so yes it is far easier now !
