Thanx a lot TheRenaissanceMan!  My settings on G6 is -5,-5,-2,-2. The picture is really very flat. I do not use any LUTs or Magic Bullets looks etc. in Sony Vegas, all is graded shot by shot manually. Firstly I decrase colors by "black and white" function then use Color Corector + saturation+gain+gamma+offset, after I play with RGB color curves. I also use the film grain background to make the picture more "organic".
The lenses I mostly use are Panasonic 25mm F1,4 then Panasonic 14mm F 2,5, for longer shots Canon FD 85mm F1,8 and also Practicar Pentacon 135mm F 2,8. It is very important to use correct ND, I use only fixed ND 8 and 4 and 12. As G6 and also my lenses are not stabilised it is somertimes hard to make proper shots when climbing the Tepuy or when wading through the swamp in the jungle

Wow! Awesome work, midloch! Can you share your camera settings and some info on how you graded this? And what lenses did you use?

I guess this confirms the old budget filmmaker addage of "buy something cheap and functional, master it completely, then go out and learn to not suck with it."

I do not think that G6 is old hat. It is still very capable camera. This adventure movie from Venezuela Ayuan Tepui was all shot on G6 (except of some GoPro shots):

Again you failed to read what I said. I said she didn't want used equipment listed.
I talked about the GH4, NX1 etc. I don't remember praising them particularly. In fact I said 4K is unnecessary. I don't think it's misrepresentative to say those cameras broke Canon's near-monopolising of hybrid video though. They did. Outside of a few forums like this Canons are the go-to cameras for cheap large sensor video. How do you see the current camera landscape?
And enough with the crap about rules. I came here asking for your opinion. I'm not looking for validation. I know the package I put together is good. I just thought I might get some sensible suggestions of other packages that fit the brief from intelligent, mature people.
How embarrassing. As english is my native language I can (unfortuneately) sail through life completely ignorant that other languages even exist
I just assumed it was Spanish because of the Venezuela thing ...
Look forward to seeing the subtitled version though. If you send me a link when it's done I'll try to include it in my next article on Desktop Docs: (matt at lintelfilm dot uk)

The only way to get a nikon g lens working on a zhyongi speedbooster is if you get the canon version and get a nikon g to canon adapter with an aperture lever.

glad you like it , with the speedbooster it is a f2 monster! the look full wide open is superb - thats how I use mine ,  stack your NDs to keep fully wide open outside

This is a trailer to my brand new movie from our expedition to Angel Fall in Venezuela. The story of the film is about making a children's dream to come true. When I was a child I loved books full of adventure and the most loved was an old komix describing a tour to mysterious tepui mountain.
This dream become reality for me a few months ago...
    Shot on Panasonic G6
    Lenses: Panasonic 25mm F 1,4 + Canon FD 50mm F 1,8
    Mic: RODE videomic PRO
ND filter: Hoya ND8 and ND4

This is a short trailer to my a brand new documentary movie about looking for yoga in India. I was used to shoot documentaries by very cheap camcoder but thanks to this forum lately I have switched to a DSLR world.
In my opinion it is possible to make some good shots by cheap camera like Panasonic G6 :-)

midloch reacted in Newbie here - Video on a few cameras I'm considering
I'm also a new dad and have been shooting a lot of my son (video and stills) with my Lumix G6 and Nikon D5300, and until a few months ago a Canon 600D/T3i.

Personally I wouldn't worry about stabilisation too much if you're looking at MFT cameras (and not needing professionally flawless results). Being able to hold an EVF up to your eye while shooting video keeps the camera pretty steady. In your situation, if I was wanting to shoot 50/50 stills video, I'd probably go for a G6 or a GX7 (the GM1 doesn't have an EVF). They are great at stills, just not *quite* as good as Nikon/Canon DSLRs. And the video is superb and easy to use compared to DSLR's. They are also small and very versatile, which for family stuff I find very useful.
Nikons are a pain to shoot video with. Canon video isn't very nice. I'd say if you don't KNOW you need pro-level stills, a Panasonic will keep you very happy for a long time.

Having said all of that, the Sony RX10 may be the best camera for you, but is a bit beyond the price bracket of the other stuff.

the G6 produces a very very sharp image better then my hacked Driftwood GH2 at 170mb/s

please take into consideration you are looking at highly compressed frootage on youtube/ vimeo

and they do not state what lenses they are using , a soft lens on a Red Epic will produce a soft image

I use Carl Zeiss lenses on my G6 and it is razar sharp and holds up well against Red Epic footage when in the edit suite

Thanks! I'd actually already seen some of your test shots when I was searching for stuff shot on the G6, but hadn't seen the final piece.

I should have a D5300 in the next couple of days and believe I'll be mostly satisfied with it for my needs, but I'm still intrigued by the G6. It's going for about $500US now, and from your video and other's I've seen, it might be worth getting in addition to the D5300 for no other reason than being able to play with a MFT camera with a speed booster or one of the knock offs. Has anyone here compared the knock-off speed boosters with the pricier Metabones one?

Your video looks excellent, and proof that I'd be plenty satisfied with the image a G6 can produce. Glad it was suggested to me by Matt, and thanks again for the sample!
