Hey just wondering if this is similar to an Iscorama lens in that it is a single focus lens? So I could set the focus on the taking lens to infinite and then just focus with the Isco?

As I previously said: this one you take it & you shoot. Right NOW. If you have a job to make, so to get paid & you need this thing right NOW, so to take the job & to get paid, what will you do? You will wait the end of the month (or maybe the next one? as there's no contract from Slr Magic for exact date of delivery), but lose the money? And after all, nobody forced you to buy it. That's how the market works: I have it, you want it, you take it or not. The rest is just to spend your time, if you haven't something better to do in your boring life. If I had the GH4 right now & put it on sale for €2000 (which means 1 month before all others), what's your problem after all? So, to finish with all this as my time is valuable: if you don't like, then you simply don't buy. That's all & so simple.

    Play nice guys

A need is something you have to have, something you can't do without. A good example is food. If you don't eat, you won't survive for long. Many people have gone days without eating, but they eventually ate a lot of food. You might not need a whole lot of food, but you do need to eat.

A want is something you would like to have. It is not absolutely necessary, but it would be a good thing to have. A good example is music. Now, some people might argue that music is a need because they think they can't do without it. But you don't need music to survive. You do need to eat.

One of the most basic concepts of economics.

I think you all know the answer, so stop arguing over the price, nobody is forcing you to buying it, what is your need?

Hello guys! I have already received the new Olympus 25mm f1.8 and I did a fast test with autofocus to test the compability of the lens with the BMPCC.

    Here´s the video.

I will do some other test soon.

Thank you all for the information shared in this forum, I´m learning a lot with you, I´m just an amateur video man.

Part 2! All the night parts were done using m42 russian glass, iscorama and a 5D3 shooting raw. Lighting was mainly practical with flames, a couple flashlights and one "Kick" led panel (from kickstarter).

we're currently moving towards an 8-episode first season, to be shot during May, using BMPCC and anamorphic lenses (Iscorama and Foton-A). :)

    Hi guys,

We just shot this video with the BMCC, Metabones Speedbooster, Nikon Lenses and Iscorama 54MC.
RAW files were developped in After Effects CS6 (with Camera Raw) to Prores444 2400/1350. Color grading was done in AE.

Please let us know what you think, we'd love to get some feedback.

I'm here researching what camera to buy for video's and came across the thread.

Mandyleigh is my wife. She recorded the album live in the studio in London, with the producer of Frank Zappa/Van Morrison etc and muso's from Frank Zappa/Van Morrison and Steeleye Span.

Personally, 'Let it Go' is my favourite song, though 'Winters Day' is a close second as I love early 70's rock.

Many of the songs are about her dealing with her suicidal depression that she had many years ago. I wrote 'Grey' about her (bring your razorblades for that one! :) ). Believe it or not but the dancey happy sounding 'Keep The Silence' was also about her depression (as she felt she couldn't speak about it to anyone and no-one wanted to hear how she felt... inc her own family).

Have fun if you use any song.

yannis.zach reacted to dahlfors in Tip: quick viewing of anamorphic footage in VLC
Since I don't always want to fire up my videos in an editing program when I do some quick viewings of the shots, here's how to use VLC for viewing footage in different aspect ratios.

On VLC in Windows it is easy:
    - go to Preferences -> All -> Video and you'll find a field where you can enter custom aspect ratios, separated by commas. Keep in mind that VLC only wants whole numbers without decimals, so to get 2.66:1 and 3.55:1 ratios, you would type in: 266:1,355:100

On VLC in Mac OS X:
    - There isn't unfortunately not anywhere to input this in the application interface, and I just spent some time figuring this out and I'm sharing the howto for you guys, since I couldn't find this information anywhere else on the net!

    1) Locate the VLC preferences file: ~/Library/Preferences/org.videolan.vlc/vlcrc

Note: ~ equals your home folder for your user, e.g. /Users/myusername. The preferences file is created the first time you run VLC, like Caleb mentions further down in this forum thread. You might want to make a copy of this file before you edit it, just in case...

    2) Look for the line that says (lines marked with a # character in front are comments that are ignored by VLC):

    # Custom aspect ratios list (string)
    #custom-aspect-ratios=

After that, just add a line that says:

    custom-aspect-ratios=266:100,300:100,355:100

Then you will get the custom aspect ratios 266:100, 300:100 and 355:100 (2.66:1, 3:1, 3.55:1) to choose from in the VLC interface (Video -> Aspect ratio in the menu). Again, keep in mind that VLC won't accept decimals like 2.35:1 for custom aspect ratios. They must be entered like 235:100.

If you can find a use for garage-punk, my band, The Angel Sluts, would be down for this.  We have one video already.  If you like a more post-punky sound, The Switchblade Kid would probably be okay with it (singer of my band is the frontman for that band is always looking for more exposure) although he's already made videos for a lot of his material.

I would like to give my platform to up and coming musicians around the world to showcase their music through my cinematography to an audience of around 250,000 people per month. This is the EOSHD Music Challenge.
Readers act as DJ - they can pick music from up and coming singers and bands, with suggestions that might suit the mood of my cinematography and future camera tests.
Cinematic music is really important to me but I haven't been satisfied with The Music Bed or similar resources so far.
    How does the challenge work?
    1. Suggest a band or musician on this thread. They have to be up and coming not signed to a major label or already huge.
    2. I investigate and do the contacting of those which I like and credit you for the find!
    3. If they agree to let me use their music, they will find a new audience through my blog and hopefully sell some tracks on iTunes from a link on EOSHD. You will be designated as the discoverer of talent and winner of the challenge.
    4. You can have fun with this challenge and play DJ - use your taste to select the right standard of music to fit EOSHD and in turn you might discover new music yourself which you really enjoy listening to.
    5. My cinematography at EOSHD is purely an artistic endeavour and experimental, non commercial and does not make any money but for all videos featuring unsigned acts I will consider enabling the Vimeo Tip Jar and sharing the proceeds with the musician 50:50!
This is a new idea and it will start off as a trial. If it works then great! If not then we will swap things around until it does, because I am determined to find new music and up and coming artists.
Good soundtracks are really important for filmmakers and I believe in finding new talent. Perhaps you know some artists yourself? Perhaps you are one?

The image from this lens can be sexy if you're stopped down enough (usually 5.6 is where it comes good), I've never götten (heh) low light out of it, since you have to be stopped down so far and the glass itself sucks up some light.

I was running around with it yesterday and threw this together, very shaky (not as good as Hugo's), but you can get the gist of what it's capable of.

    Here's my video to share.
Had some trouble nailing focus shooting T2.8 on some crap BMPC LCD screen, but here you go!

    EXPERIENCE
I enjoyed using this. This is a final production prototype that I am testing. What makes it great is that the setup was really light, pretty well-built, and the learning curve is pretty easy. It can resolve sharp images, especially with the achromats. On the small LCD of the pocket camera though, getting focus can be a crapshoot. Focus peaking does not always work and I had to guess a lot. I did have to tell Ying to slow down a couple times because there was no way I could pull focus, especially on a fairly fast aperture of T2.8 and pretty much 100mm equivalent lens. Really should have a large monitor. But then it's not really a run and gun lens like I was using here though. I don't feel like anamorphic in general is normally for documentary style work. Neither is the pocket camera. Hope this helps you.

Just throwing out there that a sensor might be capable, but the rest of the internal components might not be able to handle it. I'm sure you could overclock a lot of cameras to get 4K recording, but the thing will burst into flames after a few moments. :P

The Panasonic 4K capable sensor... rumour has it that this is present in the GX7, GM1 and Olympus OM-D E-M1 not just the 4K GH4. But the key thing is giving it enough processing power, faster SD card slot, cooler readout circuitry and avoiding other heat issues, plus a few more things I don't know of because I'm not a camera engineer!

So firmware updates for 4K are probably out on the other cameras despite the powerful sensor.
Well done Panasonic for making such a great follow up to their GH2 sensor and avoiding a Sony chip.
