Today I was shooting in the vineyard with GH5 and I took the old pocket, and I have to admit bmpcc surprised me again with better color and at least +2 feet of dynamic range extra.?

+2 extra feet of dynamic range is impressive! :)

How hard can it be to at least make a small effort to try to match the shots from the two cameras? The one on the bottom is from the video, the one on the top a two-second color correction. In the video, I'd almost say they tried their hardest to make the GH5 look ghastly. No wonder what they saw were thin skin tones with little to no gradation. Even checking the vector scope, it's plain to see that their grade is far too magenta.

@Yannick Willox The grade is pretty awful. I've never seen such bad skin tones with the GH5 in all my life.

This seems like quite an honest review. All the cons are mentioned, and then you have the image quality & price point.

We already saw this garbage video, which, as @Deadcode rightfully observes, is incompetent and clearly favors the P4K (though the grading of both sucks ass).

The earliest initial impression I had of the EOS R was the rolling shutter. The earliest impressions I had of the Z7 was that it was nicer than my Sony A7R III in the hand, and in terms of the image, and the rolling shutter didn't stand out as anything abnormal, unlike on the EOS R. It just wasn't an issue for me. Ditto on the D850. It wasn't immediately obvious from the get go, the minute I opened the box.

So we're 10 minutes into Kai's video, out of 13 minutes and yes it seems there's a 2 second mention. So I should probably give him the benefit of the doubt. But when I watched it the first time just after release as a subscriber to his channel, I am pretty sure it wasn't in. There are such a thing as ninja edits and re-uploads. But let's be clear, I've nothing personal with Kai, he could be a nice guy, but he doesn't help our cause as customers - he doesn't give the problem any gravitas. He's not even a proper reviewer. He's an entertainer. He turns it into a positive in those few seconds of a mention, which are just soft pawing out claims to the effect of the 1080p "has an advantage" because it has less rolling shutter than 4K, 'just like that wonderful best selling 5D IV you all bought'. That's how it comes across to me. It may technically be a 'mention of rolling shutter' but it's not a mention in the sense I meant it in my article - a mention of just how BAD the rolling shutter is on this camera. He just sweeps it under the rug in less than 5 seconds in a 13 minute video and doesn't really criticise it. That's the *whole point* I was making in the article - none of them mentioned the rolling shutter in terms of it being amongst the worst on the market in 2018 and immediately OBVIOUS straight out of the box in 4K.

So whilst @jonpais is calling EOSHD "fake news" and telling me how to run the site, perhaps he should realise one thing. I am a bit disappointed by his remarks. All the squabbling on the forums over the past few months from him and the Sony fanboyism in every subject, treating some threads like his own private inbox for chats and arguments, all leave a bitter taste for me because he's a long-time member. He seems to have gone from productive posting in the early days of the forum about Panasonic, up through being rewarded by being promoted to a mod, back down to being a non-mod due to bad behaviour, and now he's cruising for a bruising or even a ban. I just find that incredibly self destructive.

I see what you did just there. Kai ‘ninja-edited’ his video the moment after you finished watching it - a video uploaded over a month ago, with some half-dozen contemporaneous comments about the awful rolling shutter!

Are we also to believe that Kai added those half-dozen remarks in the comments section of his video just seconds after you hastily skipped through it?

Let's get real, Andrew - do you really expect us to believe that Kai edited his review just because of your stinking blog?

What gives you the divine authority to decide for each and every living human being which shortcomings are the least forgivable anyhow? Your shitty YouTube channel?

That helps a little, but I think it's the Peaking algorithm itself.

I discussed this at length about this a few months ago, and came to the same conclusion. Because even with my [insert brand here] ?, which has a lower resolution screen, peaking is easier for me to see.

    In their conclusion, Slashcam writes:

The best picture quality is obtained by 4K-Filmer with the Z7 with external 4K-DX recording, which, however, is accompanied by a crop factor of 1.69. This is now hardly less than the much criticized 4K crop factor the Canon EOS R, which is at 1.75.

In full succeed the better shots at full sensor area in FX mode. Here also up to 60fps are possible. Who wants to use up to 120fps in full, comes to the DX modes in the Z7 not around. Even the lower Rolling shutter speaks for the DX modes.

The Color Science of the new Nikon Z7 may be tamed or de-digitized by some. Basically, the camera is still very pleasant, similar-looking color impressions possible.

In low light already sets the Z7 impressive behavior to the day, which is likely to be topped by the upcoming Z6. And that brings us to a fundamental "problem":

Although Nikon does so much right on the Z7, the high-resolution sensor makes little sense for users who are primarily filmmakers. The Z6 is likely to be the really exciting model for filmmakers in this regard, as this first quality impression of the Z7 already impressively suggests.

It's called a MeFoto travel tripod... Surprisingly sturdy for the size. Though the wing will be on a bigger Manfrotto at weddings.

I’ve got the same tripod. Really a nice lightweight one to work with.

How would you compare them if both had IBIS (x-h1) and they cost similar (buying used)?

    Im thinking about the 16-55.

    I can't exaggerate - the 16-55mm f/2.8 is a gorgeous lens.

But it is huge and heavy and it costs a bunch new in the States.

If you can find it used for a good price, I guarantee you won't be disappointed in the optical quality.

I haven't bought the Tamron yet, just seen comparisons and AF tests at various websites, but it looks impressive too.

If build quality is your thing, or if you need those extra millimeters, the Fuji will kill the Tamron for sure.

I'd also like to say sorry to you too, Mattias. I know we've had our differences, but I hope no hard feelings.

    We're both pretty opinionated!

The point was that a camera with no stab at all (IS or IBIS) on a gimbal shows vibrations. It's better to have IS or IBIS on a gimbal. This is very well known and proved even by the video just sent.

If you're going to go with a universal zoom on a gimbal, I'd choose the a7 III + Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 over the Fuji + 16-55mm f/2.8. The Tamron is $800.00 vs. $1,000.00 for the Fuji, is 100 grams lighter and the a7 III has in-body stabilization.

  10. The Sony FE 85mm f/1.8 has lovely contrast, nice rendering of out-of-focus areas and is super small and lightweight, making it an outstanding choice for gimbal work.

Sony skin tones are so much easier to work with than Panasonic's. I hardly need to grade the clips at all.
